Does anyone else shower in the dark?

clairemcnam · 04/03/2019 16:53

I have a shower every morning, but find it too much to put the light on and have a shower. Showering in the dark wakes me up gradually and makes me feel less grumpy. DP thinks this is strange. So do others do this too?

Never have. It sounds like it might be quite pleasant though.

Whynham · 04/03/2019 18:00

Yes but I do it at the end of the day to help relax and ease into sleep. Nice with just a candle.

Wexfordtransit · 04/03/2019 18:00

I do! It’s sensory overload otherwise! It’s not completely dark, I have a little shaving light on.

CakeNinja · 04/03/2019 18:01

My neighbour does - because she doesn’t want anyone to see her shadow from the main road!
Can’t say I’ve ever purposely done it, happened to me once when we had a bulb blow in the bathroom and I was lathered up. Was a right kerfuffle.

KitKat1985 · 04/03/2019 18:01

No, but then I'm up at 5.30am when it's pitch black, so I'd probably fall over a lot if I did.

Prinstress · 04/03/2019 18:02

Yep. Bathroom light has been broken for a few weeks. I find it way more relaxing actually.

GreenThing · 04/03/2019 18:05

No, I can't even close my eyes in the shower.

I'm convinced if it's at all dark, I'll look out and see something horrific. Too many horror films watched. Grin

StarlightLady · 04/03/2019 18:16

Too risky! You might wash the wrong person by mistake and not realise it Grin

lucysmam · 04/03/2019 18:27

Yep; but only because the bathroom lightbulb needs replacing & I'm struggling to find the right bulb.

clairemcnam · 04/03/2019 18:30

I am up at 6am, but when it was properly dark, i just put the hall light on so there was enough light to make it safe. And yes sensory overload is right,

No, but the bulb had a dodgy connection and started flickering on and off. Combine that with the sound of the water and I was reminded of Titanic when Jack and Rose were trying to get on deck. Was very disconcerting! Confused

boringlyboring · 04/03/2019 18:33

With you on that GreenThing

I’m 27 and still open my eyes to check for shower killers.

SeaViewBliss · 04/03/2019 18:35

No but I’m going to start.

PickAChew · 04/03/2019 18:36

We have an led camping lantern in the bathroom. Much softer light and useful for autistic DS1 who can't cope with bright lights. Also useful when autistic Ds2 turns the bloody light off (switch is outside, which is annoying)

dontlikewinter · 04/03/2019 19:02

Yep I do. DH usually up before me so will have downstairs lights on but no, it's too bright for me, prefer a gentle wake up. I'm up at 6.30 so it's dark in winter at that time

gutrotweins · 04/03/2019 20:00

Me! When I worked I didn't put a light on before leaving the house - ever. That's why I arrived at work in inside-out and back to front jumpers and odd socks Grin

BigbreastsBiggerbeard · 04/03/2019 20:08

That's why I had a dimmer switch put in the bathroom. As others have said, sensory overload otherwise.

RedRedBluee · 04/03/2019 20:43

I used to have a bathroom with a light that only came on by sensor and a little mirror light I used to switch on the mirror light so it wasn’t completely pitch black and shower in the dark.
I have really long showers and was sick of stepping out every 5 minutes to turn the light back on.

Crossedfingerscrossedtoes · 04/03/2019 20:45

I shower in the dark too and dress in the dark! I hate turning lights on in the mornings when I wake up as it gives me a headache later in the day

Tenpole · 04/03/2019 20:45

Of course not. Because the daleks could get you.

clairemcnam · 04/03/2019 20:47

My bathroom is upstairs, so I am safe from the daleks.

Not through my choice but toddler DS doesn’t like the bright light going on first thing in the morning so he gets the LED nightlight I use for feeding DD and brings that to the bathroom to stop me turning the big light on if he’s coming in my shower.

Pieceofpurplesky · 04/03/2019 21:14

I do often but not by choice. My dad lives with us and is quite deaf. I shower at night downstairs near his room and he often turns the light off (it's outside the bathroom). He doesn't hear me shouting Grin

scrunchSE18 · 04/03/2019 22:38

I used to. I now have smart lighting in the bedroom which gradually gets brighter and wakes me up in the morning. Also I’m not a teacher any more so I’m a lot less grumpy every morning!

SrSteveOskowski · 04/03/2019 22:59

I never have, but I'm liking the sound of it. I'm going to give it a go now tomorrow Smile
