What car do you have?

Me and DH are looking at getting a new car. He wants a quashqai (sp?) and I've just gone along with it without even really thinking about other cars.

Neither of us need it for work and we currently have 1 DC but are thinking of having another in the next year or 2.

I do like the quashqai but want to consider others before we start looking. I'll have the final say (I think) as it's only me who can currently drive.

Jeep Renegade

trilbydoll · 17/02/2019 21:17

We have a 1.6 petrol Qashqai. It's nice, but underpowered imo. I used to have a cirtroen c4 and I preferred that, it was faster and the boot was amazing. However, it probably cost us more in the 3 years I had it than the Qashqai has in 5 years.

Mitsubishi Outlander phev. Hybrid electric car.

It's great size for my two kids and all they entail and with it being a hybrid I find I use mostly electric for the driving I do.

One of the best cars I've owned.

ineedtostopbeingsolazy · 17/02/2019 21:19

I have the 2017 qashqai tekna I love it.
Lovely to drive (though probably the same as lost cars as I don't have a clue about cars)
And it has really high spec I especially love the 360degree cameras

adiposegirl2 · 17/02/2019 21:20

Volvo xc90

Mummy2one2016 · 17/02/2019 21:21

Skoda Yeti 1.6 green line. It's a great runner and very low road tax at just £30. Plenty of boot space but also lots of space in the cab which was important for us it always both the front and back seat passenger lots of leg room.

Sirzy · 17/02/2019 21:22

I have a corsa which I love

My partner has an Audi A4 which is a fantastic drive

BMW i3 - fully electric. Had it 2.5yrs. Absolutely fabulous car but might change it for a bigger EV soon.

crummyusername · 17/02/2019 21:23

Some worries about qashai reliability - remember they're Renaults under the bonnet (I am an ex Renault owner)

I have Mitsubishi PHEV (bought used 1 year old from dealer), really lovely car but pricier than the nissan, worth a look if you have a driveway to fit a charging point

Was also looking at Skoda karoq and seat ateca (ateca is a bit smaller), both good makes

Sassy306 · 17/02/2019 21:25

I had a qashqi, didnt like it. Have a kia sportage now. Like it better but....dont get a 1.6 petrol, it has zero power. Also, if you will eventually have 2 car seats in the back and are likely to also need space for another bigger child or adult make sure you choose something that has 3 full seats in the back. Even the sportage is small in the back despite its size and the middle back seat isnt a full sized seat. Also if you have invested in a decent car seat make sure it is compatabile eith your chosen car so you dont have to fork out for a new seat :)

Patchworkpatty · 17/02/2019 21:26

Fiat500 will never buy anything else. Runs on petrol fumes, super comfy. Park it in spaces that no others can fit... and I love it.

DH has a Nissan Juke Tekna . Lovely car to drive and a bit more power than mine !

Whatdoyouknowwhenyouknownowt · 17/02/2019 21:29

Big van...with bed, heating & ace lighting! Lovely.

jellyshoeswithdiamonds · 17/02/2019 21:29

Volvo V90 Cross Country (it is AWD).

Thought I'd miss the ride height of my XC90 but it's fully loaded tech wise (auto pilot, adaptive cruise control) so it's far less stressful driving it.

I adore it Smile

Whatdoyouknowwhenyouknownowt · 17/02/2019 21:30

You might want to look at the similar sized Seats & Skoda's. The Ateca was lovely to drive but maybe a bit small for a family.

peachjuice · 17/02/2019 21:31

Fiat 500L. Generally seen as uncool but I absolutely love it. Really fun inside, everything's curvy and colourful. Eco leather. Huge boot with a shelf so you can put luggage on and under the shelf, loads of headroom for 6'2" DP, and a Beats soundsystem I can listen to music loud when I'm alone. Smile

It's quite nippy too.

Sorry for the Daily Fail link, but Chris Evans sums up my feelings about it www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.dailymail.co.uk/home/event/article-2412572/amp/Chris-Evans-reviews-Fiat-500L-MultiJet-Trekking-I-adored-sexy-little-Fiat-500-Im-love-big-sister.html

Boxlikeahare · 17/02/2019 21:31

Same as you jelly - love it.

Seeline · 17/02/2019 21:35

I have a qashqai - hate it. Seriously under powered. Very cramped in the rear. Very small, impractical boot. Poor visibility. Can't wait to get something different.

OhTheRoses · 17/02/2019 21:35

Hmm interesting thread. Looking to replace an SMax. Children are grown up so can go smaller. Thinking about Honda HRV, Volvo XC40, Ford Kuga and VW Tiguan. Think the first two are in the lead. Really like the volvo but it's expensive compared to the others.

Been v happy with the SMax but it's too big now and v worn (nearly 100k). Tyres have got about 6 months left in them and not replacing them again.

LittleBirdBlues · 17/02/2019 21:38

Ford S-Max, an old diesel (sadly). The car is brilliant, strong and with three proper seats and two additional ones in the boot. We have three kids under five so space is paramount. However, it's an old diesel. We have been researching something similar and newer but not having much luck within our price range...

Cornish83 · 17/02/2019 21:39

We opted for the humble Ford Focus simple cheap to run and can park it almost anywhere, we had a people carrier before but I actually feel we have more space now.

Believability · 17/02/2019 21:41

If you’re looking at the qashquai then seriously consider the Kia Sportage, fabulous car, similar price. Punches way above its weight

IWouldPreferNotTo · 17/02/2019 21:44

Currently an old diesel citroen c-crosser which is a large SUV and i love it. Will probably replace it with another large suv.

user1486076969 · 17/02/2019 21:46

Hyundai ix35 (now has new name?), now nearly 7 years old with 113,000 on the clock. MOT (& service tomorrow!), it's been a really reliable workhorse, so much better than the previous Volvo V70 T5, which I loved at the time.........

ifoundthebread · 17/02/2019 21:54

Currently have a 1.6 diesel qashqai, boot not very deep even with boards taken out, can fit 2 car seats comfortably in the back with a skinny 12 year old in the middle (car seats are rear facing giving older child elbow room, not sure how comfy she'd be with ff car seats) kids love the glass roof, 360° cameras are super helpful, generally an average car.
