So ds2 (14) is on a school skiing trip. They went to a pool with flumes tonight and somehow he's banged his head and can't talk properly which is utterly out of character....

School staff have been amazing, he's been taken by ambulance to a regional centre for scans but my lovely boy is hundreds of miles away, going through scary stuff and I can't be with him. He had severe asthma as a child so hospitals aren't a new thing but not in a country where he doesn't know the language and doesn't have one of us with him.

I'm sitting here catching up on Masterchef while we wait for school to update us, trying not to be upset because I'm the one who doesn't do tears...

Anyone have any experience of this or things to distract me? Sad

Fantastic that it’s nothing more serious than his nose. I know that isn’t good either though. Hope it heals well.

I'm overly invested in his nose now! Hope he is ok.

What a relief to have him home with you, I can imagine the panic of getting that call. Awful. So glad he is safe.

how is he in himself? Is he laughing about it or is his nose bothering him?

Maladicta · 07/03/2019 00:35

He was the one who asked me to get an appointment which is very unlike him as he's Mr No Fuss Please.

Otherwise all good just frustrated at not being able to play rugby although he's back at most other things. Really hope we're told it's fine tomorrow as having to go back to scratch recovery-wise would be miserable.

Hope his nose is ok. There was an Interesting item on Radio 4's medical programme yesterday about concussion that you may want to catch up with. If you are at the hospital could discuss how long it should be until he plays rugby again.

Good luck!

Well I'm now very fed up with the initial GP registrar. He needs to have his nose reset as it's out of place and impeding his breathing so will need an op to do it Angry

It negates the need to worry about rugby as he definitely won't be able to play before the end of the season.

oh no, not good news.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 07/03/2019 17:00

Oh that's annoying about the nose, hope it doesn't ruin his good looks Grin

He exited the flume out cold with his nose bleeding heavily and didn't come to for several minutes, - sounds like he was lucky not to drown?

How awfully worrying but pleased he is at home with you. I would have been on the first flight out!!
