Good morning. I may need to splash out on a new machine soon. I'd like to spend under £500.00. Nothing fancy. 1400 rpm, half load, 15 minute programme etc. Doesn't need a tumble dryer incorporated.

What do you suggest, please, and are there any brands you'd avoid for any reason ?

My current machine is an Indesit, about seven years old and reconditioned when I bought it. It doesn't owe me anything but I'll see if it's worth repairing first.

Thankyou.

PS. I'd love an old Hoover Keymatic like my Mum had 40-plus years ago but it's not going to happen !

Not a Bosch. Never, ever, ever again. World's most hideous washing machine. I'm praying for the day it spins it's last, irreparable spin and I'm thinking Hotpoint next.

ems137 · 21/02/2019 11:25

I'm not that keen on my Samsung eco-bubble. I really wish I hadn't listened to the sales person when I went in there wanting a Miele.

It's one of those with the mini door you can open to add stuff during the cycle but what happens is all the scum and muck collects in the seals of the mini door. There's no half wash button so if, like last week, you want to wash just a pair of trackies because of stain potential it WILL NOT bloody spin them!!

IndigoSpritz · 21/02/2019 18:23

Anyone else ? I'm considering AEG but I'm waiting to find out if my Indesit is repairable.

Indesit too expensive to repair. New machine time.

Don't touch anything from Hotpoint/Whirlpool.... their customer service is shockingly bad.

We've had AEG, Miele, Bosch and Hotpoint over the years and the best machine we've had by far was a £300 Zanussi. Last one made it to 5 years doing at least 2 loads a day and we loved it so much we replaced with the same model.... this one is currently 4 years old. Has a 1400 spin, 8kg load, 30 minute and 20 minute cycles and it's quiet. We've also got a matching tumble dryer that's been just as good.

Jimpix · 25/02/2019 14:07

We love our Samsung eco Bubble! We didn’t have a minutes bither with our last one which did 8 years of heavy use. We’ve just ordered another to replace it.

Moondancer73 · 25/02/2019 14:16

Bosch, every single time. Basic, solid and dependable. No fussy bits, nothing over fussy. Failing that a Miele.

IndigoSpritz · 25/02/2019 14:29

Hotpoint is an Indesit brand nowadays. My last two Indesits have been fine so I'm not rejecting HP just yet. AEG look nice but it's just the name Electrolux uses now. Cost more as well. Decisions...

Samsung Add Wash.
Dh was very much of the opinion that the add wash door was a gimmick, however, it's a feature thats in use constantly.

The 15 minute wash is also really good.

SilverySurfer · 25/02/2019 14:38

I've had my Whirlpool going on for sixteen years but live alone and tend to only do a couple of loads a week.

Millipedewithherfeetup · 25/02/2019 15:27

My last machine was a candy...I really loved it ! 14 /30 min quick washes etc...I changed it when my kitchen was redone as it looked shabby although iy worked fine. Could not get the same model so went for a hoover it has all the features I wanted slim line so it does not jut out from the worktop has 14/30 quick wash but also has a 60 min daily wash that washes at 60 degrees and gives a full 1400 spin really pleased with this machine I would go as far as saying just as good as my candy if not better.

NanooCov · 25/02/2019 17:10

Watching with interest as we're in the market for a machine with a bigger capacity. Bought current LG when single and have since married and had two kids so need something bigger as we have to currently run it at least once a day during the week and at least twice a day at weekends to keep up with backlog of washing. And I'm not the type to wash towels after each wash etc after single use so it's really the machine's capacity which is an issue. I would have said LG as ours has been good but recently sprung a leak (small and manageable currently) which engineer has failed to trace and remedy so I wouldn't now. We're thinking Bosch or Miele. I have a Bosch condenser dryer and it's been great.

IndigoSpritz · 25/02/2019 17:42

Hoover is now a Candy brand so any machine with a Hoover badge will be made by Candy.

I've opted for a new Hotpoint 6kg 1400rpm model. Being delivered late Tuesday afternoon from a local supplier. Fitted and working plus old machine taken away for £299. I think that's slightly less than some of the national retailers.

Miele would have been super but way too pricey. This Hotpoint will be used a maximum of three times a week so should suffice comfortably.

Hi. Mine died on Friday and have spent far too long staring at sodding washing machines. I needed one which could do a sensible amount in around an hour. Some of the programmes can take three plus hours! I've opted for a Grundig. They sell them in Currys and it does a full load in forty minutes. Was under £400. Getting it on Weds so fingers crossed.

Angelinthenightx · 25/02/2019 18:49

I have a candy its about 6year old, i do alot of washing so this make does last.

IndigoSpritz · 25/02/2019 18:50

Good luck flyingarcher. Mine would have cost about £150 to repair - I decided it was too much as the machine was already reconditioned and over six years old anyway.

I never knew Grundig made domestic appliances. I wonder if it's just the Grundig name on another maker's machine ? Badge engineering is everywhere now.

Ebac!

British made, and depending which model they come with a 5 or 10 year warranty!

I paid £480 for mine 2 years ago and I LOVE it.

Also whatever you go for get brushless - so quiet!

ozymandiusking · 25/02/2019 18:55

We have a Samsung eco bubble it really is very good. There is a 1 hour long daily wash programme, a 15 minute wash, which are very useful.
I think it was about £ 300.

poorpaws · 25/02/2019 19:00

Not AEG mine was rubbish and failed within a week of the guarantee running out. Tried to get it repaired but the repairman said it was the biggest, most expensive piece of gunk he’d ever known.

Miele for me always! More expnsive than you want to pay but worth every penny and more.

IndigoSpritz · 25/02/2019 19:51

Looks like I dodged a bullet with the AEG !

I'd never heard of Ebac until half an hour ago. I've looked at their website - quite impressive, British-made etc. White Knight are made in the UK too. Amazing how one becomes an expert on white goods when the need for a replacement comes up.

OP posts:
Flyingarcher · 25/02/2019 19:54

Oooo. Never heard of Ebac. Bugger! Grundig are brushless and are different in look to other machines. It does look like a casette player with brushed chrome buttons on white.

IndigoSpritz · 26/02/2019 19:05

Delivered on time this afternoon. The engineer who installed it had a female apprentice with him, which was nice to see.

I've just bought my 3rd Hotpoint. What a massive disappointment. The cycle times are ridiculously long. Despite the time shown on the screen as a lot less if you select half load, it still takes the same time as a full load. Loads that I could do in 90 minutes on ,my previous one are now taking 3 hours. A full load that used to take 2 hours now takes 4 hours. It's crazy. We've phoned their support and had an engineer out, but they claim it's working perfectly and the cycle times are merely estimates. Will never touch another Hotpoint after this fiasco.

Celticrose · 26/02/2019 20:55

I have an AEG which is 9 years and 6 months old. My last AEG lasted 10 years so may be in the market for a new one soon
