Need to earn £200 per month working from home

As the title says really. Due to gap in budget between incomings and outgoings I need an additional £200 per month to stop falling into debt. This needs to be from home because of caring responsibilities, so something I could do in evenings when DC in bed. Does anyone have any ideas?
I don’t really have any transferable skills- I have an English degree and can do basic admin/ computer work.

Is that Appen thing legit??

southnownorth · 11/03/2019 19:45

Appen is definately legit. I have been working on an off for them for about four years.

perhapsnever · 11/03/2019 19:47

How does the Appen thing work?

southnownorth · 11/03/2019 19:50

You just select your country and see what current opportunities they have. It's normally 1-4 hours a day of work. Rating ads, evaluating social media sites. It can take a while to get on a project though. Lion bridge is a similar company.

TrickyKid · 11/03/2019 19:50

@littleoralot it's where you get paid based on what you produce rather than on how many hours you work. So you might have to assemble a product etc and get paid per item you complete. Not the most interesting of jobs but good for extra cash as long as it's for a company that's paying a decent amount.

HaventGotAllDay · 11/03/2019 20:13

Have a look on the earn-a-tenner-a-day thread. Lots of ideas there, especially online stuff.
Fiverr, People Per Hour etc are flooded unfortunately with people who have no USP. I signed up in September for all the sites like that, for translating/transcription work and have had nothing. Nada.

I think you’d be better to work longer hours in your current job. I know you say childcare is an issue but would your DC get used to a childminder or be happy to stay at school if they provide clubs? Do you have any help at all? Grandparents or their dad?

Abkbjbjb · 11/03/2019 20:22

Following if u don't mind Smile

WideBlueSky · 11/03/2019 21:33

Hughes12345 DCs Dad no longer involved. One of my DC has attachment issues after trauma. I can’t just let them get used to babysitter.

OP are you on universal credit or tax credits and housing benefit? Do a better off calculator to see if you will be better off on UC. You might be surprised. People in similar circumstances to you often are.

WideBlueSky · 11/03/2019 21:51

Tax credits etc. I’m terified of UC it seems like a nightmare system with money that’s taken off you if you earn more in a particular month etc. I might try speaking to CAB again.

Do the maths using this calculator and you can switch between current benefits and universal credit.

www.betteroffcalculator.co.uk/#/calculator/new/step1

agree definitely get proper advice before switching but universal credit can work better for some families and yes if you do earn more in one assessment period for universal credit is affected but it also prevents tax credits overpayments.

However do not switch if you have any HMRC debt that isn't being recovered as it will automatically be taken out of your UC payment will little negotiation on amount.

Hope you get something sorted soon.

I was going to suggest the thread about earning £10 per day, think it’s in Money Matters.

WideBlueSky · 12/03/2019 00:46

£10 a day thread is great, thanks for directing me to it!

Helkatx · 12/11/2019 13:06

Just wondering if appen pay you via paypal or do you have to declare your earnings?

HairyFloppins · 12/11/2019 13:08

Appen pay you through a company called Payoneer. Mine is due any day now.

Elllicam · 12/11/2019 13:48

Appen is great, I earn about £300 a month for an hour a day. It makes a big difference.

HairyFloppins · 12/11/2019 13:53

Ellicam I wonder if you are on the same project as me?, I earn about the same.

I used to be on a 20 hour a week project that paid brilliantly but that sadly ended!.

Elllicam · 12/11/2019 18:30

Very possibly :) I noticed today there are a lot of new projects, one was $21 an hour.

HairyFloppins · 12/11/2019 19:12

@ellicam I have applied for that!

Is your project Instagram work?

Helkatx · 12/11/2019 19:32

Is that paid directly into your bank account or can you transfer to cards? Thanks
