I have just finished Hearts Invisible Furies and I feel befert. I haven't felt like this at the end of a book for ages. I need something to dive back into and have a waterstones voucher to spend.

Human Croquet by Kate Atkinson but it seems not a recent book so you may have already read it.

fleshmarketclose · 02/02/2019 19:24

I'm reading "Need you Dead" by Peter James it's book twelve or so of a series and would say the later ones are better than the early books.

Smoothyloopy · 02/02/2019 19:27

Rivers of London by Ben Aaronovitch

Ivegotthree · 02/02/2019 19:28

Do Not Say We Have Nothing by Madeleine someone. Just started it this morning. Seems quite interesting.

runningtogetskinny · 02/02/2019 19:30

I've also just finished The Heart's Invisible Furies and am reading one of Peter James at the moment, I've read a lot of his books but Invisible Furies is a hard one to match! I also enjoyed Little Fires Everywhere and He Said/She Said

IWouldLikeToKnow · 02/02/2019 19:38

Anything you read after that will be a disappointment! Definitely in the running for my favourite book

Moominfan · 02/02/2019 19:47

I’ve just finished Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine and also felt bereft. Watching for recommendations of what to read next.

Waffles80 · 02/02/2019 19:56

I feel like I tell everyone to read “Heart’s Invisible Furies”; likewise I feel bereft (despite finishing it ageeeees ago).

Home Fires? Older, but like HIF, Any Human Heart (Boyd).

LuvMyBoyz · 02/02/2019 20:26

The Last Tudor by Philippa Gregory. Way better than I thought it would be. It’s about Lady Jane Grey, Queen for 9 days, and her sister’s Katharine and Mary. Mary was a dwarf.

lastqueenofscotland · 02/02/2019 20:28

I think if you liked hearts invisible furies you’ll like a little life.

I’m reading conversations with friends which has mixed reviews but I am enjoying it

Uncooperativefingers · 02/02/2019 21:28

"Little" by Edward Carey, it's a fictionalised biography of Madame Tussaud (based on an autobiography/notes she wrote about her life) I'm not that far in but it seems really well written with some lovely illustrations. I read a lot and i'm enjoying it more than anything else I've read in a while.

I think if you liked hearts invisible furies you’ll like a little life that's good to know, I loved A Little Life.

The Silence of the Girls by Pat Barker - it's brilliant, as her books generally are. I didn't love her recent art school novels, though, so for me this is a total return to form.

hippoherostandinghere · 02/02/2019 21:44

The heart's invisible furies is definitely in my top 5 of all time. I recommend it a lot now.
I'm currently reading cutting for stone.

Op The Kite Runner and a Thousand splendid sounds are up there with The hearts invisible furies too.

hippoherostandinghere · 02/02/2019 21:44

A thousand splendid suns. Not sounds 🤦‍♀️

Lamentations · 02/02/2019 21:47

A Little Life is incredible. I felt like it did something to me.

I'm reading The Fish Ladder by Katharine Norbury. Very good.
