I've just been forced to move from TC to UC. What a shambles. I now won't get any payments til mid March and the estimate is 1/4 What they were. It's dds birthday next week and we had to cancel her party.

What I don't understand is apparently they make you attend appointments at the job centre ... but I work full time so how am I supposed to do that? I work 9-5 an hour away from my home town there's no way I could make appointments.

So both of us don't have to attend only on of us do? That's doable dh would be able to work something out. May need to take dd2 though this may sound like a daft question but do they mind?

Op, you need to attend the first appointment at the jc, this is the one where you show all your Id. Once you have done this you should be able to apply for an advance the same day.
Future appointments will depend on your monthly income. If your earnings are over the required amount, then you won't be given any more appointments. Or maybe once every six months or so.
I work and receive uc and don't attend the jc.

Just seen your question regarding taking children to appointment op, and that's fine to take them.
The id appointment was literally 10 mins.

Have they not said anything about transitional protection?

It's really hard to calculate exactly what your payments are going to be until you've had your first month or so. Usually the first payment is higher than what you will usually get, but the second should be normal. They use your take home pay as a guide for what your payments will be so pension deductions are taken into account.

Sorry, I was unclear, we both had to go, my husband took a morning off work. We took DS but he was only 6 weeks old at the time so wasn't willing to leave him with anyone else
