If you have a solitaire engagement ring....

Does it hook and get caught on things?

I have been looking at rings and like the solitaire style, but i also worry that those I have seen, the prongs seem quite high and i think they may not be very practical for doing day to day things.

So, if you don't mind (pictures are also very welcomed Grin ) could you share you experiences and any advice.

Mine is a square rub over style as I didn’t want a claw setting.

I’ve never caught mine on anything, but I did once scratch DS when he was a baby.

It’s a princess cut, compass set. About 0.5 carot. White gold.

Here's mine, no idea what the setting is called, but the diamond sits in a v shape, doesn't protrude too much. I never take it off and I don't recall catching it on things (in over 12 years).

I have a 6 prong Tiffany setting it sits quite high. Doesn't catch but I did damage a prong sometime drunk on a night out 🤪

Oh and wearing tight leather gloves can be a pain.
Also scratched the kids so don't wear it day to day.

I have a four prong solitaire. Doesn't catch as such but it can get in the way. Wearing gloves, lifting baby out of car seat and such.

I have three diamonds not a solitaire and they're in a rub over setting so no problem. Bezel setting would also work.

Such beautiful rings.

Bluntness is that a diamond in your grandmothers ring?

Northern Wow, your ring is beautiful. Do you wear it all the time?

The type I had in mind is similar to Flamingo's.

I was married previously and had a ring with the stones set in so catching and snagging wasn't an issue and I did not ever take it off. It was a wider set ring as I have very long slim fingers. Another thing i am overthinking, as to whether it may look a bit lost.

I am quite heavy with my hands, my work involves a lot of use with my hands, so practical has to be up there as I don't want to be having to take it off really.

Loving all the pictures.

Hi, yes, it's one carat.

She picked the stone and they had it set. It's also engraved with their engagement date on the inside. Which I think is lovely. It's odd to think it's over eighty years old.

Mine's not an engagement ring but ,y grandmother left me some money in her will so I had a ring made with her birthstone. I was worried about snagging so got a flush setting, I've worn it non stop for 20 years.

The stone in mine is oval rather than round in this pic.

Yes. It’s a pear shape so pointy. I can’t wear for work so hardly wear my rings.

TrickyD · 05/02/2019 08:57

2.5 carat, but not really an engagement ring, inherited from my mum. Student fiancé could not have afforded anything back in 1971.

Yes. First marriage, I had a classic solitaire that drove me nuts. It caught on everything and even scratched my face. I stopped wearing it.

Second marriage, a diamond with tiny emeralds set around it. No scratches, no getting caught on anything and it is much more comfortable.

Not sure how and why that is, possibley the second ring is a little bigger and has smoother claws but I’m not sure. Really hated the first ring though!

it possible to set the center settings with low profile ( at zero line with the ring shank or the accent diamonds ) like this in the picture below , with low center setting you make sure that you can use it for doing day to day things.
