Baby wakes on a pram walk

Notthisoneagain · 03/02/2019 18:52

I always thought that a little walk sends babies to sleep but mines the opposite, a pram walk wakes him up and I have to keep stopping to pick him up and comfort him before we can carry on.

He's only 2 weeks old but I had a c section so walking is my only option of getting about until I can drive again.

Any tips to keep him happy so I can get to the shops?

I never managed it, sorry OP. Mine hated the bassinet thing but she's OK now she's a bit older and has a proper seat. Could you babywear?

Hunkyd0ry · 03/02/2019 18:55

Mine didn’t like it until she was older and sat up. I used to wear a sling.

Apparently intergra carriers are good for post c-section as the straps are higher.

Thesearmsofmine · 03/02/2019 18:56

Nope, I have tree and none of them every really slept in the Oran or pushchair. I used a sling which they slept in.

Pram!

I had three c sections and used the close caboo sling in the early days.

greenelephantscarf · 03/02/2019 18:58

are they too cold?

Takemetovegas · 03/02/2019 18:59

Is he properly flat? Like in a bassinet? He might not like that as some of the terrain will put him "upside down" maybe switch to a pusher so he can have an incline.

nomorespaghetti · 03/02/2019 19:00

I never managed it with my DD, but DS does sleep in the pram. Some babies just aren't a fan! Does he have a dummy? Could you put pram toys above him for him to look at? He's so little it might all change in a few weeks and he might start to love it.

anotherdaygoesby · 03/02/2019 19:01

I put a fluffy blanket in the bassinet that they lay on and we're wrapped up in. I had a winter baby and it's all about the warmth.

Harryo · 03/02/2019 19:01

Are they warm enough?

Notthisoneagain · 03/02/2019 19:05

I put him in a fluffy pramsuit so I think he's warm enough but might try a big fluffy blanket underneath to cushion him a bit more.
He always sleeps in the car seat so maybe an incline might help too.

They also say all babies love the car.. DD bloody hates it! She's 6 months now and it only just getting to the point where she'll entertain being in there without screaming - if I play nursery rhymes on repeat Envy

Purplepjs · 03/02/2019 19:06

My first hated the pram but he tolerated the car seat used on the buggy (travel system)...not ideal but needs must. We’re doing the same with our new little one too; car seat much more snuggly I think. Once he could sit up and face out he was happy in the buggy. Until then we just muddled through. Congratulations on your new arrival...Flowers

My now 5 month old hated the pram so she was in a sling until around 3.5 months when I started using the pushchair. Close caboo was good when she was tiny and we then moved to the ergo baby as I needed the back support. Pushing a pram post section is actually quite hard on the core.

SuddenlyISee · 03/02/2019 19:10

@Purplepjs my DS is the same. Hates the bassinet but is quite happy in the car seat on the travel system. I also have one of those blankets that is fully wrap around so I know he's nice and warm. I try to alternate between that and baby carrier although I do find that hard going!

kaytee87 · 03/02/2019 19:23

I’d also wonder if he’s warm enough. Depending where you are in the country (eg it’s been -5 here at midday recently), then I’d put on a; vest, socks, onesie, pramsuit, blanket & hat. Layer up blankets depending on temperature.

Kintan · 03/02/2019 19:26

My boy hated the pram too, so we had him in an Ergobaby sling for the first 6 months (I had a c-section too and I think it was around 3 weeks later that a sling was a possibility).

LIZS · 03/02/2019 19:28

It may be worth putting a rain cover over to act as a windbreak.

TheBabyAteMyBrain · 03/02/2019 19:32

Sorry to say ds1 hated the pram, and the car seat and well anything that wasn't a sling. He was too nosey and just wanted to see everything.

Troels · 03/02/2019 19:47

I thought mine were the weird babies that didn't like to lie flat in the pram. They hated it.
But slept like logs in the car seat on the wheel base thing and in a stroller with the back up a bit.. One loved a sling the other screamed in that. Babies are so funny, keep trying different things till you find one that works.

SleepingStandingUp · 03/02/2019 20:21

Depending on how far you going, can you put baby in the car seat bit of your pram? Mine always seemed to prefer that and was great once they could see what was going on about them

Notthisoneagain · 03/02/2019 20:27

My pram chassis won't fit my car seat :(

OP posts:
ReaganSomerset · 03/02/2019 22:22

Just be careful not to overdress him. Cold babies cry, hot babies die and all that. An overheated baby will sleep but that's not a good thing!

Also, babies shouldn't be in car seats for longer than half an hour until about three months at least, and that rule still applies if the seat is on a pram.

SarahAndQuack · 04/02/2019 00:01

My pram chassis won't fit my car seat

Confused That's an odd way to put it. What do you mean. If you don't have a travel system where the car seat is designed to fit on the base of a pram, fine ... but I don't get why you'd be trying to make the pram chassis fit the car seat otherwise?

I think you're just expecting too much too soon, otherwise. There's no rule for what a 2 week old does because it's still getting used to the world. You might not get a clear sense for many more weeks or months. Just play it by ear and don't stress yourself out with worrying about what 'should' happen.

halfwitpicker · 04/02/2019 00:07

So it's not a 3 in 1 pram, the car seat doesn't stick onto the pram?

Dunno what to suggest. Maybe he's cold. Can he see out OK? Maybe wait a week or two, he might like it then.

Fraula · 04/02/2019 00:10

Hungry? Mine would all be too hungry, too often for shopping at that age. Also... don't walk too much or you'll slow down your recovery (I've had 3 csections and have learned from experience not to overdo it before 6 weeks).
