TC to UC my payments are going to be 1/4 What they were

I've just been forced to move from TC to UC. What a shambles. I now won't get any payments til mid March and the estimate is 1/4 What they were. It's dds birthday next week and we had to cancel her party.

What I don't understand is apparently they make you attend appointments at the job centre ... but I work full time so how am I supposed to do that? I work 9-5 an hour away from my home town there's no way I could make appointments.

If you are working full time you won’t need to attend appointments. Why is your UC so much lower?

mayaknew · 08/02/2019 00:20

No idea. Only thing I can think of is TC worked out over year as a whole maybe UC different my earnings higher than they were at beginning of tax year? I don't know i have no clue about benefits etc I've only ever claimed TC.

I'm totally gutted we literally have no money for the rest of the month. Our wages pay the bills and we live on TC week by week.

I read that they make you look for better paid work but that's just not an option for us I'm not experienced enough in my field to be promoted and dh is a student and working part time. Would they expect us to be looking for work ?

I haven't slept since the change happened I'm so anxious. They keep emailing me asking me for information and they emailed me to say that I must make commitments or something but how often would I need to check in I would forget. TC would just be paid in and wouldn't even need yo think about it.

How old are your children? If under 12 you need to earn NMW x 55.5 hours between you ( irrelevant who earns what). If youngest child 13 plus then nmw x 74 between you.

MyDcAreMarvel · 08/02/2019 00:24

If you earn at least the above neither of you will have commitments. Less and you will need to show you are lookingvto earn more. It’s a horrible situation am sorry.

mayaknew · 08/02/2019 00:25

One is over 13 two are under. We probably do earn that I think but not over the year as a whole but now we probably do now that I work full time

OP posts:
mayaknew · 08/02/2019 00:25

Worked out over the year it won't be as high as that

OP posts:
mayaknew · 08/02/2019 00:28

I worked it out that we are probably on the cusp were depending on how many shifts dh works we will either be just over or just under. He is a student and works part time

It’s £22,932 gross you need to earn between you how far off are you?

mayaknew · 08/02/2019 00:30

TC used to take into consideration pension contributions and membership fees to professional bodies but UC haven't asked me anything about that do they not take those into account ?

OP posts:
mayaknew · 08/02/2019 00:31

We alway just overestimated earnings with TC then never thought about it but UC is so complicated I really do th get it.

OP posts:
MyDcAreMarvel · 08/02/2019 00:31

Problem is it’s done monthly not averaged so £1911 a month for months that you earn that you will be fine .

MyDcAreMarvel · 08/02/2019 00:32

I think they take pensions into account but not hundred percent .

mayaknew · 08/02/2019 00:34

But our payments are still crap. We really relied on them for DH to be able to work part time so he can go to college

OP posts:
MyDcAreMarvel · 08/02/2019 00:36

Yeah UC hates students, going to bed hope you can sleep not stay up worrying.

mayaknew · 08/02/2019 00:38

The amount we got weekly on TC is what we get monthly on UC. It's shit. Especially since it's supposed to help people into work and that's the reason we are using it ... so th can get a better job !

Why did you get moved to UC?

chickhonhoneybabe · 08/02/2019 08:57

Check to see if you can get the advance payment, you can do it on your online account.

Just bear in mind if you do take an advance they deduct a monthly amount but it does show you when you apply how much it will be roughly.

Contraceptionismyfriend · 08/02/2019 09:13

What is your partner studying? Does he have much longe on his degree?

chickhonhoneybabe · 08/02/2019 09:43

Also, If your DH is at uni or college try their hardship fund if you’re struggling financially.

mayaknew · 08/02/2019 15:04

They won't gice me an advanced payment because the claim is still being reviewed.

He is studying teaching he has 2.5 years left he's just half way through first year

OP posts:
Contraceptionismyfriend · 08/02/2019 16:38

Ah still a way to go then Sad

chickhonhoneybabe · 08/02/2019 17:19

Get your DH to apply for the hardship fund.

We had to. Well my husband did, he took half a day and I'm on maternity leave. They literally just looked at our ID, it took about 30 seconds
