He loves outdoors but we have a tiny garden and live on a main road. He has a bike and a scooter.
He likes craft- dm is getting him craft stuff at my suggestion.
He likes science but has hotwires, a science kit, telescope and a microscope.
He likes nature- no ideas though!
He likes reading- any suggestions? He likes Roald Dahl, Colin Dann, Dick King Smith, doesn’t like David Walliams.
Thought of a kindle but suspect his younger brother would break it.
Any ideas?

The Weekly Junior magazine is good, full of news. Subscription for something like that?

Magnatiles / Playmag they are good for building etc and they are safe for all ages. I've had children of all ages gravitate towards them in our house.

A wormery! DS loves tending it and feeding them our leftovers. Then he uses the fertiliser to grow plants in our tiny garden (he has pots and is growing tomatoes, strawberries, chillies etc from seed)

Cozmo the robot is a massive hit here (two boys age 9 and 6, plus all their friends!)

Gravitrax

Aquaviewer (like a telescope for looking in rock pools, ponds etc)

Window mounted bird feeder

Lego

Usborne ultimate maze book

I would second Whizz Pop Bang magazine.

Marble Run. Both our kids have been playing with it all weekend.

Maybe something like some clues he has to follow to end up with tickets (could make some?) for a day out to a science museum, space centre or techniquest? Potentially just you and him, some 1 on 1 time?

The kids version of the Kindle comes with some sort of no quibble guarantee in case it gets broken. Obviously you would want to look into the details, but might make it possible?

@justonemorepancake thanks! Your wormery suggestion was inspired (though I’ve actually gone for an ant farm as I figured there’d be more activity). Am going to look into some book recommendations too...

Not read them myself but a friend recently recommended Beast Quest for 6-7year olds. There’s a whole series of them.
