I have just finished Hearts Invisible Furies and I feel befert. I haven't felt like this at the end of a book for ages. I need something to dive back into and have a waterstones voucher to spend.

I loved a thousand splendid suns, very emotive though. Went on to read kite runner and concluded that I'll stick to more light hearted stuff this year.

I've got silence of the girls on my reserve list from library. Waiting to get my hands on it :) just finished Circe which I loved. I never get bored of Greek mythology

The Beauty Myth by Naomi Wolf.

Depressing because the book was published in 1991 and many of the issues discussed are still alive and kicking in 2019.

Women are screwed.

Tin Man was my favourite book of last year.

Checkmate by Dorothy Dunnett. It is the last book in the Lymond Chronicles series. The whole series has had me engrossed for several months and I'm in a strange place where I am trying to read slowly because I'm reluctant to finish, but, also, can't really put it down at this stage.

Just finished The Queen of Bloody Everything and loved it!

If Cats Disappeared from the World.

Lincoln In The Bardo by George Saunders. It is mind-blowing, and the best thing I've read in years.

The Hound of the Baskervilles - seemed a good cosy mystery for this cold weather. It's brilliant.

RamsayBoltonsConscience · 03/02/2019 09:52

I've just started The Silence of the Girls. I loved Circe and The Song of Achilles. Just finished Brooklyn.

NigelGresley · 03/02/2019 10:00

I just finished The Hearts Invisible Furies yesterday too!

I’ve got a long wish list to get through and my aim this year was to alternate classics and new novels, so my next read was going to be Rebecca.
However I’m not sure how I’ll get on because it’s one of those books I feel like read.

RedHatsDoNotSuitMe · 03/02/2019 10:52

The Hearts Invisible Furies sounds like a must read.

I'm not going to say my current book, because I'm not enjoying it. But can recommend The Power; The Earth Hums In B Flat, The Time Traveller's Wife, The Ten O'clock Horses, Eleanor Oliphant and The Rosie Project - all superb books

And JiltedJohnsJulie (best username on MN, btw) - Human Croquet by Kate Atkinson is fabulous. Is that the one with the line "all cats are grey in the dark, darling". One of my favourite lines of all time in literature!

Death of a nurse by M.C.Beaton, School at the Chalet by Elinor Brent-Dyer and a book about glass fusing. I often have a variety of books on the go depending on my mood.

Thirtyrock39 · 03/02/2019 12:35

Tin man is brilliant- I'm still surprised it's not a book everyone is talking about
It starts off quite gently but has such brilliant characters and is a bit like Elinor oliphabt in that it's telling a sad story but in a really warm feel good way

misspopsicle · 03/02/2019 12:44

I adored The Hearts Invisible Furies. I'm currently reading The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton which I'm addicted to!

isseywithcats · 03/02/2019 13:47
