Sharp stomach pains on right hand side for the past 24 hours. Help!

I went to bed last night and all of a sudden had a very sharp pain in my stomach on the right hand side. The pains have carried on happening all day today. It's sort of a twinge feeling but fairly sore. It's in the exact same place each time, the right hand side of my abdomen, in line with my belly button.

I hate to google this sort of thing so wondered if anyone has any ideas what could be causing this? Thank you.

Call 111 it could be anything.

MunchMunch · 12/02/2019 22:06

Definitely call 111. First thing to rule out is appendicitis, could be ovarian cyst, but I had similar symptoms with endometriosis (took a while to identify it as such). You need to be seen and soon, be prepared that if you go to Out of Hours they may well admit you to investigate.

PoliticalBiscuit · 12/02/2019 22:07

Should say, call 111. Could be your i appendix, gall bladder, constipation etc.

Do you have a temperature?

Frainbreeze · 12/02/2019 22:09

Could be pancreatitis too.

Fairylea · 12/02/2019 22:09

Could be anything from ibs to ovarian pain to appendicitis. Call 111.

December2018 · 12/02/2019 22:11

Might be ovulation pain, I used to get really bad pain on my right side and I found out I had a blocked tube
Hot water bottle always eased the pain a little

Lumene · 12/02/2019 22:12

Are you ok op? Did you call 111?

PFB2 · 12/02/2019 22:13

I don't think it's likely to be anything too urgent. I've not got a temperature and also don't feel unwell. The pain is coming and going so could not happen for half an hour and then happen again. It's not preventing me going about my day. It's just been so consistently in the exact same spot which made me curious. We live a 30 minute drive from out of hours and I don't drive. I've also got a 5 year old and toddler asleep in bed so I don't think a trip to out of hours would be practical tonight (although I would definitely go if I had any more symptoms). I know 111 are renowned for be over cautious so I suspect your right that if I ring them, they'll want me to go in.

I had this years ago, ended up in a&e the pain got that bad
It was constipation Blush

PFB2 · 12/02/2019 22:20

GiveMeAllTheGin oh no!!! That's the sort of thing that would happen to me also 😂 I have had a bowel movement so I'm guessing that rules out constipation? I was wondering if it could be trapped wind but would that cause pain like I've described?

I genuinely never suffer from any sort of stomach pains or cramps (not even with my period) this is a first for me.

Sounds like gallstones to me. Go to see your GP. They will refer you for an ultrasound & blood tests.

moanyhole · 12/02/2019 22:34

Could be any of the above or an ectopic. Any chance of pregnancy?

PeachRose · 12/02/2019 22:38

Trapped wind gives me pain like you have described. Maybe drink some warm water to let it loosen anything. Can you massage the area? This also gets rid of trapped wind. Be gentle though incase it isn't and if it persists then I would call 111.

GoFiguire · 12/02/2019 22:44

Is it your conjoined twin trying to get out?

I'm on the pill so I'd say it's very unlikely.

Gallstones is higher than that and flipping excruciating, I speak from experience. I could not go about my daily life in an acute phase.

Your appendix is on the right hand side of your belly button and a ‘rumbling’ appendix would fit the symptoms. You need to see your GP ASAP, you may need an urgent referral for removal before it becomes an emergency.

Oh god... I hadn't considered that a possibility! I hope not! Grin

If it's trapped wind, peppermint tea will sort it quickly.

bluebell34567 · 12/02/2019 22:53

definitely 111.

theoldtrout01876 · 13/02/2019 01:32

I had this at the end of October. It went from my stomach to my back, I figured Id done myself a mischief moving tree trunks for fire wood.
I went to work and popped motrin. They sent me home at lunch time, I still figured it was the wood thing.
Dh came home a couple hours later and made me go to A&E. I refused at first and called my doctors office instead. They said I was to go to A&E too, so I did ( just cos I didnt want it to involve going later in the evening, figured Id get it over with early)
I had a ruptured appendix, had it removed at midnight.
The pain by that point was awful. tho morphine is a wonderful thing
Get it checked out, I had no idea that a ruptured appendix could present like that, started off as stabbing pains

Interceptor999 · 13/02/2019 01:38

I despair why posters on a forum would ask strangers for advice instead of going to see their GP????Hmm

Gilead · 13/02/2019 01:41

Because sometimes people just want a bit reassurance, or a kind word or they’re waiting for the surgery to open rather than ring 111.

GoFiguire · 13/02/2019 06:40

And some people don’t want to waste a GP’s time over a fart.

What seems to be the trouble?

P. A.R.P... 💨

I’ll open the window on my way out, shall I?
