“Currently unmortgageable in its current condition”

OP posts:
Binglebong · 22/02/2019 21:48

If I had the money and skills I'd grab it.

AssassinatedBeauty · 22/02/2019 21:51

Its a great building. If I had the money and the time/ability I'd snap it up.

LooksBetterWithAFilter · 22/02/2019 21:52

It’s in a good area though it is an absolute gem if you have the money and the skills to do it up.

Myusernameismud · 22/02/2019 21:53

I dunno, I love a fixer upper but the amount of leaks and damp in that place is unreal. And it's listed, so presumably it's harder to just crack on and fix stuff.

I'd take it for 100k 😂

doodlejump1980 · 22/02/2019 21:56

I’d love to do I myself, but don’t have a spare £175K+ to make it mortgageable though. Sigh.

OP posts:
PatchworkElmer · 22/02/2019 21:57

DH says he’d buy it if we could afford it.

I’m not normally a ‘woo’ person, but I’m feeling a bit creeped out by the house, and I don’t know why? We’ve renovated 2 houses ourselves, so it’s not the condition per se...

FlyingMonkeys · 22/02/2019 22:21

Aww, I feel a bit sad looking at it. Definitely seems an older person was struggling on there with no central heating and all the damp.

BartonHollow · 22/02/2019 22:26

Love a Rightmove thread keep them coming

I almost started one about the hideous interior design in Ryan Giggs' gaffe but thought I'd get stick from the holier than thou types

Clawdy · 22/02/2019 22:27

How are people getting the link? Can't see it.

Supergrassyknoll · 22/02/2019 22:50

fuckinell I can smell it through the pictures

madeyemoodysmum · 22/02/2019 22:59

Oooo it gave me the shivers. I don’t like it. I think it’s haunted

madeyemoodysmum · 22/02/2019 23:00

Exactly patch work!!!

ThatLibraryMiss · 22/02/2019 23:09

I thought an older person and neglect but look at the colour of the family room. It's quite modern. It feels more like someone younger but not coping.

Poor house. I think it could be a lovely family home. It might take more than doodle's extra £175k to do it, though.

I think it needs £100k spending on it to bring it up to proper scratch, so you want £275k free and clear, less if you do a lot yourself. I could do it, but I couldn’t cope with the drop in temperature from the south east and the increased rain.

I keep seeing amazing properties in Scotland, but it’s just too bloody cold!

Jinglejanglefish · 22/02/2019 23:20

Is the second pic the kitchen? I can’t figure it out

Jinglejanglefish · 22/02/2019 23:21

Sorry fourth pic

ThatLibraryMiss · 22/02/2019 23:34

I have no idea of prices but I reckon it needs

  • The roof over the bay sorting out
  • The ceiling in the living room making good
  • Double glazed windows, and they'll have to be sash ones to keep the look of the listed house
  • Rewiring
  • Possibly re-plumbing, depending on the age of the pipes
  • Central heating
  • The conservatory off the half-landing demolishing and taking away
  • The kitchen walls plastering
  • A new kitchen
  • A new bathroom
  • All the damp damage making good, which may include a new roof and/or replastering
  • Possibly a second bathroom in what's currently the smallest bedroom
  • New flooring throughout
  • Painting inside and out
  • New curtains, which won't be cheap given the size of those windows
  • The gardens, front and back, fettling

It's certainly A Project but I really think it could be gorgeous. It doesn't feel creepy at all to me, just unloved.

ThatLibraryMiss · 22/02/2019 23:35

Jingle, yes, the fourth pic is the kitchen. There's a little caption in right side of the dark bar at the bottom of each photo.

jomaIone · 22/02/2019 23:36

It makes me sad. I just imagine a lonely 80 odd year old man living there alone in his former family home. Not coping at all since his wife died 20 years ago and he hadn't the money or the sense to manage and maintain that big house. It's awful really if that's the case! See it so so often in my job. There is even still his shower gel and flannel in the bathroom 😥

bridgetosomewhere · 22/02/2019 23:49

I knew it would be this house when I read the thread title. I was looking at it the other day and pondering could we do it up!!!

Then I read the home report and sentences like "can see daylight through the roof" sort of put me off!!

Every single box was a grade 3 (immediate action) so I reckon it could swallow £200k easy.

It's a lovely road though - we like that area - and someone will have a lovely house at the end of it.

QuestionableMouse · 23/02/2019 00:02

I bet it'll end up soulless flats.

Kernowgal · 23/02/2019 07:24

That's exactly the kind of house I'd love. It's a great house, could be absolutely beautiful. A bit big for me (and far away) but wow.

labazsisgoingmad · 23/02/2019 07:36

what a wonderful place i hope whoever buys it keeps the original features would be a shame if it was changed into flats

Kintan · 23/02/2019 07:40

I wonder what the story behind this is. It must have been neglected for a very long tine to get into that state, but clearly it’s been recently lived in.
