Treating acne/spots at 40?

Sazquatch · 01/02/2019 20:08

I’ve recently started getting a lot of spots on my chin. I’ve read that at my age (40) this is likely due to hormones and/or stress. Has anyone any experience of going on birth control pills to cure this? That was suggested as the best way to treat it. I know I’m being vain, but I hate it and feel so self-conscious.

Thanks.

No one else then? Just me with the embarrassing face? Confused

I've been using acnecide cream. You can buy it over the counter in big chemists
I got it in the big boots near us. It's been great for me.

Yasmin (the more modern version of Dianette) worked somewhat for me

But far better is spirolactanone - it's an androgen blocker, and works miracles on my hormonal acne. Literally within hours of taking it my face starts to clear up (even those big, painful buggers that don't want to come to a head). I choose not to take it every day, because it can have a diuretic effect and I get occasional breast pain, but I take it as soon as I feel things starting to erupt, so I now only have one bad face day a month rather than a week (or more)

Thank you both. I’m going to order the acnecide cream and see how that goes, then go to the GP if that doesn’t work. I’ve never heard of spirolactanone before, I’ve had a quick google and read up on it and it seems like a better alternative that hormonal contraception. Flowers
