What is a good brand of waterproof raincoat for a child that also provides warmth?

Just that really. DD has a really warm down jacket which is not waterproof and a thin shower proof raincoat which is not at all warm. In wet, winter weather like today, she has to wear both keep warm and dry.

What is a good, not too expensive raincoat that also provides some warmth?

Thanks in advance!

Trespass is great value. They do 3 in 1 coats.

DeathMetalMum · 14/03/2019 07:48

Dd's have m&s coats that have stormwear. Our school runs is 20 minutes and they're easily kept dry. They was well and things like zips don't seem to break.

I've bought regatta and other coats in the past and the zips have broken or been really hard/fiddly to do. I'd had a few hand me down m&s coats from sil and decided that were much better value than anything I had bought which had broken or was no use after one child wearing it. Certainly not possible to pass on to anyone else.

Mountain Warehouse also do good 3 in 1 coats.

I came on to say trespass or mountain warehouse too. They do good reductions too, I usually get them in the sales for around £25 for the following year.

ThunderStorms · 14/03/2019 08:20

Lands end have warm waterproof coats. The Arctic(?) Parker is good.

Thank you! I thought Mountain Warehouse, too. I'll have a look there and the other places recommended.

Boden have some, just make sure it says waterproof and not water resistant or shower proof

5amisnotdaytime · 14/03/2019 10:34

Mine have a 3 in 1 with an inner fleece that zips out. Means they can wear it as a raincoat in the summer when they don't want to wear a warm coat. Got them from a trekking shop.

WeepingWillowWeepingWino · 14/03/2019 10:37

DD currently has a parka-style coat from Debenhams which seems to be doing the trick.

She used to have the 3-in-1 coats from Mountain Warehouse but started to kind them a struggle to get on and off.

MadSweeney · 14/03/2019 10:44

London Fog do amazing raincoats. Been going since the 20's and it's surprising how few people have heard of them.
Anyway, don't look for new, look at the second hand ones on eBay. Absolute bargains to be had.

Nairobiblue · 14/03/2019 10:53

Landsend 3-in-1 coats are brilliant as are their parkas. Last for ever and so easy to wash and tumble dry too.

JellyBellies · 14/03/2019 10:55

Landsend are brilliant for this. We also have the 3 in one and its so easy to wash and dry.

TheWomanin12B · 14/03/2019 10:56

Landsend Expedition Parka here too. It's such a good coat. Love the in built hand warmers. No need for gloves! Extendable sleeves too. Such good quality and v warm.

NoodieRoodie · 14/03/2019 10:58

Trespass and they have a great sale in at the moment, I've just bought next year's coats for under £20 each. Because of the sizing I always have to buy big but I've found they've lasted 2 years and are in a fit state to be passed down

Ironfloor269 · 14/03/2019 14:38

See, I love The Land's End parka but because DD is going to outgrow it in about an year (she is 8), I'm loathed to spend so much, however good the quality is.

It’s up to you what you buy, but it has:

Grow-A-Long sleeves extend up to 3.5cm/1½ inches to fit them as they grow

Ours easily lasted more than two years. The body was long enough as well.

BlueChampagne · 14/03/2019 16:38

Muddy Puddles have a sale on at the moment.

ThatLibraryMiss · 14/03/2019 17:31

Landsend's Squall coat or Squall jacket, both of which are in the sale at the moment. The adult version of the coat has been my dogwalking coat for the past four years and it's kept me toasty warm and dry in some very unpleasant weather. It washes so well that someone asked me the other day if I'd got a new coat. Go for the longer one if your DD will accept it, because rain running off the bottom of the jacket onto your bum is even nastier than it running onto your mid-thighs.

GreenEggsHamandChips · 14/03/2019 17:32

Tresspass really are the best value for money option

Theknacktoflying · 14/03/2019 17:33

muddypuddles
landsend

WhenDoISleep · 14/03/2019 17:37

Both my DC have the Land's End Squall coats - fantastic, warm and dry in even the most awful downpours. The sizing is generous, we have always got two winters for each child out of each coat. Check out the sale section and you might pick up one of last seasons colours cheaper. Alternatively, size up now to get maximum growth room.

postitnot · 14/03/2019 19:13

Another vote for tresspass, warm waterproof and wash well. And not expensive!

CrazyOldBagLady · 14/03/2019 19:15

Polarn o pyret are good but pricey. Ours came from ebay.

itsabongthing · 14/03/2019 19:15

I like the Hatley ones. Completely waterproof but with a towelling lining and you can put a jumper under. We use a shower proof padded type coat for the coldest weather then the Hatley raincoat for autumn and spring, then a very lightweight pac a Mac type thing for summer.
