Banking? Medicine isn’t that well paid compared to corporate law.

Catscratchclub · 19/03/2019 18:29

Following so I can retrain and live a life of luxury

Sales can be lucrative if you are good at it.

OutwithMyRemit · 19/03/2019 18:30

The best paid people I know work as...
Oil rig employees
Computer programmers
Engineers

FrenchyQ · 19/03/2019 18:31

Jobs in the tech industry

lurker99999 · 19/03/2019 18:33

Most jobs on the oil riggs

MeAgainAgain · 19/03/2019 18:53

actuary

in terms of it being relatively normal / accessible ie not "ceo of top company" or "internationally renowned lion tamer" etc

MeAgainAgain · 19/03/2019 18:53

MeAgainAgain · 19/03/2019 18:54

flowerycurtain · 19/03/2019 18:55

I've always wondered what an Actuary is.

Best paid people I know are accountants,
Lawyers and doctors.

tilder · 19/03/2019 18:56

Oil related. You dont need to be on the rigs.

SouthernComforts · 19/03/2019 18:59

MeAgain - I was really hoping you'd suggest proof reading next Grin

smithyssister · 19/03/2019 19:00

What do you consider well paid?

QuitMoaning · 19/03/2019 19:01

I've always wondered what an Actuary is.
I would explain but one of us will fall asleep with boredom half way through 😂

(I am not an actuary but do something similar and work with them, some of them are really nice and can be good fun)

HeyMicky · 19/03/2019 19:03

DH is a strategic planner and now an agency CSO. Very good pay

High-level marketeers with big international corporations also pay pretty well.

SwimmingKaren · 19/03/2019 19:05

Strangely I know several very rich builders but they’ve got their own companies and presumably made money from land or property or similar.

mummyofdaughters · 19/03/2019 19:09

Successful entrepreneurs. The wealthiest people I know started their own company and are rolling in multi-millions.

Roomchanging · 19/03/2019 19:10

The dermatologist I saw privately yesterday. £250 for the consultation and another £200 for the (tiny) procedure she did. I was in and out in less than 15 minutes. She’s making £1800/hr. and she only works school hours!!!

MeAgainAgain · 19/03/2019 19:20

Dictionary says
"a person who compiles and analyses statistics and uses them to calculate insurance risks and premiums."

They do data
Lots of crunching numbers in excel
coming up with premium rates and other stuff too
Modelling (trying to predict what will happen in various situations)
loads of other stuff probs

I am not one but I know a lot
As a breed they are down to earth, friendly, and enjoy a drink (big generalisations obviously!)
Actuaries who are also good communicators (as in can give good presentation to large groups / be put in front of clients etc) can really earn
But ones who just do the number crunching earn well too. I mean, I think they earn well :)
General insurance pays better than life & health, if you are looking for a new career!

babysharkah · 19/03/2019 19:25

Town planners
Surveyors
Project managers

And whatever happens with AI and technology people will always need somewhere to live so worth investing in imo.

bebeboeuf · 19/03/2019 19:26

Quantity Surveyor

Lardlizard · 19/03/2019 21:33

Engineer ? I didn’t think they were particular well paid? Tbh I think finance is probably going to be the easiest route to go down in term of pay and hours etc

OP posts:
OutwithMyRemit · 19/03/2019 22:11

Tbf the engineer I know works in the oil industry - that's probably why it's well paid.

And my definition of well paid starts at £50k/year, which by mumsnet standards probably isn't high ;)
