Just been asked on another thread about music and came to think of this one. Guess it is fairly unknown because it is Danish, but I think it is fantastic 😀.

Do you have any you want to share?

Valerie June
She is an american sort of soul country singer. Has her own thing going on and an amazing voice.

DemonicEruption · 04/03/2019 22:38

@Whisky2014 Yesss Within Temptation. I saw them perform Mother earth live in November, it was incredible!

I dont know if Blue Period by The Smithereens counts, but I love it, and no one has ever heard of it.

Whisky2014 · 04/03/2019 22:48

DemonicEruption oof im jealous. I have seen them a few times but years ago. I really wanted to see them in Glasgow in November but it was a week before my wedding and thought I best not. Wish I did go though! Love Sharon!

I'm going to have to google lots of these now.

Not enough out there by Wendy Rae Fowler (Mark Lanegans' ex-wife), but I like what I've heard.
Also recently discovered Anna Von Hausswolff.
Could also suggest DakhaBrakha (though they've played Glasto so people may know them) and Folknery.

Discover your own music by streaming Triple J unearthed. You can choose what genre you like.
Spotify and Radio 6 are good at introducing new to you acts.

@RockysMa he was such an underrated singer, as his daughter is too. Gives me goosebumps to listen to Make it on my own !

mogtheexcellent · 05/03/2019 09:37

Ooh love a thread with new music to listen to. My contribution is Angel Olsen's 'My Woman' album. No one I know has heard of her but her gigs in the UK sell out.

Goodnight Texas-Railroad.... I love it. When it comes on when I'm jogging I feel I could run forever.

paisho · 05/03/2019 12:44

Great song and wonderful music video imo.

Butterchunks · 06/03/2019 02:10

Carina Round - fantastic singer songwriter

Hope and social - best band I've ever seen live

notacooldad · 06/03/2019 10:21

Another way to find our about new music is to look at your local gig venues and then search the bands on YouTube or soundcloud. Theres always loads if stuff on at The Academies or o2venues that would be hew yo you. I'll guarantee you wo t like everything but there will be done gems among them. Our city is Manchester so we have places like the Deaf Institute, Soup Kitchen , The Castle, night and day and 100s more!
You'll find something!

slug · 06/03/2019 12:30

Goat. I always bring out the most wild of my bad mum dancing when I go to see them live

Sigur Ros (as heard in every David Attenborough documentary)

I walked down the isle to this one

The Young Gods

And I love a bit of Public Service Broadcasting

Spitfire!
GeraldineFangedVagine · 06/03/2019 12:38

Anything by Lost In The Trees or I am Kloot!

IamPickleRick · 06/03/2019 12:40

Damien Jurado, particularly love Sheets and Rachel & Cali.
Captain Beefheart, Safe as Milk album.
Love John Grant and Father John Misty at the moment.
Tom Waits and Nick Cave are old standards, always great.

NicoAndTheNiners · 06/03/2019 12:41

Tessa Violet
Masie Peters
Pomplemoose
LovelyTheBand

IamPickleRick · 06/03/2019 12:42

The Violent Femmes are good too, but not that Blister in the Sun rubbish.

NicoAndTheNiners · 06/03/2019 12:43

Oh and Frazey Ford.

Also Young Adults (the Russian band, not the American one)

NicoAndTheNiners · 06/03/2019 12:45

@blompitude I like Townes as well. Frazey Ford's old band The Be Good Tanyas do an excellent cover of Waiting Around To Die.

Mustbetimeforachange · 06/03/2019 12:45

Frank Turner - the most famous person you've never heard of. Just brilliant. Bizarrely in spite of the fact that no-one I know has ever heard of him, he was only held off the number 1 album slot by The Greatest Showman last summer. Deserves a breakthrough moment.
Grace Petrie (heard on the FT tour recently)
Sunset Sons

ChristineBaskets · 06/03/2019 12:47

I am obsessed with Die Antwoord (South African hip hop) especially Yolandi. She's weird and beautiful and fascinating.

CarrieBlu · 06/03/2019 12:53

Alex Winston - the King Con album. Incredible artist, amazing live. This album is my go-to listening for driving on a bright summers day with the windows down!

FutureDays · 06/03/2019 22:52

@mustbetimeforachange brilliant choice Frank Turner is awesome, I've seen him quite a few times and he always puts on such a great show

GoodFortuneAttendThee · 11/03/2019 07:17

Thanks for mentioning Die Antwoord @ChristineBaskets ...what a revelation they are!
