If you have long hair - do you brush it everyday?

Mine seems to get knotty very easily no matter how I dry it or products I use. I worry that when I brush it it breaks off.

Do you brush your long hair?

Of course. I brush and tie it up at night which helps keeping it tangle free.

erja · 20/02/2019 19:40

My hair was down to my bum and would get quite matted as I'd only brush it every 3 weeks ish and then would take an hour to sort out and I just don't have the energy. I cut it off to collarbone length last week! Grin

viccat · 20/02/2019 19:40

No, I rarely brush it at all. My hair is super straight, fine, and there's a lot of it - if I brush it, it goes really flat and looks awful, plus it's prone to static especially during winter if brushed.

My hair used to be nearly waist lengths and if I didn’t brush it several times a day it would get matted

GrapesAndCheese · 20/02/2019 20:07

I another static hair person so I probably brush my hair every other day.

Mine is also pretty straight and I can just run my fingers through it. However since I had DS 16 months ago I have all these new hair tufts growing through and they're curly.. so I usually just look like Einstein these days Hmm

BeckyButterworth · 20/02/2019 20:09

Same as some other posters here... waist length, curly, lots of hair and very strong hair. It's prob around 8-10 years since I've brushed it. I finger comb it while damp (towel dried) every day. Follicles are very thick, so don't tangle much.

Then finger comb in a blob of mousse/gel mixed together into the length (not top/scalp), put into a pony and let it air dry. Used to have frizzy hair for years no matter what products I used. With this method I just have curls, it's also the easiest hair care I've had my whole life. Hair done in under two min, and no split ends from brush/dryer.

BeckyButterworth · 20/02/2019 20:11

Oh and like Crackers I wear it in a plait every night.

SconNotScone · 20/02/2019 20:11

I have quite straight hair, it is thick and gets washed every other day (sometimes can stretch it an extra day). I brush it after I have washed it, then dry it and use GHDs to put a loose curl in it. That’s it until the next hair wash.

EdWinchester · 20/02/2019 20:11

Never, but mine is curly.

I realised by 14 that brushing my hair was all kinds of wrong.

Squickety · 20/02/2019 20:14

I only brush mine when it's wet after I wash it, which is every other day. It's long, straight and fine, and if I brush it it goes really straight and a bit fluffy. If I leave it it goes a bit more wavy and tangly, which I prefer!

zod1ac19 · 20/02/2019 20:16

Rarely to be honest, a couple of times a week maybe.

My hair is poker straight and i condition it which makes it silky. I regularly brush my fingers through it but rarely use a brush or comb. It’s a joke that you can’t knot my hair, if I purposefully put a knot in it it falls out.

The exception is if it rains, then it definitely needs combing.

SnuggyBuggy · 20/02/2019 20:16

I prefer a wide tooth comb or tangle teaser and I sleep with it in a French plait

theworldistoosmall · 20/02/2019 20:38

I use a wide comb when I condition it and in between washes I finger comb it. Wash it in the evening every four days and straighten it once in the morning after it's been washed. Get it trimmed regularly. Use paraben free herbal essence shampoo and conditioner. Bleach it when needed. Can do the hair pull thing and nothing comes out when my iron levels are in a healthy range. When it's tied up, again finger comb it and use a clip not a hair band as those rip my hair out.

lljkk · 20/02/2019 20:49

I'm a total scag & even I brush(ed) mine every morning (long or short).
Mine is super lush, fine strands but buckets of it (fairly straight). A lion's mane, really.
I only wash it once a week nowadays, though, super dry, I dislike it for being too fluffy after a wash.
Maybe you can get away without daily brush if other types of hair, I wouldn't know about curls or thin hair.

Doobigetta · 20/02/2019 20:58

Mine is below bra strap length. I brush it twice a day if it’s tied up, more if it’s loose. It would look like crap if I didn’t and get irretrievably tangled very quickly.

YesQueen · 20/02/2019 21:02

No, it's curly and I don't own a brush

Honeyroar · 20/02/2019 21:03

My hair is very straight and rarely knots. I only brush it superficially in the morning and bung it in a bun while dog walking and doing the horses. It doesn't take a moment to brush through it if I go out.

I went through a phase of it knotting a bit (think it was down to Velcro on a coat I used to wear doing the horses) and I used to use a mane and tail detangler for the horses on it to untangle it. It was superb!

halfwitpicker · 20/02/2019 21:05

At least 3 times per day

sue51 · 20/02/2019 21:10

I used to straighten my hair and comb it several times a day. Now I've been converted to the curly girl method and just comb it when I condition. I put it in a loose plait at night and run my hands through in the morning.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 20/02/2019 21:18

I do but I have long, thick wavy hair. So I wash, condition, brush and blow dry straight (as possible) because that’s what I like. Second day I just brush, looks good. Third day depends what I’m doing, could be just a brush or might need washing/drying/brushing depending on what I’m doing. DD1 has ultra curly hair so brushes before washing, washes and deep conditions, then doesn’t brush/wash til day two or else it looks birds nesty.

Wavyheaded · 20/02/2019 21:40

I have dry fine, wavy hair that is very prone to frizz and tangles. I brush it at night but in the mornings I never know whether to brush before I leave the house because there's a 50/50 chance I'll regret it! Sometimes after a brush out it's smooth and sometimes even frizzier! These days I just go with whatever it's doing Wine
