Is there any chance veganism is on the wane?

Counterintuitively I find it's really limiting my food options when eating out, i really am not a fan of sweet potatoes or cheese substitutes. Sad

I don’t know, do you think it might be?

hugoagogo · 04/03/2019 18:19

Well it's been a while, I do like the vegan sausage rolls though.Wink

Not sure why you'd think that?

Are you vegan for health reasons? If not the you don't have to be Vegas. Most vegans manage to find something to eat.

hugoagogo · 04/03/2019 18:33

I forgot to say I am vegetarian, so you will find lots of places have meat fish or vegan.

Are you vegan? If so, I apologise for getting the wrong end of the stick.

tinyradish · 04/03/2019 18:35

I think you might be being a bit ridiculous. There are so many vegetarian options everywhere now! If you don't want to be vegetarian, don't be. Maybe focus on your reasons for choosing that lifestyle in the first place & see if that helps? Maybe you're just having a little blip & need to change up recipe/where you're going out to eat?

SurgeHopper · 04/03/2019 18:36

No. Its on the up. Big time.

xsquared · 04/03/2019 18:37

Hugoago, I'm also vegetarian and the only place I've been disappointed with, in terms of veggie options, is Frankie and Benny's where they served goat's cheese wrap.

Not sure where you're going to find options limited for your dietary requirements.

hugoagogo · 04/03/2019 18:49

Well I am not surprised no-one agrees I am an awkward bugger.Grin

I would just like to have options with cheese and eggs, not just sweet potatoes and mushrooms.

It sometimes seems like lacto- ovo vegetarians have been forgotten, there is cafe in Leeds for instance that has icons on it's menu for vegan items, but not one for vegetarian. So eggs Benedict gets no icon, bread and cheese, no icon.Sad

I eat meat some of the time (am in the process of cutting it out completely) but when we go out for lunch or dinner I'll have a vegetarian dish 95% of the time, I haven't been anywhere that doesn't serve a good variety of vegetarian dishes that I can think of.

xsquared you've just made me remember the goats cheese and black grape wrap that a restaurant near me does and I now I desperately want one Grin

Villanellesproudmum · 04/03/2019 18:52

I had a fairly nice Beetroot burger at Frankie and Bennys recently, the vegan mayonnaise was really nice.

MitziK · 04/03/2019 18:57

It's probably the same level of annoyance I have as an omnivore who prefers vegetarian food but can't eat dairy - I'd like to have something that, for once, isn't smothered in stuff that makes me ill. So I do alright out of the vegan options.

You're being catered for (as am I). Don't knock it, as it wasn't that long ago that we'd both be sitting there hungry along with the vegans.

LoniceraJaponica · 04/03/2019 19:01

If you want fabulous vegan food you need to go to Church, Temple of Fun in Sheffield.

NotANotMan · 04/03/2019 19:03

I've never seen a menu with just meat, fish and vegan. Ever.

hugoagogo · 04/03/2019 19:28

I expect it depends a lot where you live, things are better in Scotland generally and worse in London obviously.

Anyway, so nobody thinks it might have peaked then?

I agree. I'm veggie and am sick of so many vegan options meaning I can't get my cheese fix!!

Afraid not Grin

I'm quite pleased although not vegetarian, I'm cutting down on meat as much as possible so delighted there is so much yummy vegan and veggie food when I go out.

Grace212 · 04/03/2019 20:51

OP I'm vegetarian and I've noticed that some places have just decided the vegan option is the vegetarian option, so I know what you mean

I don't eat out much though, usually only for work, so not a major issue.

TheBitterBoy · 04/03/2019 21:02

I agree with you, as a vegetarian I find the vegan craze has reduced the things I want to eat in restaurants recently. Lots of vegetarian options have been reworked as vegan, so no cheese, no creamy sauces, beetroot in everything. Bleurgh.

hugoagogo · 04/03/2019 21:02

Dh is obsessed with eating out, so it's always a challenge for me to find something nice. Mostly I would be happier with a cheese and tomato sandwich at home.

some places have just decided the vegan option is the vegetarian option

^This is what I was trying (clumsily) to say!

An I please ask in a non-goody manner. For those who are vegetarian for ethical reasons. How do you reconcile eating dairy with your beliefs about animal welfare. I'm genuinely interested.

hugoagogo · 04/03/2019 21:07

I wonder what's in vegan fish and chips?
