Need to earn £200 per month working from home

WideBlueSky · 11/03/2019 18:25

As the title says really. Due to gap in budget between incomings and outgoings I need an additional £200 per month to stop falling into debt. This needs to be from home because of caring responsibilities, so something I could do in evenings when DC in bed. Does anyone have any ideas?
I don’t really have any transferable skills- I have an English degree and can do basic admin/ computer work.

Matched betting you’d make that easily

Teaching English online? (disclaimer: I know nothing about how this works, but I'm constantly bombarded by ads recruiting for teachers for China - you seem only to need TEFL rather than CELTA, which can be picked up quickly and cheaply enough)

WideBlueSky · 11/03/2019 18:40

miltonroad I did matched betting a while ago. Had a few of my accounts closed down and after a while it just seemed harder to make money and too complicated to follow.

UtterlyDesperate I can’t afford any additional qualifications. I can’t afford to live never mind anything else unfortunately.

Thank you for the suggestions.

Piecework for a small local company? I earn around £800 per month doing this, about 12-15 hours per week. Stress free and you can work when it suits you.

Thelieswetelltoourselves · 11/03/2019 18:47

Firstly I'd say look at whether you are receiving all the help you have can get and cut all expenditure to minimum.

Do you work in day? Can you work in evenings outside of house? Any DP for childcare?

Hollowvictory · 11/03/2019 18:48

Ironing, I pay £10 per hour so that would be 20 hours, 4 hours per wkk? My ironing lady takes it home and does it and brings it back. Put on fb local pages etc to spread the word

SileneOliveira · 11/03/2019 18:50

If you have an English degree, the obvious idea would be website content writing.

Inthemane · 11/03/2019 19:01

Writing is a great idea if you have an English degree. Take a look at sites like fiverr, copify, peopleperhour while you're getting started - they aren't well paid but if you need to make £50 a week you could manage this working a couple of hours a night.
You could also approach small local businesses offering cheap copywriting so you can build up a portfolio of your work - this can lead to more clients/better paid work.

YesQueen · 11/03/2019 19:02

If you have any money at the minute, and any open bookie accounts then do Cheltenham as it's easy money fast for matched betting

WideBlueSky · 11/03/2019 19:15

I have no money.
I’m getting all benefit entitlement.
I don’t have help for childcare. I am lucky enough to have a boss who lets me work 9-3 and school holidays from home.

Can you do tutoring from home?

WideBlueSky · 11/03/2019 19:20

I earn 18K a year, so net around 1260 per month. My rent is 750. I know the easy answer would be to move house but all houses around here are at least that. Moving away would mean moving DC away from their school when they are settled and happy. I also can’t afford to move because I would need deposit and first months rent on top of moving costs. I’m in my overdraft at the end of each month.

I’m just looking for a way of making enough money to sustain myself. I will look into the suggestions on this thread. But unfortunately can’t do anything that would cost money to start.

WideBlueSky · 11/03/2019 19:25

I also have a DC who would find being left with others very difficult hence my working hours. It all just feels like an up hill battle at the moment.

I can’t tutor from home but like the idea of the websites inthemane suggested.

Try Upwork - lots of freelance jobs on there, all work from home. Lots of different things - writing, research, admin. You do need to check client has decent score and has paid people before as Upwork do no checks. You would need to register for self-assessment if you earn over £1,000 from there per year - first £1,000 is tax free. Some of the pay rates are dire but some aren't too bad. I get about $30 an hour which is low compared to what used to earn but can stay at home.

DointItForTheKids · 11/03/2019 19:28

If you go the own business route, remember most of the business card people offer a certain amount free so you could easily go to several of them, get free cards and put them up in your local little Tesco etc. Plus, if the school has a newsletter you can often advertise services in them for a v small amount of cost that would probably be worth it if you went the ironing route for example.

The other thing might be call centre jobs where you can work later hours say during evenings - not sure where you find these, or ones where you give customer support through website - maybe someone else will be able to give you the lowdown on this as I'd not know where to find such a role/working hours, sure someone else would though.

ivykaty44 · 11/03/2019 19:31

Four hours ironing a week sounds like a good solution

FrontRowSeat · 11/03/2019 19:31

Definitely ironing if you drive and can collect/drop off during the day/evening. I used to do this and easily made more than £50 a week. Or go the Indeed job site and put ‘Remote’ in the location search box for work at home jobs. Best of luck.

littleoralot · 11/03/2019 19:32

@TrickyKid what is piecework? If you dont mind me asking x

WideBlueSky · 11/03/2019 19:34

I don’t drive and don’t know when I would be able to stop ironing off but I will have a think and look into if I could make it work.

I’m in a similar situation, I’m going to be setting up an ironing business. Depends on your area of course but it’s very much in demand around here.

southnownorth · 11/03/2019 19:35

I am currently doing a bit of work for a company called Appen, It is mainly rating ads on Instragram for one hour a day. This earns me about £70 per week. They do other stuff as well.

I also do matched betting. Perfect week to sign up as well with it being Cheltenham.

notapizzaeater · 11/03/2019 19:35

Look at prolific academic - they pay quite well for surveys

Also join the money shed forum. Lots of ideas on there.

WideBlueSky · 11/03/2019 19:41

southnownorth The Appen thing sounds great I will take a look now. This is why I love Mumsnet.

Might not help you now but I have found two admin jobs for schools working from home by looking at my local council website under admin jobs. Might be worth a check.
I feel for you, you sound like me. I can't get a job where my kids go to childcare as they are autistic and don't cope. I can't leave them in the evening either, they freak out and my other half cannot cope either.
