Film for DD’s 7th birthday party?

Hi all,
Was wondering if anyone could recommend a film for me to show at DD’s 7th birthday party? Am doing a nail party and also pizza - 7 of her closest school friends coming (all girls). The girls are a bit of a mixture - some horsey, some sporty, some love animals, some into witches and vampires etc - all basically probably more outdoorsy and adventurous than into stereotypically “girly” things (wanting to have their nails done notwithstanding Wink)

Any suggestions gratefully received, as I drawing a mental blank......

My dd is a big fan of coraline. It's a little bit creepy but mostly an adventure she also likes miss perigrins home for peculiar children.

tinyvulture · 23/02/2019 12:37

Ooh, Coraline is a good idea - haven’t seen it myself but I read the book a long time ago - DD and her BFF would certainly love that (they are very interested in the gothic.....). I might have to check with the parents that none of the girls are of a nervous disposition - but from what I know of the girls I don’t think so!
Thank you so much for the suggestion! Any other ideas would be brill too.....

Dd also recommends:
9
Guardians of the galaxy
Alice in wonderland (live action)
BFG
DC Superhero girls movies
Fantastic Beasts and where to find them

Narnia was far too scary for my 7yold

BlueMerchant · 23/02/2019 15:23

Hotel Transylvania
Christopher Robin
Peter Rabbit
Coco

My pick would be Coco.

iloveredwine · 23/02/2019 15:26

my 9 year old was scared of coco and wouldn't watch it all the way through. loved secret life of pets, hotel Transylvania, the Lego movie, inside out, despicable me, the incredables.

Parent Trap (L.L's version)
Honey I shunk the kids
Jumanji

bongsuhan · 23/02/2019 15:40

Moana

ZenNudist · 23/02/2019 15:44

Greatest Showman

Also went to see nutcracker and the 4 realms at cinema at Christmas would recommend for all ages if its out by then.

tinyvulture · 24/02/2019 08:01

Ooh, thanks - loads of brilliant ideas here! Some we LOVE but have already seen loads of times (Greatest Showman and Moana especially). But I might make a list of some of the others, tell her what they are about, and let her pick.... Jumanji sounds like a good idea - I teach upper primary age kids, and I remember my kids raving about that when it came out......

My dd watched Matilda so many tines between the ages of about 4 and 10 that she wore the dvd out twice!

Boss Baby went down well with my DD's mix of friends at her 7th birthday party

tinyvulture · 24/02/2019 08:28

Thank you! Inside Out is another one I’ve always wanted to see.

Agree Boss Baby is great - I have never been so pleasantly surprised as when we went to the cinema to see that (I expected it to be rubbish), I’ll mention that one, but she’ll probably want one she hasn’t seen.

It’s slightly harder because i’m separated from her dad so don’t always know what she’s seen with him - they do watch quite a lot of films together. But the list I’ve made from your suggestions gives a great starting point!

Hairyporker, just read your suggestion - to be honest if I have her an outline of the plot I think she’d be desperate to see it! Grin

Spider-Man into the spiderverse is excellent.

DippyAvocado · 24/02/2019 08:33

Peter Rabbit is good fun. My two DDs (5 and 8) have different taste in films and they both enjoyed it.

coolwalking · 24/02/2019 08:42

Don't show Harry Potter - great films but most parents I know want their kids to read the books first.

PunkAssMoFo · 24/02/2019 09:07

In addition to this mentioned, my nearly 7 year old likes:
The book of life (like coco, but less emosh)
ET
Freaky Friday
Disney’s Descendants
Beethoven
Madeline
Annie

IncrediblySadToo · 24/02/2019 09:15

Not Coraline. Definitely not.

Inside Out was boring.

How about something a little retro...Stuart Little, Chipmunks?

SuperPixie247 · 24/02/2019 10:37

The Book of Life is AMAZING. 100% recommend.
