Mothers of the disappeared is one of my favourites but Running to stand still is my funeral song. Controversially I quite liked Zooropa album

StealthPolarBear · 02/03/2019 20:15

Cry without weeping
Talk without speaking
Scream without raising your voice

MorticiaAddamsIsMyStyleGuru · 02/03/2019 20:27

My first U2 album was a tape lol
Under a Blood Red Sky. It gives me goosebumps every time I hear it. Still!

I have always loved Gloria and sing this with me, this is 40 😁
At least that is what I call it. 😂

However One Tree Hill is heaven to me. As a dyed in the wool atheist I believe that if there is a heaven, The Big Man will play this for me before he (probably doesn't) lets me in.

ApolloandDaphne · 02/03/2019 20:38

I fucking hate U2. No good songs in my opinion!

grafittiartist · 02/03/2019 20:41

Apollo!! How dare you :)

MoreProseccoNow · 02/03/2019 20:42

@MorticiaAddamsIsMyStyleGuru - that was my first album purchase too!

I still have CD's, but love the randomness of asking Alexa to shuffle songs.

Not many bands are on the go for almost 40 years. I saw the Rolling Stones last year & they were incredible.

Macaroonmayhem · 02/03/2019 20:42

This thread is great. I’m reading it and going ‘oh yeah, forgot that one - and that one..’etc etc.

For example - In Gods Country!

ApolloandDaphne · 02/03/2019 21:08

Soz. 😀

mammmamia · 02/03/2019 22:09

morticia 🙌🏻

Doilooklikeatourist · 02/03/2019 22:11

With or without you

StealthPolarBear · 02/03/2019 22:12

Bit whiney

StealthPolarBear · 02/03/2019 22:13

Does no one like October?

pineappleeyes · 02/03/2019 22:19

One is one of my favourites
With or without you
Streets have no name and angel of harlem
I love U2

CoperCabana · 02/03/2019 22:21

I agree with a previous poster - Love is Blindness is a tune.

I really like When I look at the World (I think it is called). It sums up my DH and how I see him.

I also love The Edge singing Van Diemen’s Land.

And Stay (Faraway so Close).

But I came to this thread because I had completely forgotten about Running to Stand Still.

Love U2. Just a shame about Bono being a twat as someone else said! Grin

UpToonGirl · 02/03/2019 22:26

stealthpolarbear love October!

MoreProseccoNow · 02/03/2019 22:39

I've got "40" on my brain now!

ivyjames · 02/03/2019 22:51

October is one of my favourites! And In Gods Country.
Also love Trying to Throw Your Arms Around The World, Spanish Eyes, Two hearts, and All I Want is You.
Love most of their older stuff. Wish I'd seen them live "back in the day"!

U2HasTheEdge · 02/03/2019 23:30

I pretty much love all their songs, it is hard to pick a favourite. Running to Stand Still is amazing for sure.

They sang Who Is Going To Ride Your Wild Horses when I last went to see them and it was amazing. Gone is amazing live too, totally underrated song IMO. Gone is going to be my funeral song.

I have been to every tour since Pop. All of them were just amazing. I have been a massive fan since I was 13 years old.

sweetkitty · 02/03/2019 23:41

I have the cassette album of The Joshua Tree, yes Bono is a year but hecan sing a great song

One
All I want is you
Stay
With or Without You
Sunday Bloody Sunday
Angel of Harlem

BartonHollow · 02/03/2019 23:43

I saw them on their Evolution tour which was mint but haven't liked really any of their new stuff since and the cost of their concerts is eye wateringly prohibitive now I think

Aren't they around or over £100 per head now ?

ZenNudist · 02/03/2019 23:54

They peaked with achtung baby imo. I see zooropa as an extension of that album. A bit like joshua tree and unforgettable fire go hand in hand.

'One' is my funeral song. I lived bono in that video too. Blush major bono crush when i was 15 and he was 35. Is he like 60 now?

I always like their slow ballads. Love is blindness, all i want is you, stay (far away so close), acrobat.

Friends ruined with or without you for me but id still kill to see them sing it live again.

I liked his on stage improvising and delivery on the zooropa tour. Went to see them come out of a giant lemon too!

VetOnCall · 02/03/2019 23:54

Oh I've found my people! I'm a life long U2 fan, I was completely obsessed as a teenager and although not so much these days, they'll always be my favourite band and I haven't missed a tour since Zoo TV when I was 12. I've now seen them live 18 times and counting Grin

Achtung Baby is my all-time favourite album, but I also love The Joshua Tree and The Unforgettable Fire.

Anyway, favourite songs... there aren't many I don't like but my old faithfuls are:

Love Comes Tumbling
The Unforgettable Fire
Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses
Ultraviolet
The Fly
With Or Without You
One Tree Hill
A Man and A Woman
Heartland
Slow Dancing
Stay (Faraway, So Close!)
Where the Streets Have No Name
Bad
Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me
Mysterious Ways
Pride (In the Name of Love) (R&H version)

I could keep going!

ZenNudist · 02/03/2019 23:56

My first u2 album was zooropa on cassette. I got everything else after that.

EachandEveryone · 03/03/2019 00:03

I still have a soft spot for Party Girl. It reminds me of been 17 and going out to proper music clubs.

Iamblossom · 03/03/2019 00:08

You're welcome. 😁
