How long did your hotpoint washing machine last?

I have a hotpoint futura washing machine which came with my house. I absolutely hate it. It doesn't get the clothes properly clean, you can't set it up with a delayed start and worst it takes about 3 hrs to do a cottons load. I seem to spend my entire weekend focussed on feeding loads through the machine. I can't put a load on on an evening or before work during the week as it's going to moulder in the machine for ages due to the lack of a timer and long cycle length. I left a Bosch at my old house which was just a far better machine for my needs.

I've been hopeful it'll pack up soon so I can get a new machine with a clear conscience. but just dragged out the paperwork the sellers left us to get the model number so I can replace the mouldy door seal and it was only bought in 2013 Shock

Please encourage me with stories off these wretched hotpoint machines expiring age 6!

If it's been going since 2013 you're doing well (or not from your point of view!).
Mine lasted 2 years, almost to the day.
I now have a Miele. It is absolutely brilliant.

IWantMyHatBack · 03/03/2019 17:39

We had two, neither lasted more than 4 years.
Everything we had that was hotpoint needed replacing 3-4 years after buying, they are just so shit.

Id have Miele if I could afford it, but went for mid range Bosch which is doing fine after 5 years

bigbluebus · 03/03/2019 17:46

My last Hotpoint machine broke down so often that I was on first name terms with the lady who ran the lauderette and the neighbours thought I was having an affair with the Hotpoint repair man! When it broke down just after it's 5th anniversary (having been virtually rebuilt entirely in my utility room) it went straight to the tip!

Moorfields · 03/03/2019 17:47

I had a bosch which lasted for 11 yrs & the only reason why I got rid of it was the door fell off. It would have cost a lot of money to replace the door but the motor was fine.

MrsGarethSouthgate · 03/03/2019 17:48

14 years so far touches wood

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 03/03/2019 17:49

Six years? It must be the most reliable one they ever made. They were even shitter when they were built in the UK.

E20mom · 03/03/2019 17:49

15 yrs works perfectly

MustBeThin · 03/03/2019 17:53

I've had mine about 11 years, never needed to be repaired (touch wood) and it's still going strong.

Lovelydovey · 03/03/2019 17:54

Ours is six years old - with one new motherboard, 2 new sets of brushes and a new filter.

reallybadidea · 03/03/2019 17:55

Why not just sell it on gumtree and get a new one?

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 03/03/2019 17:57

We've had ours for about 8 years, still going strong. Our last Hotpoint lasted about 12 years. The tumble dryer was only replaced last year after a reasonable 18 years of service.

mysteryfairy · 03/03/2019 17:59

You’ve all given me hope the stupid thing’s days might soon draw to a close! I’m intending to replace it with a Miele but it just feels wrong to do so whilst it’s still functioning (at least as well as it ever has!).

In five years we’ve replaced the paddles twice at the cost of a fiver each time and now I’ve spent £15 on a door seal - it’s entirely possible I’ll unintentionally write it off whilst attempting to swap the seal!

My Hotpoint lasted 16 years and was still going strong (and had never had a problem) but I decided to upgrade as I wanted a quieter machine and a delay timer. I have a Siemens now and that's been going for 7 years (touch wood). I'm not convinced it'll last the distance like my old Hotpoint one did.

thismeansnothing · 03/03/2019 18:03

Ours lasted ten years. We inherited it with the house we bought so not sure how old it was then. And it never completely died on us. Just that for a silent washing machine it had got louder and louder

MakeItAmazing · 03/03/2019 18:22

3.5 years

I do 15 + washes a week

Just got a Samsung washer on Thursday and now my drier needs a replacement part!

tablelegs · 03/03/2019 18:39

11 years and we inherited it when we bought the house. Previous owner had bought it 5 years before she sold it to us so 16 years all in.

They don't seem to last as long now.

mineofuselessinformation · 03/03/2019 18:41

You could buy an old-fashioned timer plug to get round the problem of it having no delayed start.

LittleMissCantbebothered · 03/03/2019 18:55

8 years so far. Hoping for it to die soon as I want one with a bigger drum!

Praiseyou · 03/03/2019 19:04

My mother warned me about Hotpoints - she had a major issue with them.

She swears by Zanussi but my Bosch is going 11 years in a very hard water area without needing any repairs.

mysteryfairy · 03/03/2019 19:33

The timer plug idea doesn't work sadly as the machine then demands the attention of someone pressing the on button too at the critical moment! From perusing the manual I have found a few things I have been doing wrong for the last five years so will start following the instructions and see if that improves the cleaning performance at least

My Hotpoint lasted less than 3 years. My sister bought an identical one within a few weeks of me buying mine and hers lasted about a year. Never again.

Cailleach · 03/03/2019 19:41

About four years. Go for a Bosch - the last one my mother had lasted fifteen years.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 03/03/2019 20:13

I had a second hand Hotpoint Liberator. They were fantastically reliable and mine lasted years and years. The door once got stuck but that was it.

When it eventually stopped spinning properly I replaced it with a Bosch Logixx which I've had for fifteen years and is still going strong, although they are not built to the same standard now so I'm treasuring this one for as long as I can.

Stylinit · 03/03/2019 20:35

5 years, having been repaired once in that time as well. My friend’s failed in exactly the same way at exactly the same time as well.

Replaced it with a Bosch, which is wonderful.

CigarsofthePharoahs · 03/03/2019 21:37

Mine lasted 5 years. The door had a massive crack in the plastic and I think the pump went in the end.
We discussed getting it repaired but we were fed up with Hotpoint in general - we'd had a dishwasher and fridge freezer from them and neither had done well.
We now have a "Blomberg" which are part of Beko and it seems to be doing well. The only thing I miss is that my old Hotpoint used to let me pause the cycle and add stuff and n I'd dropped for the first few minutes of the cycle, which my new machine doesn't.
Still, this one doesn't come with the added risk of spontaneous combustion.
