I feel like this thread was created for me! Except there's SO many song mentioned on here which I adore, and also so many i loathe.
I have a personal hatred for those "end of the school disco" songs - The Power of Love (Jennifer Rush), anything by Celine Dionne et al
But the worst offenders for me are songs you hate by groups you love. So I LOVE the Bat Out of Hell album, but want to tear my eyeballs out to I Would Do Anything For Love.
Moondance/Brown Eyed Girl - I adore Van Morrison. Have I Told You Lately - I'd happily hit him with an ice pick.
Soft rock in general.
Anything smultzy, particularly involving choirs in the 1970s
Oh, and I hate "I will survive". I like the message, it just gets right on my tits. And I hate the way girls cling together to sing it.
To pick up on a couple of posts:
Move closer by Phylis nelson - yup, that's up there coppercolouredtop
I will always love you by Whitney Houston. As Céline, but even worse. Yes, (again, as above) but the Dolly Parton original is lovely, Jsmith99
However:
I just called to say I love you by Stevie Wonder. Stevie is a bone-fide musical genius whose 70s albums are timeless masterpieces. It is a small tragedy that this ghastly twee abomination of a song is the work for which he is best known in the Uk
I know! Superstitious! What an awesome track!
nutellalove you posted this: Patience, take that PLEASE tell me this isn't a cover of the Guns N Roses track? I can not bear to google. Patience is one of the best songs ever. By them!
