If you have long hair - do you brush it everyday?

Mine seems to get knotty very easily no matter how I dry it or products I use. I worry that when I brush it it breaks off.

Do you brush your long hair?

Yes of course, usually twice a day.

NotANotMan · 20/02/2019 19:15

Of course! It would look awful if I didn't

Myneighboursnorlax · 20/02/2019 19:16

I genuinely didn’t realise some people don’t brush their hair everyday...

Twice a day and sometimes again at work if it’s down.

Nacreous · 20/02/2019 19:18

Obviously yes. Every morning and usually then at lunchtime and then before I shower in the evenings. Otherwise it would be knotty?

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 20/02/2019 19:19

Always. My hair is to my waist and I brush it at least twice a day. It gets knotty easily and does break. I’ve got quite fine hair so have just accepted it.

NotMyUsualTopBilling · 20/02/2019 19:19

My hair is poker straight, really fine and doesn't tangle.

I usually just run my fingers through and use a brush if I want it in a sleek ponytail, brushing it causes serious static which is a pain in the arse!

Vividdreaming · 20/02/2019 19:21

I have almost curly hair so I only comb it when wash it. I used to brush it everyday when I was fighting against the wave but have some lovely balding patches to show for it.

nocutsnobuttsnococonuts · 20/02/2019 19:22

I brush twice a day and have tried many different shampoos/conditioners to find the right one for my hair. My hair is half way down my back, thick and prone to matting. I use Aussie.

My daughter (10) whose hair is nearly to her bum and has v thick and easily matted hair I use the tresemme keratin one (red bottle) have noticed a massive difference since using if she forgets to brush one day I can brush without it hurting. It's been a life saver as prior to using it she was considering cutting it as she hated having it brushed as it was in such bad condition.

Biggest tip though if you get knots start at the bottom get those out first and work upwards. If you start at the top you are just making bigger knots at the bottom of the hair.

RadElla · 20/02/2019 19:23

My hair is down to my hips, and I never brush it - in fact, I don't own a brush. I comb it with a wide tooth comb maybe every other day, but I mostly wear it in an updo or plait. If I wore it down, I would have to comb it more regularly.

CigarsofthePharoahs · 20/02/2019 19:24

I brush every day. I don't wash it every day or it would get very dry and unmanageable.
I find spraying on some coconut oil makes it easier to brush, especially when freshly washed.

Sinead100 · 20/02/2019 19:24

Nope! I have very thick, very wavy (not curly) hair. I wash my hair every second or third day, and only comb my hair when it’s wet straight after washing. If I brushed it lots between washes, it would be a ball of frizzy mess and I’d look like Hagrid from Harry Potter.

SoyDora · 20/02/2019 19:24

I wash mine every day so brush it after it’s washed.

Ribbonsonabox · 20/02/2019 19:26

Er.. yes several times a day! It would be a matter mess if I didnt. I use a Mason Pearson brush not a comb though. I have quite thick slightly wavy hair so a comb would break it.

lastqueenofscotland · 20/02/2019 19:27

My hair used to be nearly waist lengths and if I didn’t brush it several times a day it would get matted

TurquoiseWeekend · 20/02/2019 19:29

I thought it was just a given that everyone brushed/combed their hair every day.

MotorcycleMayhem · 20/02/2019 19:31

Yes - it's a given to me.

What do you wash and condition your hair with OP? Is yours straight or curly? How long is "long"?

DpWm · 20/02/2019 19:32

I brush every day but it's the washing that does the most damage. I wash my hair around every 10 days and use nutritious oil products that are leave-in.
I realise all hair types are different so this might not work for all, but I highly recommend reducing your hair wash frequency.

QueenGoblin · 20/02/2019 19:33

I rarely brush my hair

Lightofday · 20/02/2019 19:34

My hair is very fine and straight and tangles up after every wash. So I comb it through after each wash n then brush it when it is dry. But then I don't tough it again until the next hair was unless I'm heading out to meet ppl. Like if I'm just going to the shop then nah. So sometimes I'll go as long as 3 days without brushing it. Its flat either way, so 'that'll do' lol

Theonewiththecat · 20/02/2019 19:34

My hair is shoulder length. I brush it when I get dressed and tie it up for work, and then I brush it before bed.

If I've straightened it I comb it quite alot to stop it becoming a frizzy mess, and I like the look of it when it's just been combed and it's straight, But that's odd I know

cuppycakey · 20/02/2019 19:37

Christ no. My hair is long thick and curly, with ringlets. It would look like a dogs dinner if I brushed it whilst it is dry.

I wash it usually every other day and brush it through when wet so it doesn't have the chance to get matted.

kaytee87 · 20/02/2019 19:37

I brush mine a couple of times a day

madcatladyforever · 20/02/2019 19:37

I put mine in 2 big foam curlers one each side and finger comb the resulting curls otherwise I wake up looking like an actual hedge.

CrackersDontMatter · 20/02/2019 19:38

Nope. Mine is thick and wavy/curly. Brushing it is the worst thing I can do to it. It frizzes up like nobody’s business. I very rarely brush it. It’s down to my waist. It doesn’t get tatty or matted. I sleep with it in a plait, I have to wear it up for work. I think I’ve brushed it once this year and immediately regretted it.
