Got an Email today from the school telling us about this creepy internet hack that tells kids to do stuff and scares them. I asked if he’d seen it and he said yes he had but it interrupted his video and got on his nerves so turned it off straight away. I told him to not pay attention to it if he sees it again and to inform me straight away. Anyone else’s kids come across it?

Hoax. It’s been around for a while now and keeps self perpetuating, just like one of those stinky chain mail letters.

Have a look at the article on Snopes which says that educating families about Momo has likely caused more fear than any actual, documented cases of it popping up and instilling terror during Peppa Pig or similar (the latter appears to be zero from what I’ve read).

If it’s at all helpful, we’ve multiple devices running child-related content in this house and the only verified sighting of Momo to date has been on the Daily Mail.

It's a fucking horrible picture. My 4 year old would be petrified if that picture popped up on the screen. I got rid of kids YouTube a while ago anyway as I noticed there was weird shit randomly in videos. Great whites jumping out the water for example. It's Netflix or the nick jr app in our house.

It is a hoax.

The problem with this kind of stuff is the trolls and the hype created by the media. It's the distress images cause kids and the possibility that in the wrong hands this can be so damaging. Found a really useful guide online, it's all video and shows how to change settings in YouTube to make using it safer. www.spongyelephant.com/learn/stayingsafeonline/

I found it useful.

just to show how things go round, parents complained some years ago that the video of 'Firestarter' featuring the late Keith Flint frightened their children and the BBC didn't play it
