Please give some honest answers - trying to see if DS is the norm for his age.

OP posts:
PosiePerkinandPootle · 24/02/2019 08:42

My DS has just turned 13. He watches comedy box sets, Outnumbered, Bad Education, Friends. Also football (Match of the Day is on series record). Reality shows like I'm a Celebrity & Shipwrecked. The social media one think it was The Circle was a good demonstration for "do you see how easy it is to be someone else online" chats. If he puts a movie on it will generally be Marvel, Avengers, James Bond. If he's watching Lilo & Stitch or Monsters Inc I know somethings upsetting him or he's coming down with something

implantsandaDyson · 24/02/2019 08:45

My 11 year old watches Brooklyn 99 constantly. She also recently watched A series of unfortunate events, Anne with an e, Marvel Agents of Shield, Nailed it and bloody Marie Kondo.

She tends to dip in and out with films mainly Marvel and Pitch Perfect films.

HandsOffMyRights · 24/02/2019 08:46

Predominantly YouTube.

If not, The Big Bang Theory, The Apprentice and The Walking Dead (well, you did say to be honest).

Would answers from a DD the same age be of interest? Mine likes reality - I'm a Celeb, SAS: Who Dares Wins, Secret life of the Zoo, Bake Off etc
She watches quite a few of the factual series i like if I put them on - Hospital, Stacey Dooley
The odd boxed set - Friday Night Dinner was a huge hit.
Doesn't watch much on Cbbc any more, but still loves watching old Disney Films with her younger sister.Otherwise she watches shite on Youtube.

NC4Now · 24/02/2019 08:50

Mine’s just turned 13. Stranger Things, The Umbrella Academy on Netflix, Coronation Street, Bake Off, that one with Sheridan Smith - Cleaning Up.

RitaConnors · 24/02/2019 08:50

Gotham
Riverdale
Once upon a time
Good place
Brooklyn 99 (over and over)
Fresh Prince of Bel Air
Timeless
Any David Attenborough stuff

Mine is a girl. She has to check Common Sense Media before starting something new and then report to us and then we talk about it.

Evalina · 24/02/2019 08:51

Our 12 yr old DS watches Outnumbered, A Series of Unfortunate events, Big Bang Theory and with us Friends and How I met your Mother. Interested to see what others watch..

Hellohappiness · 24/02/2019 08:53

12 year old dd doesn’t watch a single thing on tv and hasn’t done for years. YouTube and games only.

Newsername · 24/02/2019 08:57

My 11 year old watches Youtube makeover videos, TikTok videos, fresh prince, the walking dead, the apprentice, bake off, various tame horror movies on Netflix. She doesn’t watch many shows regularly unless I watch them.

theliverpoolone · 24/02/2019 09:00

My 11 yr old dd keeps asking to watch Stranger Things, as some of her friends do, but when I checked it out it's rated 15 so I'm saying no. She's also watched A Series of Unfortunate Events, and Sam & Cat. She still watches some CBBC programmes, but I imagine keeps that quiet at school Wink

Charles11 · 24/02/2019 09:04

My ds is 13 and watches documentaries specifically about wildlife and the natural world,
Fresh prince of bel air
Stranger things
Police camera stuff
Sometimes X factor/the voice type of programme.
Lots of films
He’s loves to watch horror, especially zombie films but I check them first.

Charles11 · 24/02/2019 09:06

Sorry, I don’t know why I misread your op to think it was 13!
At 12, he didn’t watch horror except woman in black but had seen everything else.

OnlyYellowRoses · 24/02/2019 09:17

Mine older ones who are 13 and 11 watch Sam and Cat, iVictorious, Thundermans and all those other crappy American ones.

They also like Percy Jackson, Harry Potter, I let them watch birdbox with me but I'd already seen it so knew they wouldn't be too scared.

Mainly all YouTube though

BibbityBobbityEars · 24/02/2019 09:30

Top Gear
Amazon version of Top Gear
Would I lie to you (his absolute favourite tv show)
Big Bang tHeory
Modern family
Outnumbered
Blackadder
Dragons den

SlinkyDinkyDoo · 24/02/2019 09:41

My almost 12 year old (DD though if that makes a difference) watches mostly cartoons - Amazing World of Gumball. Steven Universe. The regular show. Teen Titans.
Films such as How to train your Dragon, Lego Movie.
On Netflix we watched A series of unfortunate events.
BBC The worst witch.
Will occasionally watch a bit if bake off or Masterchef if we are watching it. No other terrestrial tv shows.
Youtube - watching other people play minecraft. Or funny cat/animal videos.

She is quite 'young' for her age e.g Harry Potter film 3 years ago too scary for her!

TheWoollybacksWife · 24/02/2019 09:44

My DS loves Duck Quacks Don't Echo.

He also watches Top Gear and Match of the Day. Apart from those shows he really only watches (Marvel) films and YouTube videos.

This time last year he was obsessed with the CBBC medical show with Dr. Chris and Dr. Xand.

ShowOfHands · 24/02/2019 09:54

11yo dd:

QI
Only Connect
Would I Lie To You
Room 101
Have I Got News For You

Roomba · 24/02/2019 10:31

Death Note (original anime series, not the crap film)
Hunted
Friday Night Dinner
IT Crowd
Father Ted
Doctor Who
Big Bang Theory
He was really into The Apprentice for a while but seems to have gone off it a bit now
Dragons Den
He's also got into watching odd episodes of stuff like the program where overeaters swap diets with undereaters (can't recall the name), rich kids live with poor kids, secret millionaire etc on Youtube

But mostly he spends hours watching Youtube videos of people playing Civilisation type games.

confusedofengland · 24/02/2019 11:15

10-year old DS:

Million dollar baby (all any other documentaries that poke fun at ridiculous people)
Small Fortune
I'm a celeb
Football and any sporty news
100K drop
Hunted
Secret live of four/five year olds
Dr Who
Films would be anything with Dwayne Johnson, Fast and Furious, Mission Impossible, Bourne Identity and all the Marvel films

MyOtherProfile · 24/02/2019 11:38

Nothing. He did watch Stranger Things but mostly YouTube videos.

lljkk · 24/02/2019 11:58

A lot of what they watch is what rest of us watch (we actually only have one telly).

DS is just 11yo & today watched Chicken Run followed by Horrible Histories. Will happily sit thru Say Yes to the Dress or Police Interceptors, Young Sheldon, Brooklyn 99, My 600 lb life, nature/engineering/travel/history documentaries. House buying/building programmes, anything with Will Smith in it, cartoon films. Secret Life of 4 yr olds is huge hit, some elite sport events. 14yo brother watches mostly exact same things.

They both watch a lot of Youtube videos, crazy man gets stung by something horrible & describes the pain, people playing War Robots, that kind of thing.

BibbityBobbityEars · 24/02/2019 12:03

Oh yes forgot IT crowd and Father Ted - hugely popular
