Waitress in a cafe during the summer holidays from age 13. Ran a gift shop kiosk on a pier from age 16.

Babysitting not included, I was employed at a charity shop sorting and distribution centre. All the donations were sent in and then sorted by us, then processed and sent out to the various shops.
I'm not sure what was worse... Discovering what disgusting things people used to donate, being bullied by the power hungry manager or being sexually harassed by the delivery driver.
I lasted five weeks.

Saturday job at 14 in Select, my sister was the manager and when I first started she was horrible to me, I'm assuming to show the other members of staff there wasn't any favouritism (but she went too much the other way!)

I walked out one afternoon crying because of her and when I got home my mam phoned my sister at the shop and gave her a right telling off 😂 I went back and worked there for a year or so. Got £15 cash for a full day and used to spend it at the end of every shift on a bit of clothing!

A website at 17. Pay was amazing; the hours were not.

Greenglassteacup · 01/02/2019 17:51

Saturday job in a small gallery, age 15 / 16.

Proper official job with pay? I grew up in the Soviet Union, so when I was 7 years old, I was working on local kolkhoz fields in the summer. I decided straight away agriculture was not my passion. Grin
It paid relatively well though, I remember I bought a bike after the first summer.

Baby sitting from about 13 years old

First Saturday job, I was 16 and worked in WH Smiths on the card counter. It was before decimalisation and tills that added up totals, so it was a lot of mental arithmetic.

zen1 · 01/02/2019 17:54

I had an after school job as a school cleaner.

mytime2 · 01/02/2019 17:56

McDonalds at 16

stevearno · 01/02/2019 18:01

I am a geezer - so mine was warehousing .... I was paid £3 per hour

And typically being a young male I took my pay ,gave my MUM some and then blew the rest over the weekend chasing girls in pubs and clubs ( the laws of attraction manifesting into 1990's life )

Did I enjoy it? NO..,..I was dreaming of the weekend the whole time ( youth sigh )

Stressedout80 · 01/02/2019 18:04

CatnissEverdene · 01/02/2019 18:04

I had a part time evening job in Woolworths stacking the sweet shelves when I was in the 6th form, and my first proper job was doing admin in an undertakers. That was a big eye opener aged 17!!

LotsOfHappySmiles · 01/02/2019 18:08

From 16-18 I had a Saturday job in Woolworths on the pick and mix counter Smile.

icannotremember · 01/02/2019 18:08

Waitressing in a pub restaurant at 14, £1.80 an hour and we didn't even get free soft drinks.

3boysandabump · 01/02/2019 18:39

@icannotremember I was the same age and got half a lager when the pub closed

DareDevil223 · 01/02/2019 18:55

At the book and toy shop that my mum managed. I worked there on Saturdays to start with and then in the holidays when I was at uni. Great bunch of people, good laugh and working for my lovely mum was great Smile

3boys sometimes after the Saturday night shift my dad would meet me in the bar and some of his friends would buy me cider, have it poured in a glass and say "here's your appletize" with a wink. Appletize would probably have cost more... also I don't know how to spell it haha.
