Does anyone get milk delivered?

I see one of our neighbours use milk and more. I quite like the idea of having milk delivered and cutting down on our plastic so just had a look at their website. It’s bloody expensive! Over 3 times the price of supermarket milk. I might still consider it if it was a better deal for the farmers but I’m not sure that’s the case. Does anyone know? The convenience factor isn’t a major factor as we currently have Ocado weekly and I walk past a small supermarket on the school run 4 times a day.

I was prepared to pay through the nose for daily deliveries and a lovely milkman.

I gave up when I moved to an area with only three deliveries a week.

Redglitter · 15/03/2019 18:02

I get 2 litres twice a week. It's 50p more than the milk in Tesco but definitely worth it

FusionChefGeoff · 15/03/2019 18:04

I figured that the amount I save on the extras that would always creep into my basket when popping in to buy milk make up for the extra cost!

Maryann1975 · 15/03/2019 18:09

Our milk man comes three times a week. It is more expensive and I do also have to buy a 4 Pinter of milk from Tesco once a week, but sometimes when we run out of milk at bedtime, it’s great knowing more will be on the doorstep before I get out of bed.

PinkHeart5914 · 15/03/2019 18:09

No but I buy milk from the village shop only and that’s delivered to them via a milkman/woman. I like it as it’s in glass bottles which are easier to recycle than plastic bottles, but yes it does cost more than 4 pints for £1 in the supermarket!

I think Morrison’s do milk that’s a few pence more expensive but it’s apparently (well it says on the bottle) it’s a better deal for farmers

Karlkennedyslovechild · 15/03/2019 18:10

But it’s SO much more expensive. I pay £1.09 for 4 pints whereas M&M are 78p per pint!

I get deliveries from Milk&More when I’ve forgotten to get some. It’s always on the doorstep before 7am and they often have offers on Cravendale.
Kids love the big boxes of biscuits for £3 too.

Howzaboutye · 15/03/2019 18:12

It's 3 times nicer milk though!

Can get non homogenised milk, and load of other groceries too.

The lack of plastic is worth it

elvislives2012 · 15/03/2019 18:14

I think it's more ethical in a lot of ways not least with the glass instead of plastic. I don't think it's right that milk should be so cheap

Whatdoyouknowwhenyouknownowt · 15/03/2019 18:15

I went looking for a milkman when I had a particularly bad smell of polymer (well, free monomer) off the top of a plastic container.

I assume they test them but I could definitely smell chemicals and I used to work in the industry.

Twice a week, no problems so far and much nicer all round.

WellErrr · 15/03/2019 18:17

Yes I do, in glass bottles. It works out about £3 a week more expensive, which I don’t mind AT ALL.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 15/03/2019 18:17

I used to. Loved the glass bottle. Not so much plastic in the recycling bin etc.

But our milk and more man delivered at midnight so the milk was warm in the morning and it went off very quickly.

In the summer I had a bottle which went brown and curdled overnight.

It put me off I’m afraid.

IsabelleSE19 · 15/03/2019 18:17

Yes, we use Milk and More. I've been pretty happy with it, although it is pricier. It's an easy way of cutting down on plastic, and the milkman has never once woken us up - he must be stealthy like a ninja!

DobbyTheHouseElk · 15/03/2019 18:19

I do have a local farm that sells “raw” milk. I’m tempted with it. I grew up with unpasteurised milk, and was ok. But it was a single jersey cow. I think there’s a greater risk with a herd.

ForalltheSaints · 15/03/2019 18:24

My mum does, and retained doing so given her health means she does not drive.

Meet0nTheledge · 15/03/2019 18:28

Yes, but we have to put a cold box out in summer as ours comes just after midnight too. This timing means it sometimes
get stolen too. Also, although the website is pretty good, if you need to contact M&M the only options are phone (long hold time) or write a letter, which is really irritating.

AnneElliott · 15/03/2019 18:29

I have milk delivered - I love it. I never run out now and don't have to lug big bottles back from the supermarket.

CostanzaG · 15/03/2019 18:32

Yes....love our milkman! He's never missed a delivery - even when the village was cut off during the beast from the east! We also get eggs delivered.
Yes it's more expensive but worth it.

Redwinestillfine · 15/03/2019 18:34

Yes. Absolutely worth it. I save a fortune by not popping extra stuff in my basket every time I ' just pop out for milk'. You can change order online until 9pm the night before, pause it when you're away, and it's just really easy. Also supporting local farmers.

ColeHawlins · 15/03/2019 18:35

This thread is changing my mind back.

iwantavuvezela · 15/03/2019 18:35

Yes, I do, same reasons as others, in bottles, to cut down on plastic and I hope to pay a fair price for milk to farmers

DaedricLordSlayer · 15/03/2019 18:36

I tried a new start up milkman who worked with local farmers, the milk was lovely! it was quite a bit more but it felt right supporting local businesses. Unfortunately the milkman was a posh entrepreneur who didn't really think through his business plan and the hard work and early starts his business would need, first few weeks were great, then he started missing days, would turn up up at odd times for payment, then missed 4 days in a row, delivered once after that then didn't come again. He turned up for his money 2 months laterConfused I told him to jog on.

ValleyoftheHorses · 15/03/2019 18:38

Yes, 3 times a week in glass bottles. Partly for the environment but also it is local milk so hoping a safer supply in case Brexit causes problems. It is more expensive but not hugely.

meepmoop · 15/03/2019 18:39

We do and have for years. It saves me popping to the shop for milk and then buying £20 worth of stuff I don't need.
We use a local milk man and get eggs and butter as well.

thenightsky · 15/03/2019 18:39

I used to. Had to finally give it up when I got sick of the behaviour of the milkman.

He started turning up earlier and earlier and last (very hot) summer, my milk had turned to cheese on the doorstep. It reached the point where he was delivering as I was going to bed.

Before that though, he was coming at 2am or 3am, loud rock music blasting out, screeched onto the gravel right under my window and hitting the brakes so hard he'd drift the bloody van!
