If you average it out
Inc bills holidays birthdays children’s activities like swimming etc

We’ve just worked out it costs us 4K a month

That's a lot.
Mine's closer to £1500. 3 kids.
My husband's salary just covers that, so I really need to get back to work.

MustBeAWeasly · 20/02/2019 22:08

1600 for me DH and one baby. We really need to cut it down but I'm lost

Flowersonthewall · 20/02/2019 22:08

Lard ours is similar to yours!

Arewehumanorbones · 20/02/2019 22:08

£1800

ooooohbetty · 20/02/2019 22:08

This is going to be a thread where some families have shitloads of money each month, some have very little and quite a few are in the middle. It means nothing.

Flowersonthewall · 20/02/2019 22:09

We are a family of 5

ScafellPoke · 20/02/2019 22:10

Between £800 & £1000 spent a month on everything except mortgage which is £1200.

nowifi · 20/02/2019 22:12

No idea, I wouldn't want to add it up as it will scare the life out of me!

I must be spending half my wages on stickers alone at the moment for DD. Grin

GoneFishingNC · 20/02/2019 22:12

Yep - ours is £4k per month too - includes DH pension contributions but not mine (self-employed), this is what we need to pay all outgoings and run our daily lives, before we can put anything into savings.
2 children, 1 school age but some childcare for both.

housewifeoflittleitaly · 20/02/2019 22:16

In total we spend £1400 on the essentials & save about the same each. The rest is saved for the kids or put in the fun pot for holidays or nights/days out.

Mumphineasandferbmadea · 20/02/2019 22:17

2000 a month me and three children. This covers rent and everything else.

Misty9 · 20/02/2019 22:22

About 3.5k for family of four with 2 school age kids. Probably more like 4k if including holidays though.

coffeeforone · 20/02/2019 22:29

Just over £4K for us too

BitchQueen90 · 20/02/2019 22:32

It depends really. Do you count non essential things (I get my nails and eyebrows done every month for example).

For just essential bills and food it costs £800pm for me and one DS. Adding on luxuries then it comes to about £1500.

RomanyQueen1 · 20/02/2019 22:37

It depends on how much you spend Confused. it's not cost me 4k a month as we earn nowhere near that much.

I suppose whatever you can afford and your priorities and personal opinion.

With some that claim to live like Kings on £900 pm while others struggle on 'only', £5k.

Turquoisetamborine · 20/02/2019 22:39

About £2400 for everything including food, petrol and all essentials such a repairs and clothes.

RomanyQueen1 · 20/02/2019 22:41

Barbaro

How long before the goats and the 8 legged chicken that feeds a family for 2 weeks.

Singlenotsingle · 20/02/2019 22:43

About £1000 pm. Plus food/grocery money of about £500.

YahBasic · 20/02/2019 22:46

Probably about 3.5k on average for me & DH. We don’t particularly live a frugal lifestyle and can afford it.

We are looking to boost our savings, so I reckon we can easily get it down to 2.8-3k.

Yippeee · 20/02/2019 22:46

£1500 for everything. But quite frugal eg no holidays.

Notcontent · 20/02/2019 22:53

Too much. I am in London and my mortgage alone is £2000 per month.

SmellTheGlove · 21/02/2019 08:07

I've just done a spreadsheet as hadn't done decent budget for a few years and our circumstances have changed. Depressed to find it came to 3.4k per month. Mostly on mortgage and bills (London). Hard to cut back on that - we don't eat out and weekly shop at Aldi. That doesn't include holidays. Fortunately our salaries cover it with a bit over to put in savings or for unseen expenses, but it's tight.

Exploration2018 · 21/02/2019 08:22

It depends on where you live. We live in the South East and our mortgage for a small 3 bedroom house is £1500. We pay
£600 on utility bills,
£250 car loan,
£800 on food and travel costs
£150 on kids lessons/clubs
= Approx 3200
We try to save a few hundred per month but invariably an unexpected expense happens with car/ house and we try to have a holiday each year and we have to use what little we have saved.
I can't believe we use all of our income each month just to get by. We don't lead extravagant life styles.
We are trying hard to cut back though by never eating out/ taking sandwiches and flasks on days out/ cutting down meat/ not going into town to avoid impulse purchases. We don't have fancy phones or gadgets either. I am sure we could do better though!

Lolly34h · 21/02/2019 08:27

Single mom 3 kids we live on 900 a month on benefits but I can't get a job cause my baby is little
