Anyone's cat been missing more than a couple of days and come home?

IHeartKingThistle · 07/02/2019 17:37

Cat last seen on Tuesday morning. We're doing all the usual things to find him but no luck so far. I just want him home. He's chipped and everything.

Anyone got any reassuring stories for me?

Four of our cat herd will vanish for up to 6 weeks in baby rabbit season every year (We live as rurally as it's possible to get). They stroll home as round as barrels and full of fleas and ticks once the hunting starts to get harder.

A local friends cat vanished for a year, then just walked in one day. Again flea and tick ridden, a bit thin but otherwise just fine.

One of my 3 disappeared for 9 months once. I eventually spotted her in the next street along and she followed me home but wouldn’t come in the house, hung around for a couple of weeks then disappeared again for another few months. She’s back again now but only comes in the house when the weather is terrible. She’s always been very ‘aloof.’

yes mine went off for 4 days and I was frantic. I kept ongoing to the end of the garden and calling and calling and going to all the neighbours to the side and behind me (we live in terraced streets and lots of overgrown gardens behind us) and they let me go through their houses and call in their gardens. I gave out flyers. I'd nearly given up hope when one day I was calling and he appeared very poorly, I took him to the vet and he had an overnight stay and got him rehydrated, poor old guy.

I hope you find him soon

IHeartKingThistle · 09/02/2019 23:27

Still nothing. I've put up posters, spammed FB and knocked on all the neighbours' doors but absolutely nothing. I did find out that they all know him very well, bless him, but they haven't seen him either. So sad and so worried.

Sorry to hear that, but don't lose hope. It's the most horrible, worrying time but cats are known for this kind of thing (the little feckers!). This thread proves it!

Hope he shows up soon x

Herbyvor · 09/02/2019 23:35

I feel so sorry for you, it’s the worst feeling not knowing. To add to the stories, my neighbour lost hers for eight months, he sauntered back in just before Christmas. I really hope you hear soon.

boatyardblues · 09/02/2019 23:49

We had one cat return after 6 months - she’d been living under a shed and the household thought they were feeding a fox. Another after 4 months - a student house thought he was a stray and had been feeding him.

punishmepunisher · 10/02/2019 20:20

No sign OP?

Ronsters · 10/02/2019 20:57

A neighbours cat was missing about 5 days, she turned up in a neighbour's shed, as had got trapped. Hope your cat turns up safe.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 10/02/2019 21:56

7 days with my last one - she was stuck in a neighbour's garage (and the people around said they'd gone on holiday!!) Ended up angle grinding the lock off to get to her, which was pretty awkward when they turned up, not being on holiday at all ... happily they were fine about it, and of course I bought a new lock, wine and flowers for them

IHeartKingThistle · 10/02/2019 22:05

Nothing yet but thank you so much for all the stories.

@Puzzledandpissedoff how did you know she was in there? Did you hear her?

OP posts:
Puzzledandpissedoff · 10/02/2019 22:21

@IHeartKingThistle My DH (at the time) went out late at night calling her name and heard an answering miaow from the garage over the back from us

Point is we'd already been round all those houses, leafleting and asking them to check outbuildings, and it seems these particular homeowners hadn't bothered. So even if you've done the same I'd try what he did, just in case

ShortandSweet96 · 10/02/2019 22:24

To cut a long miracle story short.
Out cat had kittens.
We kept a kitten
Gave my auntie a kitten who lives a couple miles away.
Our kitten went missing for a week.
Auntie called us to say she was calling her cat in for dinner when our missing kitten wandered into her house like nothing.
We went down and sure enough he was there just chilling on the sofa 😂 weirdest thing, but it can happen.

IHeartKingThistle · 10/02/2019 22:31

Amazing.

Many years ago my father and step mother moved into a new house and about 2 weeks after they turned up a cat arrived on their doorstep obviously very tired cold and hungry and determined to come in. It had a collar with a number on it so they phoned... turned out to belong to the people who'd prevoiusly owned the house and had moved about 150 miles away. They lost the cat the first day they arrived and had given it up for dead :(

Turned out this absolutely amazing cat had decided to go "home" and his poor owners ahd to come and collect it!!

IHeartKingThistle · 03/03/2019 17:52

He's not back. Have had loads of phone calls and sightings, but none of them were him.

Our pet rats died a couple of weeks before the cat went missing. So now there are no animals in the house and I'm genuinely surprised at how miserable it's making me. The house doesn't feel right Sad

pickletickled · 03/03/2019 18:56

Ahh OP I hope he comes back.
My late wandering fluffy bastard friend once was missing for 10 days. I thought he wouldn't come back.
Turns out, unknown to me, he'd regularly been cheating visiting a house around the corner for months. The lady there bought him some prawns and tuna one day as a treat, so the little shit decided to stay for a while.

We only found out because she followed him 'home' one day and knocked on my door. She had genuinely thought he'd been a homeless cat or abandoned as he spent so much time at hers.

Bloodybridget · 03/03/2019 18:58

God yes, many years ago our cat disappeared for months! Never expected to see her again, but one day a very small, thin tabby turned up. I didn't even recognise her at first.

SukisKettle · 03/03/2019 19:02

A cat of mine buggered off for a fortnight. I put posters up but to no avail. The bastard appeared around 8pm the night before we were going on holiday and leaving at 4am. Luckily my lovely parents came over and took her back to their house for the week we were away. My dad did say how horrific the smell from her litter tray was though. God knows what she'd been eating.

myexisanasshole · 04/03/2019 08:11

Yes! 11 days! He escaped the day after I moved to a new house then came wondering back over the fence 11 days later, not even looking that skinny! X

BearSoFair · 04/03/2019 08:29

One of ours disappeared for a week then strolled back through the door looking and acting as if she'd been gone for 10 minutes! Keeping my fingers crossed for you OP, I remember how awful it felt when we didn't know where she'd gone.

Pavlova31 · 04/03/2019 08:53

A friends cat came in the cat flap and just curled up by the fire as usual ... after being missing for two years !

DinaCaliente · 04/03/2019 10:04

Mine went missing for 9 months!

Got a call from the vets after pretty much having given up all hope that someone had brought him in.
He was skinny and a bit smelly but recovered well.

Thank goodness for microchips.

HappydaysArehere · 04/03/2019 10:06

My friends cat went missing. He was being indulged by a local cat lover. He returned when she asked her if she had seen him.
