Anyone's cat been missing more than a couple of days and come home?

IHeartKingThistle · 07/02/2019 17:37

Cat last seen on Tuesday morning. We're doing all the usual things to find him but no luck so far. I just want him home. He's chipped and everything.

Anyone got any reassuring stories for me?

Yep. We have owned four cats and two of them used to regularly disappear for a few days at a time. Once one went for 5-6 weeks and then reappeared!

I know one that went missing for, wait for it, 8 years 😱. He literally just turned up at the house one day.

He was slightly more flighty & matted but was huge so no idea where he had been. He didn’t stray away again after that and lived to a good age.

One of mine went missing for 3 days, she must have been in a shed or similar as was starving & very thirsty.

CharlieAlphaTango went missing for several weeks and came back. He was half-starved when he came back and only made it as far as a neighbour's garden. He was back to his normal weight after about a month.
Contact local vets with details and a good photo, get on the local facebook lost and found pets pages.

Mine disappeared a few days before Christmas (a few years ago) and turned up 17 days later, a lot skinnier but basically ok. I was worried sick and after about 10 days I had given up hope. I was utterly devastated. It was the most amazing surprise that Sunday morning when I heard her meowing and scratching at the door. We think she was shut in somewhere over the Christmas/New Year holidays.

Put up posters, ring all the local vets and ask the neighbours to check their sheds.

I know it's a horrible feeling but there's every possibility this will have a good ending x

My old ginge went walkabout for SIX weeks and turned up unscathed.

spiderlight · 07/02/2019 20:35

Yep - mine vanished on a Friday, came back in a raging temper the following Tuesday, and we eventually discovered that she'd spent the Bank Holiday weekend locked in the local bakery and frightened the life out of them when they went to open up :)

BollocksToBrexit · 07/02/2019 20:37

My cat went missing last year for 12 weeks. I couldn't believe it when she crawled in through the cat flap looking like an extra from The Walking Dead.

Aprilshowersarecomingsoon · 07/02/2019 20:38

2 different dcat.
First one for 6 months. Found her sat under a tree at the local shops.
Dcat 2 went for 10 days one October, came home with a back leg snapped clean. Vet said us shouting every night had kept his spirits up enough to make it home.

ProbablyMyMillionthNameChange · 07/02/2019 20:39

Yes went missing for 6 months before being handed in to a rescue and reunited with us via his microchip

Mewe · 07/02/2019 20:40

My boy went missing for 3 weeks in the summer when we moved home. I put up missing posters and lots of people had told me he had been run over/ run off.
He came back to us safely and was around 100m from our house in the alley across the road. Never give up hope and good luck. Cats are naughty buggers!

DareDevil223 · 07/02/2019 20:42

My beloved floofer went missing for over two weeks a few years ago. I was frantic, posters, tramping the streets day and night - the works. Nothing. I had lost hope.

One morning I opened the door and he ran in, thin, hungry, bedraggled but very much alive. I danced around the kitchen in delight. I assume that he got shut in somewhere.

To my relief he is now an indoor cat of his own volition so no more worries. I hope your boy comes back, it's so distressing.

Our cat went missing on the early May bank holiday last summer. We delivered flyers and put her details on local Facebook pages.

She came back on the Saturday. Those 5 days were very long - would love to know what she was up to.

IntestinalFlorist · 07/02/2019 20:48

One of my cats has gone missing twice for extended periods - once for 3 weeks, and then another time for 4 weeks. Both times I was sure she was gone forever. But she just turned up back in the garden eventually looking thin and a bit crazy. She hissed and was skittish for a week or so and then settled back in.

DorothyZbornak · 07/02/2019 20:48

Yes, my friend's cat missing for over a week. After about 3 days she put up posters in her locality. The cat returned home after about a week having put on a bit of weight. He was kindly brought home by an Indian gentleman who's takeaway he had spent the previous week residing in!

WatchingFromTheWings · 07/02/2019 20:49

Mine was missing for 7 weeks from mid December. Suddenly turned up in the driveway last week! Someone's been feeding her as she's been well looked after!

3.5 years - must have found a new owner as he came back fatter!

Kleptronic · 07/02/2019 20:56

Mine went for almost 3 months after we moved, I'd kept her in for a month and this was her second move. I shouted for her day and night, leafletted (had lots of people ring me saying they'd seen her dead), rang the council, vets, etc. etc.

Then some lovely people rang me, she'd been skinny at their dead relative's back door (they were clearing the house) a mile away from me towards our old home (of course, I'd looked for her at the old house too) and they let her in and checked her tag on her collar (she's chipped but it didn't have to get that far).

I was so grateful, I'd given her up for dead. She's still here now god love her, one eye and half a tail and all.

Yes. Went missing several days before Christmas a few years ago. Had spied the cat carrier and knew he’d be going somewhere. We waited and searched and had to cancel all our plans. Came back Christmas Eve so they were all on again.

Yes, a cat adopted us years ago. We fed it and regarded it as ours, although it kept irregular hours with us! A few months after it moved in it disappeared. We then had a poster through the door from the 'owners' (oops) saying it was missing and had we seen it. We rang them to say we thought it was ours but would let them know if it turned up. They rang us two weeks later to say that a third set of owners, round the corner, had put it in a cattery whilst they were on holiday.

My cat has done it a couple of times. Normally back after 3 days. And always comes back dirty and hungry

birdseatworms · 07/02/2019 23:44

Our indoor cat was let outside when we went on holiday. The cat sitter looked high and low, knocked on doors, put up flyers but couldn't find him. I was so upset the whole time we were away. When we got home, I was outside calling, calling, calling him and my heart leaped when I saw my boy running through the fields towards the house! He was gone 9 days and none the worse for it. After that, we started letting them outside and they always came back - usually with a mouse! Murphy lived to be 17. He was the best cat ever! I hope yours comes home soon. x

Nothappy16 · 07/02/2019 23:46

Yes! Cat went missing for 3 days! All the usual was done posters out walking calling for her. No return really upsetting. 3am in the morning heard birds disturbed and it was her returning to the garden fit and well!! Good luck.
