Unexpected weekend to myself - what would you do with DC?

So I have an unexpected weekend all to myself DH is taking DD to see family for the weekend. We have (and still bloody are) gone through some serious sleep deprivation due to DC health (persistent cough for years not been able to get to the bottom off it). So apart from sleep what shall I do?

I have the following so far - Read, long baths, Netflix (any recommendations?).

I have seen previous threads with some fab ideas but can't find them. I'll leave my weekend in your hands wonderful mumsnetters!

I am sure others will come along with suggestions. Have they considered reflux for the cough? I know a couple of people with unexplained chronic coughing who have been diagnosed with reflux

weekfour · 13/03/2019 16:34

I'd go swimming. Actual swimming without having to hold anyone. Then I would have a long, luxurious steam room/sauna/jacuzzi sesh. I might even throw caution to the wind and dry my hair when I've finished!

I usually just watch other people do this while I stand holding children in the baby pool.

Buy yummy food from M&S for self or with friend.

WhenZogateSuperworm · 13/03/2019 16:36

Spa day. Chinese for tea and junk food while watching a film and then a nice of lie in the next day.

Hellohah ahh thanks for replying no it's not reflux unfortunately we've been seeing GP for years about this & feel fobbed off really. She has a constant runny nose which is getting blocked up which is making her cough all fecking night.

GP says childhood asthma, another said weak immune system. We've tried non diary, looking allergies/hayfever, a homeopath to name a few. I'm going to the GP next week when ours returns and I'm going to demand a referral (last one I got after an out of hours hospital trip wasn't put through Hmm) enough is enough. Thanks for the thought though.

Yes see a consultant paediatric ENT. They will sort you out.

I would also cook a vat of nice healthy food (eg veg chilli) and batch freeze it so you have a few healthy dinners in the freezer.

And exercise. I would go for a long run but if that's not your thing maybe a long walk somewhere nice?

CaptainBrickbeard · 13/03/2019 16:45

I would sleep, watch whatever I liked on tv which probably would be a self indulgent Buffy marathon; I’d read whole books, I’d write a big chunk of my novel. I’d eat meals at random times with questionable nutritional content. I’d also go swimming and probably for a walk. And maybe go shopping. And have some uninterrupted phone conversations. A weekend would not be long enough to fit it all in!

dizzydaisies · 13/03/2019 16:58

Wow, stealth boast much? Honestly OP, you're just making all of us jealous 😜

I'd have takeaway, watch TV, go shopping, laze in bed... so many possibilities!

afrikat · 13/03/2019 17:16

Go to the cinema in the middle of the day on my own then pick up some food for dinner and leave the washing up til the day after. Go for a wander round the shops, browsing books for ages and stopping for a cup of tea. Find a new recipe I fancy making and do so whilst drinking wine and watching Netflix.

Pancakeflipper · 13/03/2019 17:20

Change the bedding the momemt your partner walks put the door and have fresh crisp sheets all to yourself for the night. Bliss.

happypotamus · 13/03/2019 17:23

I would sleep, read in bed, listen to loud music, catch up on things I recorded on tv over a year ago and haven't had chance to watch, eat rubbish that didn't need any preparing or takeaway, probably not bother getting dressed.

SummerHouse · 13/03/2019 17:28

Came on thinking "excellent I am on my own with DCs this weekend so we are in the same boat..."
But your boat has no children in it!
I am now Envy at lovely suggestions.
I would go to the cinema. Get a day pass to the gym and run, swim, steam etc. Maybe have a look round a castle without the irritation joy of small children. Enjoy!

Stayawayfromitsmouth · 13/03/2019 17:29

Oh loads of things.
Read/ cinema/ catch up with friends/ sleep! / Long bike ride/ go for a nice quiet meal/ hobbies...
What did you like doing before you had responsibilities?
May I recommend not getting a hangover? Unless that's what you really want to do.

Pancakeflipper · 13/03/2019 17:32

FlowersGrin to Summerhouse.

funnystory · 13/03/2019 17:40

I would spend some time looking round the shops and treating myself to a few new things for my wardrobe. I hardly ever get the chance to look at clothes and try them on in peace. Then I'd have a nice lunch, maybe with a glass of wine, and then treat myself to a manicure. Sounds amazing!

SummerHouse · 13/03/2019 17:58

Thank you for flowers @Pancakeflipper but you had me at crisp sheets all to yourself
That's pure bed heaven and one I can still do!! DP staying in a youth hostel.

ForTheLoveOfGrace · 13/03/2019 18:40

Amazing suggestions. The crisp clean sheet is genius!

Yeah so very sorry to rub salt in wound I not only managed to make people jealous but lure the wrong crowd with my mistake in the title - really sorry Blush

OP posts:
SummerHouse · 13/03/2019 18:46

Don't be sorry. I am taking away the clean sheets and was happy to live vicariously on the other suggestions. Grin

PrivateCello · 13/03/2019 18:48

Enjoy your weekend! Have they checked for adenoids re your dd?

Jackshouse · 13/03/2019 18:50

Just enjoy weeing by yourself!

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 13/03/2019 18:53

I'd go to the cinema alone on the middle of the day, pick out some ready to cook food from m&s, May be a picnic style things, go to a steamroom/sauna/Jacuzzi place, have a lounge in bed, go day drinking with friends, drink gin alone at home, get a Chinese takeaway, a dominoes delivery, I'd bake brownies, and then a cheesecake with bits of the brownie in it, watch Netflix on the couch in my jammies with my duvet.....

I know that's way too manly things, I'm just off in my own wee fantasy world now!

Have a lovely weekend, hope it's amazing, I'm very envious!

Leeds2 · 13/03/2019 18:59

Go and get your hair cut, if hairdresser appointments can't usually be done solo!
I would go for lunch, and a browse, at my local garden centre. Home delivery Chinese/Thai takeaway for dinner.

BeersAndBassGuitars · 13/03/2019 19:00

Go out for breakfast.

Read a book/watch a film.

Have a nap.

Find a live band in a small pub and drink real ale.

TinyTickler · 13/03/2019 19:14

Oh so jealous! Gym and swim with no worries about timescales. Wander round garden centre and shops. Nice lunch and glass of wine out. Long bath. I'd then get bored and miss the toddler, but oh to do all that!
