Formula Fed baby suffering terribly with wind, any advice?

Hi

I have posted before about my formula fed dd who suffers terribly with wind. I got some great advice and tried a couple of things but she is now 10 wks old and the problem is ongoing.

She has been awake from 2.30am last night where she had a 5 ounce bottle then has not gone back over as she has been writhing around since then pumping.

Every day she wakes us up straining to pump then letting out ginormous manly farts. There's not just one, it goes on for hours.

Anyone that holds her comments on her pumping all the time. My dm has had 5 dc and numerous dgc and has never come across it before.

So far we have tried:
Baby massage - hasn't done anything but she does enjoy it
Cycling her legs - helps release the farts occasionally
Infacol - this has definitely helped with the colic as i have tried to cut her down the last few days and she has gotten worse.
Colactase - this seemed to make the biggest difference in that she now enjoys a bottle and seemed to reduce the farting episodes slightly but nothing significant
Gaviscon - did nothing for dd
Cows milk allergy formula - did nothing for dd (although admittedly i didn't try it for long).

So now i want to change formula. She is on cow and gate first stage. I don't know which to move to though and admittedly dont want to keep chopping and changing.

I have heard good things about Hipp Organic and also comfort milk. Which one do i choose?

Fwiw the health visitors suggested baby massage and gp cows milk allergy both of which haven't helped. I also tried to BF dd but she wouldn't latch.

It's so sad seeing her uncomfortable.

Hi Rarfy, how did you get on now it’s been a year down the line. Reading your thread and my baby is going through the same thing.
My journey has been started on hipp from birth, very windy and unsettled baby. Used at the time cheap Asda standard neck bottles.
Then advised by hv to try comfort milk so tried this with mam bottles. Baby been on this for 3+ weeks now.
Took baby to docs as wind horrendous and baby unsettled 90% of the time and gp prescribed gaviscon. I didn’t pick this up as from my first born I remember being given this and her being constipated so did not try this.
Went to see a paediatrician at my local hospital and they prescribed omeprazole. Had been given him this for just under a week and saw no difference. It was painful giving him this (liquid form ) and so after discussion with hv stopped giving him this.
Hv gave me prescription (after discussion with gp) fir aptimil Pepti 1. This will be day 2 on it.

Symptoms my son has is excessive wind where he is raising legs, red in face, pumping excessively, can feel bubbles in side , groaning and grunting (worse at 3am till 7am/ lies in crib groaning and writhing around), and classic colic where he is unsettled between 6.30pm ish till 12am. He also has congestion to his nose which initially I thought he caught a cold but has not gone away and that was 3 weeks ago

My son is currently 7 weeks.

@Rarfy...I could have written this about my DD who is now 10 weeks old. I know this is an old post, did changing the formula help? Did you ever have any further intolerances diagnosed?

Just wanted to post as I came here looking for an answer as my baby is suffering from the same symptoms and I think I’ve found an answer. Please see below link - I have just bought lactose free formula and can’t wait to see if it helps!

Hello ,
My baby is 2 months old and she doesn't nap much at all!. She isn't to bad at night , she starts moving lots so I know she needs a feed then she goes back to sleep no problem but during the day she reallybfinds it hard. She doesn't even get relaxed while breastfeeidng. She hates the car so that's no an option, also doesn't like the pram and she use to sleep a lot in baby carrier but lately she is also not a fan so she really doesn't leva me a lot of options. I am so tired of trying and not sure what else to do !! Help !

Its awedul to listencto isnt it.

I have found that using the kendamill formula is really helpful. It's not for colic or allergy specificall but does seem to help loads. i also put a small amount of gripe water directly into each bottle, plus a drop of a prebiotic (this was more for reflux, but just mentioning it anyway). Has easily halved the writhing for him, he seems to be able to wind himself so much easier.

The other thing, and this defiantly isn't midwife approved, please don't judge, is to lay him on his side. Obviously I never leave him unattended like this, but calms him down within about 20 seconds, shorty followed by a massive fart. Left side seems best. I only need to do it when he is struggling to settle and for a minute or two whist he gets sorted.

Hopefully you find something that works.
