What small changes have you made to improve your physical and emotional wellbeing?

I'm overweight, drink too much and don't eat properly during the day so end up snacking at night.

I work full time, but erratic hours and being a very routine person I find it difficult to achieve things regularly. I also waste a lot of my free time through procrastination and lack of motivation.

So I'm looking to make small changes to improve my physical and emotional wellbeing.

I plan to start walking more, and looking forward to the weather improving. I'm also trying to get more organised with healthy food to take to work. I am also going to buy myself a bunch of flowers each week and try to read more.

What little changes have you made?

I do a form of yoga called DDPYOGA. It uses high cardio but with no impact to joints etc. I do it from home on the DDPY Now app or you can buy the DVDs from the USA.

littlebillie · 23/03/2019 23:59

Drifting slowly from FB, organising my email so I'm only reading what is useful rather than click bait and doling more nice things ( which don't cost the earth)

100 happy days. Every day for 100 days, post a pic of something that makes you happy that day - it could be big, or it could be as little as a fave song coming on the radio. It's great to make you feel generally happier

I cut off my family completely instead of trying to build a relationship with them, but the main thing was starting CBT, it has made me understand myself and feelings of shame so much better.

I exercise (at home daily), it gives me a sense of purpose as I rarely do things that are just for me.

SpeedofaSloth · 24/03/2019 00:36

Losing weight, which meant no overeating, which means (for me) no chocolate.

I'm also cutting out most alcohol for the same reason. I feel 10 years younger.

Froglette16 · 24/03/2019 00:38

Start a bullet journal with each aspiration on a different page. Then track yourself. An exercise page, healthy eating page, even a snacking page (list your favourite healthy snacks and stick with them).

Remus loving your tiny treat. I can now admit to my tiny treat = a weekend at Center Parcs.

I like the idea of 100 happy days. Where do you post the pictures?

I couldn’t get on with bullet journaling, but have developed a system of my own.

We could have a thread here, couldn’t we, post for 100 days 100 things that made us happy?

madeyemoodysmum · 24/03/2019 08:26

Find the time that works for you do do exercise. I’m a morning person so I can get up and go swimming before work. Even as early as 6 am.

Dh likes to go after work He just can’t do the morning. Go with your natural cycles.

Walking is a good change. Good for you. Good for the environment.

OhioOhioOhio · 24/03/2019 08:34

I stopped speaking to myself like crap.

MatildaTheGreat · 24/03/2019 08:35

Well, I would have posted a picture of my morning coffee, that made me very happy. Unfortunately I have drunk it so you have to imagine it.

The sun is shining so I am going for a long walk, then a swim.

I no longer check work e mails on evenings, weekends or days when I am on leave.

123bananas · 24/03/2019 08:39

I try to get more sleep by going to bed earlier.

I spend more time on dental hygiene with my new water flosser.

I do at least 10,000 steps a day at work anyway.

Now if I could just make time for an exercise class to tackle my tummy I would be on a roll.

MatildaTheGreat · 24/03/2019 08:40

I will absolutely stop checking work emails at the weekend as of tomorrow Blush

I started doing this for tummy tackling a while ago. Need to start again. @123bananas

Pics of trees make me very happy. My phone is full of them and I'm off for a walk now to take more! 😀

GirlfriendInAKorma · 24/03/2019 09:44

Thank you for starting this thread :) lots of things on here that I needed to read today.

ColouringPencils · 24/03/2019 10:07

Some things I have done deliberately and some just later on realised they were good for me:
Walking to work, it's about 50 mins, but the bus takes almost as long and it's great to be out in the fresh air. I really miss it on days when I don't bother.
Early nights, usually in bed by 10.30 and up at 6.30
Cutting down alcohol - I only drink at weekends now, although I did Dry Jan and felt great by the end of it, so am toying with giving up completely
Joining an exercise class - I always avoided it as I knew I would be shit. I am, and it's still fun! And I am getting better.
Reading - my first love. I have been doing more of it and watching less TV.
Housework - my big hate. But I discovered it's much easier to blast through Sunday's chores with a 2-hour audio drama on.
Learning a language - I use the Duolingo app in the months leading up to summer holiday. 10 mins a morning, it's fun and I feel like I am improving myself. This will be my 4th language in 4 years.

Things I want to do more of/ get better at:
Should eat less bread - I know it makes me feel sluggish, but it is like an addiction
Spend less time on my phone - what a time sap
Declutter - a big one for me
Go back to yoga
Keep on top of housework
Buy more flowers

Sportycustard · 24/03/2019 10:19

So many great ideas here!

I changed job late last year and now have a 45 minute train commute plus a fifteen minute walk each end. I'm fitter and am just reading my tenth book this year as I read on my journey.

I'm interested in the yoga with Adrienne videos but, having looked just now, there's hundreds of them! Where do you start? I'd love to be toned and bendy instead if fat and stiff!

Something that has helped my mindset is only keeping things that fit me in my wardrobe. My weight fluctuates as I often have to go on steroids for a long term condition. It used to depress me looming at all the things that currently didn't fit. Now I open the wardrobe door and can wear everything I can see.

MonaChopsis · 24/03/2019 10:48

What are great idea for a thread. I've had a really tough winter mental health wise and could do with a mental and physical spring clean! Here's my happy photo for the day... My cats enjoying the sunshine.

Thehogfatherstolemycurry · 24/03/2019 19:42

I got rid of my car and now share with dh which means I have to walk the mile to work and back instead of being lazy and jumping in it.
I've started telling myself that I don't need to eat as soon as I feel a bit hungry.
I'm trying to drink more water - got a bottle for work, now only drink water at work.
Only buy alcohol at weekend so not tempted in the week.
Stopped having a sandwich for lunch. Salad, boiled eggs, fruit, fat free yogurt instead.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/03/2019 19:58

Those cats look really chilled!

Some happy trees from today!
