This still gives me the creeps

I worked in a nursery for 10 years with 2/3 year olds. Every few years, the room would obviously be full of a completely different batch of kids but the children would talk every now and then about a child called Thomas in the room and in the garden. Sometimes they’d talk about his red hair and describe what he looked like when asked. They obviously had very limited vocabulary so they couldn’t have possibly managed to consistently teach this to new kids in the room every few months. The building we were in used to be an orphanage so they must have all been able to see someone us adults couldn’t.
Still creeps me out.

Share your stories of creepiness with me! I’d love to know

I love these sorts of threads because it's fun to spot the rational explanations behind the woo. The children will have picked up on "Thomas" from the adults in the room. It's a regular thing where a child says something random and an adult attributes creepy meaning to it. Then another child says something random and an adult links the two and decides it's confirmation of the creepy meaning. Then adults discuss it without realising who's listening or ask leading questions to confirm their creepy theory ("I saw a boy!" "Ooh what did he look like? Did he have red hair?" "Yeah!")

The story gets embellished and before you know it it's turned into the children talking to red haired Thomas when really it was one child pretending to talk to someone (normal play), and another pretending to talk to someone, and bit by bit the adults turn these imaginary someone's into Thomas with red hair and chuck in the orphanage background as some sort of extra proof.

MYSTERY SOLVED! 😂

I was on holiday, sitting on the floor about ten feet away from the CD player and pile of CDs.

All of a sudden, the CDs flew across the room, one by one, and landed at my feet.

I was only 15 and my parents had gone out for a walk. I was so terrified I could hardly breathe.

Lightofday · 27/02/2019 15:51

I actually could easily believe every word of that wood walk story as I had my own exp with 'evil' (shadow figure) as it were. You just know. I think it's probably innate. Hope I never feel a terror like that again. I'll not share it this time as its long and still gives me the wigs to even speak of.

Pity we can't always sense it in humans the same way as there's a lot more chance of running across them than things that go bump on the night.

RhymingRabbit · 27/02/2019 15:55

@Lightofday

What venue did you work in? I worked in venue in Glasgow about 20 years ago that sounded similar (without the karaoke). It used to be a court and the nightclub and cellar was where the cells used to be. Most staff HATED going to the cellars and one night in the club a bottle of gin just exploded. We were all more than a little bit spooked.

Lightofday · 27/02/2019 16:00

It was most recently called mansion house, its on glassford street. Closed now though. Some of my colleagues hated the basement but it never bothered me. Just the wee bar n karaoke room area whenever I had to be on my own there.

Was just reading the original 'Mr glassford' was heavily involved in the slave trade and had a mansion on glassford st. Makes me wonder if they had slave quarters...

I love woo threads!!

Favourite stories (in no particular order):

Savernake Forest Housesitter

TheGreyLady (I think that’s the poster) seeing her NDNs daughter all jaundiced in the garden after she’d died.

The teacher who passed a pile of toys that wasn’t there a minute before.

Somebody going down to the hospital basement in the lift and coming across a WW2 scene.

I’ll probably think of more 😁

Peachyx2505 · 27/02/2019 16:55

At work, we have numerous residents describe the same man. He's always wearing the same hat/coat and only appears around a week or so before someone dies. It's always on the same two corridors. After 10 years of residents saying this, I believe they feel or see something.

littleV58 · 27/02/2019 17:07

Oooooh I love threads like this!

We were wanting to move house a couple of years ago. Went to look at this lovely house in the country. It was beauty of, but not for my. My husband loved it, but I think he loved it because it was better than our house. It wasn't a family home and that's what we needed. Anyway, we walked into the master bedroom and I felt like I'd just walked into a room with a hundred people in and I could not move. It was the most bizarre feeling ever, I felt really really squashed and it was horrible. The minute I walked out of the master I felt relaxed again. I wish I'd found out if anything had happened there. I'm convinced someone died there and didn't want us to buy the house. DH thinks I'm mad 😂

storminabuttercup · 27/02/2019 17:22

Not woo but about 18 months ago we stayed in Kingston upon Thames, I’m sure it’s a lovely place but from the moment we arrived to leaving the next day I got this awful feeling, even looking at the phone booth art display which I like so much on pictures couldn’t shift this feeling

RhymingRabbit · 27/02/2019 18:39

Someone waaaaay up thread mentioned a woo story about a guy in a nightclub. What was that story???

FuerzaAreaUruguay · 27/02/2019 18:51

I had a necklace with several charms hanging from it. After a severe bereavement I threw it out in anger. And I mean, threw it out, went in the bin and the bin liner went in the wheely bin, wheely bin got picked up.

About 4 years later, it was laying on my bedside table one night when I went to bed.

Whocansay · 27/02/2019 19:22

My mum dies 5 years ago. Every now and again I will feel someone sit on the bed next to me. I know it's her. It's not horrible though. I find it comforting.

I'm not usually woo at all.

