He loves outdoors but we have a tiny garden and live on a main road. He has a bike and a scooter.
He likes craft- dm is getting him craft stuff at my suggestion.
He likes science but has hotwires, a science kit, telescope and a microscope.
He likes nature- no ideas though!
He likes reading- any suggestions? He likes Roald Dahl, Colin Dann, Dick King Smith, doesn’t like David Walliams.
Thought of a kindle but suspect his younger brother would break it.
Any ideas?

Science magazine subscription? I know there is one for kids that I’ve seen recommended on mn but I can’t think of it’s name.

Do you have any RSPB reserves near you? They offer a kids membership which is £20 something a year you usually get a joining gift and a quarterly magazine plus the member gets free entry and parking plus can borrow activity backpack and do activities such as pond dipping free. Our local one was £5 per car but since ds was a member we all got in free.

Howmanysleepstilchristmas · 17/03/2019 14:54

It’s impossible to keep his brother away from anything- they share a room!

We have family rspb membership otherwise that would have worked.

Zoo keeper for the day?

PotolBabu · 17/03/2019 14:59

DS who is 7 is really enjoying reading the Jack Stalwart books.
He enjoys a nice stationery set.
He also got some cooperative games like Engineering Ants and Mole Rats in Space.

Pascha · 17/03/2019 14:59

How about a metal detector and fossil finding kit?

AiryFairy1 · 17/03/2019 15:00

For books have you tried the Bear Gryll’s Adventure series? Oliver Moon is another fav in our house!
Would he like an experience - like a day of horse-riding, something in a forest nearby like go ape? Rock climbing?
A butterfly life cycle hatching kit (you get the caterpillars and a net thing)

QueenMabby · 17/03/2019 15:00

Nat Geo Kids subscription? Aquarellum?

Catscratchclub · 17/03/2019 15:01

Ds is 7 this weekend. He’s got Lego, switch game and craft stuff. He really wanted a Messi football top as well which my mums going to get him.

Catscratchclub · 17/03/2019 15:02

Ds loves the Dog man books too! I’d forgot I got him those - and ‘fing’ And the creakers are good as well if he hasn’t already read them.

Cheerybigbottom · 17/03/2019 15:04

Cheerybigbottom · 17/03/2019 15:06

Yes he dog man books too! Same author as captain underpants and my ds noticed that when leafing through them in the shop, he liked them before he realised the connection

SusieFlo · 17/03/2019 15:06

I have a nature-loving son and if we had more space I'd love to get him some sort of nice cabinet or storage unit for his nature finds. Currently we make do with a mish-mash of things, including a set of tiny wooden drawers from the The Works to keep small shells, pebbles and things like gemstones and fossils; a Nature Lovers' Scrap Book which has blank pages for pasting in interesting feathers, grasses and dried leaves and a basket with a lid where he currently keeps miscellaneous feathers and pine cones and so on.

I once saw an original cabinet from the Natural History Museum on sale on eBay but had neither the space nor funds to bid for it!

whiteroseredrose · 17/03/2019 15:07

Spy Kit? You can get glasses that help you see behind you and all kind of stuff on Amazon.

AppleDragon · 17/03/2019 15:09

Snap circuits? He might enjoy the treehouse series of books

Strawberry2017 · 17/03/2019 15:09

Have you asked him what the would like?

GetSchwifty · 17/03/2019 15:15

Origami kit
Spirograph
Annual pass to an aquarium/farm/museum

My science loving son loves his knowledge encyclopaedia.

CakeNinja · 17/03/2019 15:17

My ds is 7 and still loves toys. He spends ages with action figures, setting them and acting out little scenes with them. He got some minecraft ones for his birthday and some mario ones. Also a mario remote control car with ‘drift’ wheels. Then a couple of games for his switch, some minecraft paper craft stuff to make all sorts of blocks and characters with.
We also got him an extension pack for his marble run, a batcave and batmobile.
Some Lego sets including brick heads which he enjoyed making, a few guardians of the galaxy figures, and big burger cushion from Typo. Some of that stuff was actually also for Christmas as he has a birthday close to it and I don’t remember which each thing was for!

Peabody25 · 17/03/2019 16:06

DS is only five but he sounds very similar and these are things we've considered when older!

Lego boost - programmable robot
Galt or horrible science kits
National science museum toys

Brightminds and Wicked uncle normally have some good, unusual toys, and you can search by age I think

Howmanysleepstilchristmas · 17/03/2019 17:51

Yes, I’ve asked... craft (already suggested to small), nerf gun (dd has already bought him one), books, surprises! Not much to go on for me and his brothers
