Can anyone recommend me a vacuum cleaner?

I have a Henry but I think he is on his last legs. I would like something smaller and lighter but needs to be at least as powerful. I live somewhere with mostly wooden floors, lots of awkward spaces, high ceilings, lots of spiders, two cats and a dog. Rather not go Dyson because Brexit! Grin Can you recommend (or not) yours? Thank you!

Miele Complete C3 Powerline is great on wooden floors, hard work on carpeted areas though. I don't have pets but I think there is a cat and dog version (likely a bit more expensive though!).
It's a cylinder vac, I find it quite light and easier to manoeuvre than our old Henry.

Thank you! That’s the first entries on my spreadsheet.

I can second the Miele. I’ve just bought the Cat & Dog as I have a fluffy cat. It’s good, especially using the turbo head.

I have this Shark. (Although I paid less than the current price, I think it's often on offer if you shop around)

www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B074SHMVNN/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?psc=1&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&ie=UTF8

I have a mix of carpet and hard flooring and it copes well with both (there's a button to change the flooring option). The dust box is small and does need emptying frequently but that's not a problem really. I have two batteries with one on charge and one in use.

BibbityBobbityEars · 14/03/2019 10:56

Miele cat and dog

Shark is ok (and cheaper) but not as good. Also a PITA if you try and use the attachments and hose (keeps falling over). I have both in different locations.

SoupDragon · 14/03/2019 11:17

Not sure how it's a pain to use the attachments and it doesn't have a hose.

ContinuityError · 14/03/2019 11:23

Miele, definitely. I only have the basic model but it’s great on both wood floors and carpet. It replaced a Dyson about 10 years ago - even DH (who is oblivious to dust) noticed a huge difference back then, and it is still going strong.

LondonJax · 14/03/2019 11:34

I've got a basic corded Shark. I used to have a Henry (still around somewhere) but it was a pain using it on the stairs. I like the Shark because the main section can come off so you can use it on the stairs easily.

I bought my mum one when her old vacuum died. She used to a cleaner come in as she has dementia and the cleaner liked it so much she bought herself one.

I should have bought shares!

VeraWangTwang · 14/03/2019 11:52

Dyson v8, worth every penny

hillbilly · 14/03/2019 11:56

Miele

AnaChocolatte · 14/03/2019 12:02

I have just brought a Miele Blizzard CX1 - I couldn't buy a Dyson for similar reasons!

I chose between the cordless Shark and the Miele - but went for the Miele in the end.

The Miele is a bit heavy but v manoeuvrable, feels solid and the suction is is so strong it lifts the carpet off the floor on it's highest setting.

poorbuthappy · 14/03/2019 12:02

Do not buy the Vax Blade 32V thing

McWeedie · 14/03/2019 12:39

Miele Complete C3 Cat and dog, flipping brilliant.

WeepingWillowWeepingWino · 14/03/2019 12:41

I'm on my second Miele and tbh I find it a bit annoying, the cable doesn't unspool very well so unless you pull the entire thing out before you start it'll pull itself out of the socket. My previous Panasonic never did that.

I don't think I'll get another one.

Blobby10 · 14/03/2019 13:41

I have a Henry which is OK but friend has a Miele and, having tried it a couple of times I will go for that next time - its 5 years old but suction is still more powerful than my 2 year old Henry.

Blobby10 · 14/03/2019 13:41

The only reason I bought a Henry in the first place was the fact that it's a UK brand still made in the UK

FitzChivalry · 14/03/2019 13:47

My Miele cat and dog is 5 years old and it still works brilliantly. I vacuum pretty much daily due to pets.

EKGEMS · 14/03/2019 13:51

I'm on my second shark vacuum it's best brand I've ever had (use daily)

AliceAforethought · 14/03/2019 14:11

Last good one I had was a Dyson, sorry.

I currently have a Vax Air. It's crap.

Harumphharagh · 14/03/2019 14:17

Loving my new shark!

123fushia · 14/03/2019 14:18

I have a robotic one. Remote control turns it on, it copes well with laminate, tiles and carpet. It takes itself around each room - I lift things up and move stray wires. It has 80 min battery life and then takes itself back to it’s docking station. I switch it on when I leave the house and return to clean floors. It also has an adaptor to add water and Flash when it ‘mops’ successfully. Bought it via Tesco website - £120 but well worth it. Needs to be emptied every other use (dog hairs etc.) - very satisfying!

MrsCasares · 14/03/2019 15:03

Shark liftaway. It’s amazig. Cord is long, I can do my whole downstairs without unplugging.

Stairs are a doddle.

It’s sharkmazing.

Backseatonthebus · 14/03/2019 15:47

Sebo, absolutely brilliant. We also have a Shark and whilst it is very manoeuvrable, I spend half the time emptying it resulting in either dust clouds over the bin, or a trek outside every time. It's nothing on the Sebo.

macnab · 14/03/2019 15:55

I have the Miele Complete C3 too and love it.