I loved the savernake forest story, I have read I several times. I'm convinced the OP was an amateur writer or something because they wrote that so well. I'm not sure if I believe it though 😂

Mummatron3000 · 28/02/2019 07:47

@shadylady53 I’m intrigued, I’m from Fife but can think of multiple places starting with those letters - can you give me some clues?? Grin

Drogosnextwife · 28/02/2019 07:47

@Lightofday

You have to tell us now!

HankNPat · 28/02/2019 08:06

RhymingRabbit, this is the guy in the nightclub story (not mine, I've just C&P the post from another thread)

In the late 1970s/early 1980's the place to go was TOTS (Talk of The south), which was a Disco in Southend on sea.

We used to go every week.

I started to notice a young man with blond hair. He was always alone and always stood not far from the bar. I would catch his eye and he would stare back but it felt very uncomfortable. He didn't smile back which was very odd as back then I was a gorgeous young thing! ;)

He was there every week and although I was having a riot of a time with my girl friends, I did start to look out for him. No one else appeared to notice him as we were all having such a great time.

He was always dresses the same in shirt and trousers. He wasn't fashionable but he wasn't unfashionable. He was good looking and had a very clear complexion and wavy blond hair.

I chat to anyone but I always had the feeling of being fearful of him and not to approach.

I suppose I just got used to seeing him there.

Fast forward nearly twenty years later and my disco days were long over and my then partner who was in the music business told me that he had to meet someone at the former TOTS. I think there was a name change and instead of a disco it was now a nightclub.

I decided to go with him to see how much it had changed inside.

We got there and off he went to meet this chap, it was only a quick chat.

I strolled around, feeling rather out of place amongst the pretty young things and then wham! Straight in front of me about ten feet away was the boy/man I used to see all of those years ago!

Everything around me seemed to fade away and I could not tear my eyes away from him. He was angry, very angry I could feel his anger and I felt terrified. I was fixed to the spot and I cannot find the words to describe just how petrified I was.

I felt as if I was in grave danger. This young man, perfectly ordinary looking was exactly the same as I'd seen him before. He hasn't aged and his hair and clothes were the same.

All of a sudden, the world started rushing back into view and I could see and hear everything going on around me, I spun around and knew I had to get out of there as soon as I could. Thankfully my now ex had finished with the bloke he had to meet and I tugged on his arm to get us out of there.

I have no idea what or why I saw this young man and why he should be so menacing.

Another poster did suggest that a teenager had been run over and killed nearby but it doesn't explain why this presence would want to scare the crap out of me!

He was so scary because he was so normal looking and whatever it was about him had the power to give off the very strong vibe of anger and danger.

Grace212 · 28/02/2019 08:59

@VeryFoolishFay

when the lady said she could see a girl watching from the window, wouldn't you automatically look to the window? I know I would. If nothing else, I'd be wondering if DD had bunked off school! So did you decide not to look in order not to indulge her, as it were?

BertrandRussell · 28/02/2019 10:08

It’s interesting how often people who have spooky things happen to them are excellent writers but never have their phones with them!

Lightofday · 28/02/2019 10:55

I think when the whole gut reaching thing happens, especially in a 'this thing is angry and means me harm' feeling situation there's no way you'd have the nerve to take a photo. It would put something in your line of sight between you and the thing and that's not something you would do if say, a pissed of rhino was ten feet from you is it? I mean I know there are a lot of fools that might consider it xD but most ppl just try to get away.

RhymingRabbit · 28/02/2019 11:07

Thanks @HankNPank

Dowser · 28/02/2019 11:10

First husband was very psychic. Hesaw all sorts in the house I still live in.
Three children in old fashioned dressy and a dog. Woke up after a nap on the sofa to see lots of people in old fashioned dress in sepia all lined up.
I did some research we live in the garden of a much older house. They used to host garden parties for charity. I reckon he’d seen them line up for a photo

Lots of stuff like this, Ive seen nothing and my house has a nice atmosphere

Shookethtothecore · 28/02/2019 11:11

I am unexpectedly pregnant with dc3. It’s a huge shock as anyone who knows me knows I m very vocal with 2 being my lot and I was done. Contraception failed so here we are.
An old family friend messaged me last week. I havnt seen her since September last year. She said she’s sorry this is odd but she keeps getting a very strong dream that I am pregnant, and have a baby boy called Calon.
Which is the name in my mind I was calling “him” to get my head around it. There is no way she would know. Only dh and I know and she lives the other side of the country to me

BertrandRussell · 28/02/2019 11:11

“I think when the whole gut reaching thing happens, especially in a 'this thing is angry and means me harm' feeling situation there's no way you'd have the nerve to take a photo.”

Agreed. But things like that amount to a tiny minority of supernatural reports. What about all the others?

SmashedMug · 28/02/2019 11:17

There is no way she would know

People guess things all the time. We don't remember the incorrect guesses because we don't place value on them.
