Diahhrea (or however you spell it) every day - bit grim

I have diaorrhea (that looks more like it) every morning. It's been going on a for a long time ( a year plus) but lately it's been getting worse.

TMI, no doubt, but this morning I'd gone for several shits before 8am, including the last one which I had to sprint the last quarter of mile to work in mild panic to take. Then I'm fine for the rest of the day.

I've got a doc's appointment as I have finally decided it's time to see what's going on but it's not for a month or so.

Has anyone else had this and am I dying?

Interested to see what doc says. I have similar urgent need to go more or less as soon as I get up and then need another trip before leaving the house. I think it's stress related, and also panic that I might have an accident before getting to work. Never have done!

If it hasn’t always been usual for you (you say it’s been happening about a year, but not how things were before that), getting checked out if definitely the right thing. A change in bowel movement habits was the first sign of bowel cancer in my father. Fortunately he went to his doctor and it was caught early.

Dd was like this. Was coeliac and lactose intolerance.

You definitely need to push to have this investigated. I have ulcerative colitis which started off presenting in a similar way.

BigGreenOlives · 18/02/2019 07:59

I have dormant ulcerative colitis, when mine was active I went to the loo between 20 and 30 times a day.

Sounds exactly like my irritable bowel syndrome. It makes my life a misery especially if I stay away from home. I have to get to the loo immediately or else I will soil myself.
I have had this for 30 years now.

Same here OP. I will go 4 or 5 times before I leave for work. At least 2 times a month I'll have to turn back to go again.

It's IBS for me and stress is one of the things that sets me off. So stressing that I need to leave by a particular time and that I'll have half an hour sat in motorway traffic really doesn't help me.

Go see your GP to rule out anything sinister though.

WombatStewForTea · 18/02/2019 12:48

For all those saying they've got IBS, make sure you don't get fobbed off by your GP as IBS unless they've absolutely ruled out every thing else. Calprotectin tests are a cheap and easy stool sample that identifies inflammation- the difference between IBS and IBD. Even with a raised calprotectin, they couldn't find my Crohn's with colonoscopies, mri or ct scans. I was eventually diagnosed by a pill camera.
I'm lucky I have a great gastroenterologist. Even he says he sees people who have had a 'dicky tummy' or IBS for 20 years and it turns out they have IBD. Which can be treated!

costacoffeecup · 18/02/2019 12:52

Well this happened to me and lasted about a year, had tests and colonoscopy but nothing found. Then it just went away! So may not be anything sinister.

babysharkah · 18/02/2019 12:57

IBS D - the 'morning evacuation' is a classic sign, but go to the doc to get checked. I have it, it's awful.

notapizzaeater · 18/02/2019 13:00

Keep a food diary as it's one of the first things I was asked for - saved a lot of time. (Ours was coeliac)

lettymoo · 18/02/2019 13:14

Op - I sympathise massively because I have the same symptoms. I did have extensive tests, which you must ask for as everyone is different, but they concluded it was IBS(D). Different things seem to aggravate different people but those prone to that sort of IBS rather than constipation often have trouble with dairy products and a lot of fibre. I really have to watch my fibre consumption, a lot of veg and I'm really having a problem. I find the same with things like potato skins too. The other very common cause is stress. For me it was much worse when I was still with my STBXH and during the early stages of divorce but it has settled down a lot since in comparison

Wineinateacupnosaucer · 18/02/2019 18:37

I think that it’s far too common for GPs to go down the IBS route. After a few months of tests I was diagnosed with BAM and colitis -that only flares with stress though. BAM is also pretty common with a Gall Bladder, My Gaestro is really good luckily, he believes 60% of those diagnosed with IBS actually have BAM.
