Is this a SCAM I've just had a text message about?

I've googled and it's a real insurance company. Dh is with our car at work, he says no accident today.

Is this a SCAM I've just had a text message about?

Likely if there's no accident. Ignore and see what happens.

Bigonesmallone3 · 06/02/2019 17:38

If your not with LV
Have had no accident
Then it's not legitimate
Ignore it, don't reply will probably cost a fortune

iknowimcoming · 06/02/2019 17:41

Could just be wrong phone number?

AwdBovril · 06/02/2019 17:42

That number does come up as LV. Probably it's a mistake in the system somewhere- if you've checked with your DH I'd just ignore it. Someone somewhere has got mixed up.

redyawn · 06/02/2019 17:44

I've had scam texts purporting to be from O2 and seeming to come from a real number of theirs. I phoned their customer services to check.

BringOnTheScience · 06/02/2019 17:48

Separately look up a customer service number for LV and ring them. Someone could have made an innocent error, or deliberately given incorrect info. LV will sort it.

WildFlower2019 · 06/02/2019 17:52

You could always ring LV (google their number don't click on the one in the text) and ask to be clear.

WhatNow40 · 06/02/2019 18:11

If an accident has taken place, it is always your own insurer that arranges repairs and hire car, regardless of whose fault it was. This is definitely a scam.

Starlight90 · 06/02/2019 18:13

You need to call them to tell them, obvs not on the number in the link. Tell them yiuve got a ref number too. They need to know

LaurieFairyCake · 06/02/2019 18:14

Yeah, definitely not calling them. Thanks 👍🏻

Id look up the number online if its a real company and contact them incase someone is using your details

MostlyBoastly · 06/02/2019 18:17

Why can’t a company as successful as this one use apostrophes? I’m not sure it’s legit.

TheDropBear · 06/02/2019 18:24

This isn't true, most large insurers try to offer services directly to the third party if their client has admitted fault. It's done because it saves them money.
This one could either be a fishing text or some kind on error on LVs part when taking a number down but it is something that's done

longwayoff · 06/02/2019 19:13

Had one of these by phone the other day sympathising with my recent accident. "Oh, you mean the accident in which I cut my own arm off and bled to death on the floor?" Errrr ok, I'll just take your details off our list shall I? Good idea.

Drogosnextwife · 06/02/2019 19:16

Probably, I got one from the Halifax yesterday. I'm not with the Halifax!

I also got an email from PayPal saying something about my payment an having been set up, before my rational brain kicked in I clicked on the link and sure enough someone took money out my bank. Lesson Learnt, from now on I will ignore everything!

Santaclarita · 06/02/2019 19:17

Don't message back, call the number or click the link. Just delete it, it's a scam and possibly phishing or a virus.

MyGuideJools · 06/02/2019 19:22

click on 'from' then 'view contact' you can see who sent the txt. I keep getting genuine looking emails saying I havnt paid my tv licence but the contact is something like "[email protected]"

Angie169 · 06/02/2019 19:37

I had a email apparently from BT just before Christmas saying there had been problem with my DD payment and I should ring the number on the email , if I didn't my phone and broadband services may be cut off. It was quite pushy and demanding.
So I rang BT ( from a works phone ) they said the scam had cost 100s of people £1000s .
Soo glad I didn't call it.

Furrycushion · 06/02/2019 19:41

If you Google the number in that text it is an LV one & the website address seems to be correct. Maybe a mistake? I would find another LV number (just in case) & call them to let them know.

caughtinanet · 06/02/2019 19:45

Probably a mix up with the phone number, easy to get a digit wrong

chordFire · 06/02/2019 19:56

You can forward spam texts to 7726 to report it.

DeathyMcDeathStarFace · 06/02/2019 20:24

Might be worth contacting LV on another number to make sure you aren't in the system as having an accident. Someone might have had one and got the registration incorrect on the other car, someone might have cloned your registration plate (if so let the police know), could be another reason, could be a scam. But it might be worth checking out, just not using the info on the text.

MrMeSeeks · 06/02/2019 21:52

What’s that number? Who does it report too?
I signed my family up on which? Which has stopped all nuisance calls and txts, shame i can’t have one for email Grin

Never click links or ring the actual num, have a look online to see if it’s genuine.

Dothehappydance · 06/02/2019 23:12

In regards to the email address is there a possibility that behind it is a non genuine address, a bit like on here where you can hyperlink but have the address showing as something else?
