Anyone good with interiors? Does this look okay in DD's room?

DD has begged me to buy her some polka dot wall stickers for her room. They are spread evenly from ceiling to wall in my younger DD's room and match her decor nicely. I didn't like the idea of them in DD1's room because her theme is more floral but I've bought them anyway and stuck them up since she wants them so much.

Does it look silly? Do you think I need to ditch her current throw/cushions/fairy lights and maybe get her a grey/silver soft throw & some new cushions. Also really unsure what to put on the wall at the head of her bed so would be grateful for any advice on that also? We are in army married quarters so painting is out of the question for now and I also don't like to spend much incase we move.

Thanks.

I was thinking about something like this at the head of her bed? But with silver foil? It's one of her favourite songs.

It's fine

HilaryBriss · 06/02/2019 12:45

Why do you need anything on the wall at the head of her bed? It looks fine as it is.

If your DD is happy with how it looks, why on earth does it matter?

TinklyLittleLaugh · 06/02/2019 12:50

I think it looks really nice; you've done a great job. Don't get too caught up in everything being match matchy; let it just evolve with stuff she likes.

Sweeet · 06/02/2019 12:53

Thanks all... I appreciate that. I just never feel like I manage to finish a room off quite right. It doesn't really come naturally to me.

What do you mean by "why on earth does it matter?" I was just looking for some advice on finishing off my daughters bedroom. Is there something wrong with that? Hmm what a strange response.

I think they look really lovely!

RomanyRoots · 06/02/2019 13:13

It looks really nice and I can understand why you want to do your best when you can't paint.
I would imagine it's important to make it as homely as possible when in Army quarters. Thanks

PIFilm · 06/02/2019 13:14

Very pretty 😊

steppemum · 06/02/2019 13:15

It looks lovely.

Does she have a notice board in her room anywhere? If not you could get a large notice board, like a picture to hang on the wall for above her bed. I personally would then paint the board to match the room (or white, or pink) as they tend to be brown which doesn't look very nice.

Then she can put up her own pictures, things she has done, or postcards/ birthday cards, pictures from magazines, or souvenir bits and bobs on large pins. It is a great way for her to display her own stuff, she can change it as she likes. She can also take it with her when/if you move

It looks great. I know what you mean OP. I’m not good at finishing touches either, and would love to just give one of my stylish friends cash and ask them to do up a room, but think that’d look strange...

froufroufoxes · 06/02/2019 13:24

It's very tidy! Can you come and have a word with my daughter Grin

nickname7890 · 06/02/2019 13:27

What a lucky girl! Looks lovely Smile

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 06/02/2019 13:30

I would be tempted to colour wash the wall in a gradient, but definitely not pink, and if you are handy with the silver foil, do something with the little bedside chest of drawers.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 06/02/2019 13:32

Oh sorry, just saw the panting restrictions.

Could you do a big boulder cushion? you can use an old duvet for it?

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 06/02/2019 13:36

Last one, I promise.
Add some paper decorations - something like honeycomb paper decorations or garland made from crepe paper tassels?

cupofteaandcake · 06/02/2019 13:37

OK I'm going against the grain here. I like the dots howeve they don't match anything else. They are silver and modern and the rest of the room is quite traditional. I do love the patchwork duvet but the whole room doesn't go together in my view.

To try and blend it more I would add some circles and some silver/bling. Perhaps a round mirror above the bed and some round cushions. Do you have a rug?

cupofteaandcake · 06/02/2019 13:38

Yes to those big round tissue decorations, very easy to make, lots of videos youtube.

Sweeet · 06/02/2019 13:45

Where would I put the large round paper things? They would be great and cheap which is a bonus 👍🏻

Look up command adhesive strips, hooks and so on. Easy to use and remove when you need.

Sweeet · 06/02/2019 13:58

Here's the rest of the back wall... just to give the bigger picture Smile

It looks lovely, you've done a great job. We bought some (cheap) pink frames from IKEA and our DD drew some pictures which we then framed and put up, she loves them and is very proud her pictures are on the wall.
