Diahhrea (or however you spell it) every day - bit grim

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 11/02/2019 12:31

I have diaorrhea (that looks more like it) every morning. It's been going on a for a long time ( a year plus) but lately it's been getting worse.

TMI, no doubt, but this morning I'd gone for several shits before 8am, including the last one which I had to sprint the last quarter of mile to work in mild panic to take. Then I'm fine for the rest of the day.

I've got a doc's appointment as I have finally decided it's time to see what's going on but it's not for a month or so.

Has anyone else had this and am I dying?

Have a read of this - might be relevant, particularly if you have had your gall bladder removed? The test to identify BAM is straightforward but its often missed.

Doesn’t It Always Run Rather Horribly Over Each Ankle = diarrhoea

Just a simple ditty for when you’re shitty.

Is it something you might be eating if it’s first thing in the morning? Is your coffee really strong?

sorry no help

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 11/02/2019 12:40

ah, thanks for that! So many vowels in one word...

To be honest it happens before I've eaten anything, I often get woken up first thing needing to go.

Still have my gall bladder, but will check out the link.

I'm like this a lot of the time OP, I have IBS.

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 11/02/2019 12:43

I did some googling and wondered if it was IBS. I guess I will see what the doc says. But it seems to happen no matter what I eat (actually it's often worse the more veg I consume).

I do a lot of shitting in the morning and also have IBS. Lots of things with similar symptoms though so your doctor should do blood tests to rule out other things.

BearSoFair · 11/02/2019 14:23

I instantly thought IBS especially when you said it's the mornings. I have IBS and get up 90 mins earlier than I should need to every day just to deal with the morning shits before getting ready for work. TMI, sorry! That's pretty standard for me on a normal day and I should be ok for the rest of the day. On a bad day, if I've eaten something I shouldn't have (citrus, egg, too much onion, seafood are my biggest triggers) it will last hours!

HermioneSnape42 · 11/02/2019 15:26

Yep me too. IBS. I have to go numerous times in the morning. Sometimes having to go within a few seconds of opening my eyes.

I’m trying my third lot of tablets as it started to take over my life. I couldn’t go anywhere and terrible wind which was extremely embarrassing.

Definitely go to GP OP.

KindergartenKop · 11/02/2019 15:48

Do you have a large mug of proper coffee every morning?

StandardPoodle · 11/02/2019 19:25

I find that if something has triggered my IBS my symptoms are remarkably like yours OP. Obviously get it checked out but perhaps also worth keeping a food diary?

Sinead100 · 11/02/2019 19:27

Try looking into Bile Acid Diarrhoea (BAD)...

Walkthroughthefire · 11/02/2019 19:27

Crohn's disease?

justasking111 · 11/02/2019 19:31

5cm sliding hiatus hernia, aci reflux, gall bladder removed which I think started the shits. I have been bad for two months now. Usually I just have attacks that ease off. Have cut out caffeine, carbonated drinks, fats, for the last week my diet has been dry toast for breakfast, a bowl of plain gluten free cooked pasta with a little grated parmesan stuff. Dinner chicken or fish with vegetables. It is finally settling down. GP suggested a colonoscopy so am looking into that. Pretty sure with me it is food combined with acid reflux/gerd. I wish I could give up eating altogether sometimes.

TroysMammy · 11/02/2019 19:33

I used to have diarrhoea each morning before work as I was a secretary to a very unpleasant woman. As soon as I changed branches I didn't have the problem.

I also have diarrhoea before going away if my DP is driving. I'm fine by train. I must have a nervous stomach.

WombatStewForTea · 11/02/2019 19:33

I have IBD - Crohn's disease.
My symptoms are similar in that it's mornings I struggle the most. I can go to the toilet 6-8 times before I leave for work.
Have you got any other symptoms? I get really bad fatigue, stomach pains and mouth ulcers a plenty

honeylane · 11/02/2019 19:36

Is it after breakfast/coffee or before? I always get this after my first meal of the day

Many tests (including stool samples which I had the pleasure of doing three times because they kept doing the wrong test) later and concluded that it's just IBS.

Dr explained to me that Imodium is extremely non toxic so I take this whenever I need too.

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 11/02/2019 21:45

Thanks for all the replies. I don't feel particularly tired but I do have a mouth ulcer at the mo that I have had for weeks.
I never drink coffee as I really dislike it.

It's interesting that others only have it in the morning too as that's what seems bizarre to me.

What is your normal diet Brie, any foods that you avoid?

justasking111 · 15/02/2019 14:49

Have an appointment with a consultant on 26th February, wish me luck.

Aprilshowersarecomingsoon · 15/02/2019 14:54

No help but I remember my dm writing me a note for school and just putting that I had the runs as she couldn't spell it either!

Raera · 15/02/2019 15:54

Sugar free mints had that effect on me

Asta19 · 15/02/2019 16:14

On a thread like this a little while ago, someone mentioned Diverticulitis. I am going to see my doc about this as I have had IBS for years but this past few months has just been terrible. Luckily I work from home but for example this morning I needed the loo while on the phone to my boss! (Had to hold it in as best I could!). Then again when someone came to look at my roof! It's beyond ridiculous now. Sometimes I'll get back from the loo and realise I need to go again! Apparently Diverticulitis can be cleared up with a simple course of antibiotics. I know doctors are reluctant to prescribe them so I plan on begging! As far as I'm concerned it's worth a shot, if they don't work ok but if they do it would be life changing for me.

Utini · 15/02/2019 16:21

HowDidYouDo I've not heard that one before, I was taught Depart In A Rush Running Hard Or Else Accident!

RamblinRosie · 18/02/2019 02:47

Don’t want to be a scaremonger, but a friend had this... within a week she was operated on for bowel cancer (all looking good now, but looked scary for a while. At one point she was told she had a 50% chance of surviving 5 years).

Don’t wait a month, demand an emergency appointment! This is not minor and it could be fatal, the difference could be days.

Sweepingcalamity · 18/02/2019 02:58

Do you drink or eat any products with artificial sugars in op? Things like fruit juices, "slimmers" fizzy drinks, fruit sweets or those sort of products? They can have that effect in some people.
