If you could un-invent anything...

What would it be?

I would say plastic. in general anyway, i would like to keep the tv! My house is full of it. Every product i buy is wrapped in it and it is going to be around for hundreds of years. It bothers me more and more.

Sometimes i would like to invent the internet - it doesnt mix well with teenagers all the time.

And takeaway coffee sometimes gets my goat!!

Any others???

Leaf blowers and loud gardening equipment. We survived for many years with the quiet and gentle approach to gardening, which made it a relaxing job or hobby, now everything has to be blasted into oblivion, eardrums included.

I think farming is a good one. It led to settled communities and surpluses and the human population has grown to where it is now, on the verge of destroying the planet.

Soubriquet · 23/02/2019 06:44

I don’t think you can say farming really.

It’s been happening for millennia.

Ok yes it used to be several small holdings instead of the big mass farms we see today, but it has always happened

Even before biblical times

Alcohol

I drink too much of it, it makes me fat, it contributes to a lot of antisocial problems.

Sleepyblueocean · 23/02/2019 07:53

Unnecessarily noisy motor vehicles especially the bike that rides around our village roads for hours.
Music in cars that is so loud that you can hear it in your house above your own music with the car windows and your windows shut.

I wouldn't ban plastics or the Internet or cars for personal use because they give my disabled son a decent quality of life.

Patriarchy. Any form of discrimination.

Curious about those looking to uninvent tech and the Internet. Do you remember life before it?

HopeClearwater · 23/02/2019 20:39

Do you remember life before it?

Yes, because I’m getting on for 50.

I’ve wasted hours and hours and hours on the internet since the 90s. Doing it right now Sad I used to read loads of booksevery year. Listened to lots of music. Even my aimless pottering usually resulted in something useful being achieved - something cleaned or tidied or binned, or sone kind of decision made.

@HopeClearwater I'm in my 60s and used to be far more productive pre internet - I came very late to tech, and am now addicted!

Yes, I remember life before the Internet Hmm.

We had it from me being 12 but it was dial up and we were charged for how long we were on it so I had limited access.

My life has deteriorated as the connections got faster, the price got lower and iPhones/iPads and laptops became commonplace. I can’t limit my time, addicted and I’ve lost years of my life to it.

I cannot see anything that it adds to my life and I can see a lot of damage that’s been done through the Internet.
