Where in the U.K. should we go?

We’ve got three kids (6,10 and 11) plus a dog. Oldest and youngest children have autism but no mobility issues. They enjoy nature and love being outside. We’re trying to decide on holidays in the U.K. where should we go? Would love a bit of nature and beaches basically being outside (though I know weather can be unpredictable). Any help would be hugely appreciated as we’ve only just started holidays as the youngest couldn’t cope before.

Bournemouth, Christchurch, mudeford?
Decent beaches, close to New forest, good for trip to Isle of Wight?

https://www.petruthpaddocks.co.uk/

We went here last year, dog friendly, lots within 30 mins drive, beach, hills, gorge etc.

You could book a pod to sleep in, to manage the dogs, kids chaos Grin

Nicely run site, short bike ride on paths to Tesco.....

For nature and being outside you can't beat the lake district but the beaches are awful.

They can paddle in the Lakes though.

Northumberland is stunning. Beaches are clean and beautiful (and much, much quieter than those further south). There’s castles galore, the Farne Islands, Kielder Forest. I’m from the area but have lived away for nearly 20 years. Last year we took our camper van up there and our 6 and 3yos loved it.

Wales. Anglesey area is lovely

pisspawpatrol · 20/02/2019 16:16

Norfolk and Suffolk good for lots of flat, open countryside and beaches.

The north east is very underrated too, beautiful coastline although considerably colder than Norfolk!

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 20/02/2019 16:16

Woolacombe. There's decent camping nearby in Mortehoe.

Chosennone · 20/02/2019 16:17

Peak District. Hathersage/Castleton would be a great base for outdoor walks, heated outdoor pool, caverns and caves. Lots of dog friendly pubs. No beach though.
Or
The Bay Filey is a lovely family and dog frie dly holiday park with direct access to the beach

BlueMerchant · 20/02/2019 16:20

Nothumberland- countryside, wildlife, forests, beaches and lots of history.

Bigdreams · 20/02/2019 16:21

Northumberland.

Snowdonia

Xenadog · 20/02/2019 16:24

North Devon. Beaches are amazing and some are dog friendly. Lots of camp sites, lodges etc available.

ginyogarepeat · 20/02/2019 16:27

Northern Ireland has stunning scenery - beaches, forest parks, castles....
You get the excitement of a short plane journey (or boat if preferred) and it's arguably better value than other parts of the UK. Come visit us!

theliverpoolone · 20/02/2019 16:27

Isle of Wight? (never been , but going this year so hope it's nice!)

DinosApple · 20/02/2019 16:41

Norfolk and Wales. I love Dorset too but it's a bugger to get to in the school holidays with half the world heading to the south west.

DinosApple · 20/02/2019 16:44

Pembrokeshire as a quiet- ish holiday destination was great, nowhere near the tourists or traffic of some other coastal beauty spots.

Justonedayatatime11 · 20/02/2019 17:08

Another vote for Norfolk

4point2fleet · 20/02/2019 17:13

I think it depends where you live. You don't want to be in the car for 6-7hrs with 3 kids and a dog.

Choose somewhere 2-3hrs away. Personally I'd prioritise good wifi so kids can have some downtime indulging in their interests and some days out that you know will be low-stress for everyone.

lyralalala · 20/02/2019 17:19

Cornwall. Perranporth is great, very busy in the height of summer though.

MillieMoodle · 20/02/2019 17:20

Pembrokeshire, love it! Miles of sandy beaches, plenty to do, coastal walks, castles etc.

greathat · 20/02/2019 17:58

Oh Isle of Wight is lovely yes @theliverpoolone one of the best UK hols along with our Wales ones

simonisnotme · 20/02/2019 18:12

south devon - paignton/brixham/goodrington good beaches + one for dogs. arcades and shops in paignton

froomeonthebroom · 20/02/2019 18:19

North Pembrokeshire. Poppit Sands caravan park is fab and the beach is amazing. Loads of dog friendly beach areas in summer too.

Petalflowers · 20/02/2019 18:21

Isle'of Wight - has something for everyone
