When I was about 7, I used to collect all the empty mugs and any empty wrappings from the tables, after 1/2 time at a local football club, and the lady who ran the canteen used to give me a bag of toffee treats [still]

Crystalblue13 · 01/02/2019 16:41

A factory and I hated about 98% of my time there.

HelmutFrontbut · 01/02/2019 16:55

I did a paper round at about 12/13. I used to go out at 7am on my bike in the pitch black in the ice and snow delivering fucking newspapers Shock for 7 quid a week. It was a lot of money in those days (80's) and I saved up enough to buy my horse Grin

I cursed the twats though who wanted both the Telegraph and Times on a Sunday Angry

RhinestoneCowgirl · 01/02/2019 16:59

Well I used to do babysitting and ironing as a teen, but first 'proper' job was at 19. I'd just dropped out of uni and got a job as an office junior in a small PR department. Spent a lot of time photocopying and faxing press releases to local press.

roundtable · 01/02/2019 17:03

Fish and chip shop at 13. I did 4 hours on a Saturday and made £10.

I loved it. Made me feel very grown up
I stank after a shift though.

I've never stopped working since except for maternity leave.

DiaryofWimpyMumm · 01/02/2019 17:10

In an Estate Agents I was Office Junior until I walked out 6 months later

brizzledrizzle · 01/02/2019 17:12

NicoleNoPants · 01/02/2019 17:18

Waitressing at 14 and then Tesco at 16. Used to clear £700 a month at Tesco and had no rent or phone contract. All went on clothes!

SleepingBooty · 01/02/2019 17:20

Paper round at 13 and kennel maid at 15. Hated both.

RhubarbaraWindsor · 01/02/2019 17:22

Kennel maid (aged 14) at a kennels that bred Afghan hounds - you can imagine the amount of grooming necessary! Then, aged 15, egg cleaner and grader at my best friend's family poultry farm.

EastMidsGPs · 01/02/2019 17:23

Delivered milk at weekends aged 15 - 18
Waitressing from 16

Sforsh49 · 01/02/2019 17:27

My Grandad was a Rag and Bone Man (think real life Steptoe but with a van rather than a horse by the time I was old enough to go out with him) and I would go to the local jumble sales with him from around the age of 10 and collect up the unsold clothes. He used to pay me 50p a jumble and buy me a can of fizzy pop. I LOVED being in that big van with him singing along to Queen on the radio!!

TakenForSlanted · 01/02/2019 17:30

Ice cream stall attendant.

It was all reasonably good fun until a bunch of skinheads took exception to me selling ice cream to an Asian customer. Walked out sobbing mid-shift after being physically threatened and never returned.
