In fairness to Rachel Dolezal I think she grew up with black brothers and sisters and genuinely identified with them as her family. Actually changing race is far less ludicrous than thinking you can change sex. Race really is just a social construct and we all came out of Africa if you go back far enough.

I believe she had a white family who adopted/fostered a couple of black boys. Shit, my DB must identify as a woman as he was the only boy in a family of all girls.

I don’t think it’s a stretch at all that if someone “feels” black then they are black.

I remember when the whole Rachel thing blew up. I had a photo of her on my screen and a black colleague wandered by, took a look and said ‘who’s the white woman?’. I said ‘oh she’s black, so she says’. Colleague 🙄 ‘nah she’s white. Not even mixed race’.

And this was a photo that Rachel was using herself.

I worked with someone who went for a scholarship in the states for ‘African students’. She was white African but was told she couldn’t be African because the was white.

There's a lot of it about Obviously less outrage because its a bloke & its more fun to get angry at women.

I caught her on this morning with her partner. The things they were saying! 😲 they had to be cut short because the partner started wittering about black Americans not understanding their own African culture like they do, carrying water ect ect

still seems an odd thing to say, rather than just 'who's that woman?' If she didn't know who it was. My friend is white, ginger hair, her husband is black. One of their daughters has Afro hair, slightly ginger and quite pale skin. She's a real beauty. Would your colleague say 'who's the white kid?' Because she's 'obviously white.' She's definitely mixed race. Unless your colleague knew the 'Rachel' story and was making her point of course, if she applied this to my friends daughter, she'd be very wrong.

Well why the hell not. People identify as the other sex, people identify as animals, hell some people identify as chairs! Why is trans race bad out of everything.
