I want chocolate but I also want to be thin.

Went for a run for the first time I forever this morning. Have eaten well all day so far.

Now I want chocolate. A bar of. Preferably dipped in hot chocolate too.

But I so don’t want another summer of feeling uncomfortable in everything. Or to be embarrassed walking around in swimwear on holiday.

How do you get through cravings?? I could have a mint tea I guess. And I have a banana on my desk. But I really want chocolate too....

When losing the baby weight last time, I used to have one of those options hot chocolate, low calorie crap I’m sure but it was enough to bide my cravings. Main thing is not to be hungry so make sure you are eating a good breakfast, lunch & dinner. Drink lots of water too, I found the more dehydrated I was the more I wanted to snack.

Happyspud · 19/03/2019 12:25

It’s just chocolate. Let it go. And stop going on about food. It’s just food. You’re giving it more value than it merits. You won’t be or feel better for having eaten anything in particular. So just have food when you need it and stop making it into some sort of fantasy thing.

......does that help at all😅

AmIBU123 · 19/03/2019 12:28

I read a quote the other day that rather than looking at it as depriving yourself, you are actually doing what you really want, I.e. junk food is something you want. But resisting the junk is what you really want. Make sense?

Ploppymoodypants · 19/03/2019 12:29

Me too!
Only thing that works for me is to cut sugar completely. 3 days of mad cravings that feel like hunger and a fuzzy head. Then feel great, so much energy. And can also really trust the difference between feeling hungry and just a sugar craving.

I lost loads of weight too.

It’s so tricky to stick to though as sugar is in nearly everything these days. It’s basically meat, eggs, fish, veg and salad.

SillyLittleBiscuit · 19/03/2019 12:30

I'm in the same place as you @6monthsin, although went for first run yesterday. I agree with @happyspud - need to try and stop thinking about food as good or bad etc .. but cleaning teeth might help right now. Good luck.

Palominoo · 19/03/2019 12:30

I've mIntained my figure all my life and I eat what I want. If I feel I've over indulged one day I cut back on the amount the next day.

I eat by portion control not the type of food.

CoraPirbright · 19/03/2019 12:31

I like that Happyspud. Kind of like a diet version of "he's just not that into you". Good advice delivered rather bluntly!!

I quite like Kate Moss mantra "nothing tastes as good as thin feels".

Rollercoaster1920 · 19/03/2019 12:32

Thank you for this post. I was about to crack, but I'll be good instead! I want to fit in my clothes more than I want to comfort eat!

Soberloner · 19/03/2019 12:32

Well if I want the chocolate I eat it. Although I do want to be slim too.
Typical day for me is
Breakfast - skip or meal replacement shake
Snack - skip or crackers or toast
Lunch - usually sandwich, sometimes leftovers
Snack - crisps or chocolate and fruit
Dinner - whatever the hell I like just make a smaller portion than usual.
And I prob drink up to 4/teas a day too along with water and the occasional had t chocolate

Happyspud · 19/03/2019 12:34

May I just add that being skinny is not a great goal. Being happy and healthy is. So lose weight to save your knees, lungs and digestive system. But don’t drag your body where it doesn’t need to be for the sake of image.

Exhaustedx · 19/03/2019 12:49

I lost weight by not changing the amount at ALL that I ate.
Previously I would for example have a day like this
Breakfast coffee water
Mid morn snack and drink
Lunch
Mid aft snack
Dinner
Treat in evening cake or chocolate

I literally just took the snacks and ate them immediately after lunch or dinner and kept to at least 4 hours between meals and I had to actually feel hungry before eating and I dropped kids of weight

Exhaustedx · 19/03/2019 12:49

Loads not kids

MissMogwai · 19/03/2019 13:00

Me too. I don't know why I can't eat chips and chocolates and drink gin and be thin. Not fair is it.

I want to lose 2 stone for my wedding next year. I just keep losing the same 8lbs and putting it back on.

So nothing helpful to add but I empathise 😂

Orangecake123 · 19/03/2019 13:12

When I'm dieting I allow myself to still have things like donuts, pizza and chocolate and I've lost 32lbs previously. I keep track of my calories on my fitness pal though. For me a little bit every now and then is okay. Other strict diets usually don't last very long because they're not sustainable in the long term. Perhaps buy mini sized bars instead?

goose1964 · 19/03/2019 13:27

Dark chocolate, very dark, it is really hard to eat more than a square or two.

StormTreader · 19/03/2019 13:30

"I quite like Kate Moss mantra "nothing tastes as good as thin feels"."

Only someone who has never had Black Forest Gateaux could even think such a thing Grin

Mominatrix · 19/03/2019 13:35

I am thin and I eat chocolate (and crisps, ice cream, cake, biscuits). Key is portion control.

feelingverylazytoday · 19/03/2019 14:48

I've lost a lot of weight, and I still eat chocolate and other treats. I just make sure they're not in the house. I don't buy multipacks of anything, and I don't buy the big family sized bars. If I really want a bar of chocolate I walk to the shop and buy one - a standard size bar - and then I take it home and eat it. Same thing with cakes - Greggs and places like Lidl sell individual cakes so I buy them from there.
I still pig out on the odd packet of biscuits though, so I very rarely buy them.

feelingverylazytoday · 19/03/2019 14:51

PS OP, Being 'thin' (or a healthy weight and size) feels fucking fantastic, and is well worth every bit of chocolate you didn't eat.

Ribbonsonabox · 19/03/2019 14:55

I've lost a stone in 3 weeks and I've still eaten some chocolate! (Loosing baby weight to get back in my old clothes) Its not the chocolate itself which is a problem. If you eat a couple of squares of chocolate it's going to be fine..... if you eat a whole sharer bar of dairy milk to yourself it's not gonna be great.
I dont think you should forbid any foods because it makes you crave them more and then swing into binge eating them.

pusspuss9 · 19/03/2019 14:55

First of all it's OK to be hungry.

Secondly. break your chocolate into squares and freeze it. If you have the urge, take one frozen square out of the freezer and let it melt slowly in your mouth.

pusspuss9 · 19/03/2019 14:56

Frozen grapes are nice as well. just take one out of the freezer and you have your sweet kick.

Ribbonsonabox · 19/03/2019 14:57

And I agree with pp. Dont keep 'treats' in the house unless I've bought something to eat that evening.... i dont keep a stock or anything. If i want some chocolate or a cake then i go out and buy it for that day....
Otherwise you know you've got a cupboard full of crap you could just much through when it gets dark lol... and that ends badly.

RamblinRosie · 20/03/2019 03:03

A square or two of dark chocolate should satisfy the craving, with relatively few calories.

Keep away from the cheap sweet milky muck, that’ll just increase the craving.

chickensub · 20/03/2019 03:24

Drink the tea. Step away from the banana though, which is high in sugar.
