Is this ok for a lunch box?

I always struggle with lunch boxes for the kids because they prefer things like soup etc but I'm trying!

They are 5 and 7. Is this in the region of OK?

Cheese and lettuce sandwich on wholemeal bread.
Little tub of strawberries.
A rice cake.
Little tub of popcorn (half each of a 63 calorie crisp packet size).
An apple.

Sounds fine to me. You'll always get people on here telling you about the amazing healthy lunches they pack.
Today mine have - a ham sandwich, small tub of salad, cheese string, a chocolate pancake (coz it's pancake day)

BlueMerchant · 05/03/2019 08:28

I think that sounds great.( I might add a yogurt too) I always struggle when it's school trips( my two have school dinner). I put in just what you have but tbh our school doesn't police the lunchbox and my two come home complaining their friends had crisps/choc. I don't want to be seen as 'that' mum by the teachers though in case am judged!.

Sounds great.

Mine have today
. Cheese sandwich on wholemeal
Tangerine
Apple
Tube yogurt
Cad mini roll
Breadsticks

They're asking for a jelly instead of a yoghurt! I've said yoghurt today and jelly tomorrow!

(I don't know why yogurt changed to yoghurt.. I don't think that's a word!)

I'm confused over yogurt/yoghurt too.Confused

TeaforTwoBiscuitOrThree · 05/03/2019 08:38

Mine has today:
whole meal sandwich with pate
kiwi
banana
milk
juice
muesli bar

She has fruit snack + drink at 10.30 and then lunch at school at 12:00. They also get school milk if they want to.

Lllot5 · 05/03/2019 08:43

Yoghurt is how you spell yoghurt I think.

Calzone · 05/03/2019 08:54

Today my son has

Sausage roll
Bag dried strawberries
Carrots

He’s 14.

JeezYouLoon · 05/03/2019 09:05

My teenagers have mini sausage rolls, crisps, drink, chocolate animal biscuits and an apple which will enjoy the journey to and from school for the whole week, before finally being eaten on Friday

We eat a 'proper' meal in the evening with loads of veggies etc and if they take in carrot sticks or anything remotely healthy they'll get the piss ripped out of them Hmm

thereisnorinbath · 05/03/2019 09:09

Can you get one of these (or similar) and send them with soup? My kids have them and they're great.

siestakey · 05/03/2019 09:17

Sounds perfect and healthy :)
The crap some parents feed their kids is ridiculous (I used to volunteer as a TA while I was in college).

ShivD · 05/03/2019 09:26

Sounds good to me. My general rules is
1 sandwich/ pasta/ main part
1 veg
1 fruit
1 pudding (raisins/ yoghurt)
and usually a bag of hula hoops because who doesn’t love hula hoops!!

anniehm · 05/03/2019 09:27

I used to send soup or pasta in a thermos pot for a change

magpie24 · 05/03/2019 09:31

Sounds great to me!

PlugUgly1980 · 05/03/2019 09:31

If they're active it sounds a bit light on calories to me. Mine are only 3 and 5 but would be hungry on that, they'd have a full packet of crisps and a cake (mini roll or mr Kipling type slice as well).

TheInvestigator · 05/03/2019 09:32

We bring soup in a thermos when we go out for our "adventures" (what my 5 year old calls going walking in the woods). But I would worry about him spilling all over himself at school, but that little one linked above looks good so ordered a couple and will give it a trial run at home! Thank you!

Mine like soup in their flasks, they have that once a week, pasta once a week and then a mix of sandwiches / wraps etc the other days.

Today they have
hummous snack pot and 4 cream crackers
cucumber
bag of popcorn
cheesestring
hartleys ready made jelly

formerbabe · 05/03/2019 09:39

Ds has...
Chicken sandwich
Apple
Celery and cucumber batons
Biscuit
Bag of crisps

TheInvestigator · 05/03/2019 09:39

@PlugUgly1980

This is the problem with mine. They won't eat a lot in one sitting. Breakfast is 2 weetabix with bananas, snack at break time is a packet of crisps and a bowl of grapes, lunch is like my OP, then they have a bowl of carrot sticks and nuts after school, then sports clubs or swimming and then home for dinner. If I put more into their lunch box I don't think they'd eat it.

Yoghurt = English
Yogurt = American

TheInvestigator · 05/03/2019 09:53

Thanks for all the responses. I think I will add in something like a banana muffin or beetroot brownies along with some cucumber sticks. That should bulk it our a bit incase they are hungry. The school police the lunch boxes for sweet treats so I can't add biscuits or cake, but it should be fine with something that's baked with fruit or veg in it!

BrendaUrie · 05/03/2019 11:15

jeez. That made me laugh. We've had some well travelled apples in our lunch bags too 😂

MyDcAreMarvel · 05/03/2019 12:32

No it’s always yogurt never a h.

Is this ok for a lunch box?
TheInvestigator · 05/03/2019 13:05

Yoghurt is a variant spelling of yogurt that is common in British English. It can be used in all the same contexts as its American counterpart yogurt.

While yoghurt is much more common in British English than in American English, it still isn’t the dominant spelling.
