What is biting me?

For the past two weeks myself, my dh and my eldest dd have been covered in bites, all over our legs and dd’s chest and tummy. They are raised white lumps with an obvious red tiny mark in the middle and are itching us so much!
I have googled and googled and can’t find an exact match! Just for some background, I live in a city no where near the countryside and both children were outside a lot last week when the weather was nice!
The itching is driving us all crazy!

Scabies, bedbugs, fleas.

aliasjoey · 03/03/2019 19:45

Did you have any birds nesting in the eaves last summer/autumn ?

gingajewel · 03/03/2019 19:48

100% not fleas and not scabies, I was really worried about bed bugs but I haven’t changed anything to cause bed bugs, can they just appear? Also dd doesn’t come in our bed so would she get them too?
No birds in our raves that I know of?

Legs/ankles usually means fleas.

gingajewel · 03/03/2019 20:00

We haven’t got any pets though and haven’t had any in the house, can you still get fleas?

OP posts:
TheHorseYouRodeInOn · 03/03/2019 20:00

Could it be a tick bite?

Baconislife · 03/03/2019 20:06

I think bed bugs

ALadyofLetters · 03/03/2019 20:06

Apparently fleas can lie dormant in carpets and then hatch out.

gingajewel · 03/03/2019 20:07

Just looked and it doesn’t look like a tick bite, thankyou though.

ALadyofLetters · 03/03/2019 20:08

This is a bit gross but you can check if it is fleas by walking around with white socks pulled up high and look for fleas jumping on. There is a test you can do with a lamp and a bowl of water too.

gingajewel · 03/03/2019 20:08

Does the pic attached look like a bed bug bite?

gingajewel · 03/03/2019 20:09

Aladyofletters can you get fleas if you haven’t got animals?

Si1ver · 03/03/2019 20:10

It looks like flea bites to me.

wigglypiggly · 03/03/2019 20:10

If you're all suffering I'd have thought it's something in the house, does your dd share your bed or been in your bed. Has there been an animal in the house recently.

gingajewel · 03/03/2019 20:13

No animals in the house, and haven’t had any in here and my dd doesn’t share our bed, also my youngest daughter doesn’t have any!

Have you been to a hotel or someone elses house, like pp said fleas like dormant and the recent warm weather might have activated something. I'd go to the doctor or pharmacist and see if there js some treatment, the itching must be horrid.

Valkarie · 03/03/2019 20:14

I would go to the doctor. I once thought I had flea bites for weeks, but it turned out to be an allergy. Antihistamine and identifying the cause cleared it up.

OhDiddums · 03/03/2019 20:15

If you're being bitten all over the body it could well be bedbugs. It's a contact bug, so very easy to get. Have you been on holiday? Travelled on public transport recently? Had anyone to stay? Stayed in a hotel? Brought any second hand furniture. Get pest control to inspect because if it is bedbugs it can quickly become a huge infestation that can take months to get rid of. I would er on the side of caution OP.

SlangBack · 03/03/2019 20:15

I reckon fleas.

Theonewiththecat · 03/03/2019 20:16

No one in your house has headlice do they?
When dd has had them, I've ended up with a few bites. 🤔

ALadyofLetters · 03/03/2019 20:16

They can lie dormant in carpets, or come in on furniture, rugs etc. Bites around the ankles are really typical of flea bites.

We have cats yet had a flea infestation a few years ago despite the cats having monthly flea treatments. They are clearly pretty tenacious creatures.

If you do have fleas get the flea spray from the vets. That plus hoovering like crazy will get rid of them.

OhDiddums · 03/03/2019 20:16

Definitely not fleas. Fleas only bite from the knee down as they can only jump so high.

gingajewel · 03/03/2019 20:18

Thankyou all for your replies, we haven’t been on holiday, uses public transport or been on any holidays recently! It’s so so strange!
My oh went to the pharmacy last week and he said they weren’t flea bites but I’m not so sure, but I don’t know where we could have got fleas from!
My oh is good to get and get into the doctors tomorrow......that’s a whole other nightmare hahaha!
